Prologue
Prologue  Unknown POV  I peaked out from behind the crate we were hiding behind to make sure no one would see. I looked down at the sleeping angel in my lap and scooped her up against my chest and adjusted my backpack, getting ready to run. The train was slowing down and I knew that I was running out of time. I crouched crept toward the door away from the platform of people. I waited until the train stopped before opening the door and squeezed me and the young toddler through the door booking it in the night air toward the woods.  The sleeping angel in my arms started to shift and wake up, baby blue eyes looking up at me.  “Piggyback ride” I told her and she nodded as I put her down. I quickly took my backpack off and placed it so it was against my chest. I crouched and motioned to the toddler, she ran and jumped landing on my back. I stood up and made sure she was secure, she had her arms around my neck and her feet were around my stomach, I went over to a nearby tree and knew I was near a pack boarder. I climbed the tree going up around 15ft and started moving through the trees. After a few hours of running I found a small secluded inlet of a lake and climbed down the trees. I crouched so the toddler could run to the water and got the soap out of my bag. Both the toddler and I stripped down to our underwear and got in the water washing the last 3 days of running off our skin. I brushed the toddlers gold curly locks and got them pulled up into a ponytail  before brushing my own hair, braiding it and repining it against my hair. We quickly got  dressed and I found a good sized tree and got both of us into it. I reached into my bag and pulled out the last little bit of veggies that I stole from a garden before the train, we split the veggies and each had a bottle of water. I snuggled down with a blanket and after making sure we were safe fell asleep.  “Get up girl, its 9 am and breakfast isn’t going to cook itself” a sharp pain and a harsh voice filled my ears. I opened my eyes and caught the foot as it came towards my stomach a second time. The guy let out a menacing growl and I released the foot. “ you have 5 minutes to be upstairs making breakfast or there is more where that came from.” The guy stormed out and headed to the bathroom. I winced and stood up, walking over to the crib where my angel was babbling.  “Good morning sweetheart” I whispered lifting her up and into my arms. She giggled and kissed my cheek. I loved her so much, two year old Olivia was the whole reason I stayed fighting and breathing. I set her on the floor and threw on clothes and braided my hand before bringing her upstairs. I sat her in her high chair and got her some juice in a sippy cup before starting the eggs and sausage.  “ About time you started, I was wondering where your lazy ass was, I was about to come down and kill you myself” The annoying bitchy voice filled my ears, I turned my back and rolled my eyes, continuing to make breakfast.  “ I want easy eggs and two sausage” she continued, I looked over and nodded, keeping my eyes down. “ you better not break the yolks this time, I mean it. Girl, do you hear me?” her nagging voice was getting more and more raised. She spun me around and grabbed my spatula before slapping my cheek, I winced as a second slap hit my face harder, whipping my head to the side.  “ Mama, Mama” the toddler screamed and started crying.  The woman stopped and looked at her with disgust.  “Shut her up before I do it for you” she demanded, “ and remember, 2 eggs over easy with two sausage for each of us. You know what will happen if you don’t” She stormed out of the room glaring at the crying toddler “ and shut that toddler up”. I cupped my cheek waiting for the pain to dull and went over to the high chair.  “ Shhh, baby it's okay, it's okay. Look I’m okay, Liv don’t cry” I whispered cradling her and bringing her over to the stove. She laid her head on my shoulder and I started to hum as I continued to make two perfect plates. I placed her back in her high chair and prepared the tray, placing coffee, the plates and toast on it and heading up the stairs. I knocked once and placed the plate on the ground in front of the door and went back the kitchen to make Olivia and I breakfast.
