Now I ask you, how can this impure doctrine compare with the love of God, of which the Lord Christ is consistently speaking, to which all of His teaching refers, and upon which He founded His Church? God is love, and he that abideth in love abideth in God, and God in him,26 says the Holy Scripture, and does not that Calvinist teaching stand in contradiction to the clear voice of the word of God? God maketh His sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and raineth upon the just and the unjust27 — so how could God, the Father of love, find pleasure in the godless, and in the spreading of godlessness, being Himself the wellspring of love, and all that is good? Is it not that the God of Calvinist teaching is a spirit unclean, who derives delight from the prospering and multiplication of the godless
