We have shown how all of those Western ideas are worth nothing to that nation, and can merely lead it to the edge of the abyss. Why then should we introduce such ruin into our own lives? Why must we be the enemies of Russia, tossing away our one opportunity to flourish? We have learned much from the West, truly much. But we cannot begin with something that is near its own end; we must build, rather, on that which has become great and mighty. As far as the state is concerned, the West can teach us a strict subordination to the state’s interests through a removal of arbitrariness and unfounded individual claims, without surrendering ourselves.
