Chapter 13: Unfamiliar passage

The expression on the face of Beta Gilbert changed instantly when he heard what his friend said.

"Jackson, please come clear... What exactly is going on?" With much concern and curiosity, he asked.

Alpha Jackson explained all that happened earlier and how the unknown caller threatened him with his last statement.

"You know I can not let anything happen to my family, my wife and daughter are everything to me... What do you suggest I do Gilbert?" Alpha Jackson asked as he looked his friend straight in the eyes.

Beta Gilbert was very calm, as he first did not say a word.

Alpha Jackson was becoming impatient, as he looked at Beta Gilbert to question him again and when he was about to say something. Beta Gilbert finally started talking.

"I have been quiet because I was thinking all through; who could this person be and why will you step down from being the Alpha be of use to the person!" Beta Gilbert said as he was still in a confused state of mind.

They both were still not sure on who to put an accusing finger to, so they were both calm.

"I believe the situation of Maria is only known by both of us and her mother. I don't think any of us will be stupid enough to let out this kind of information to anyone... So I will make a call around and send my men to start up an investigation over this new development. Meanwhile, please start looking up for possible means from your side!" These were the plans and instructions from Beta Gilbert, as the both of them stood up and Alpha Jackson departed from Gilbert's office.

*Away from the flashback*

Beta Gilbert was still in his office, as he sat down sipping the wine in his wine glass.

'I have been on this case for a very long time, I must get to the end as soon as possible!' Beta Gilbert thought to himself, with a frown on his face.

Immediately I got home from college, I quickly made my way straight into the house, to check if there was anyone at home.

After I did my thorough searching and I was very sure that no one was at home; I started to work on my plans.

I went straight to Bernard's room to start checking for the documents and as I was checking, I had to make sure I didn't scatter things or leave any traces behind.

After I searched all possible places in his room and I could not find anything related to the documents that I was looking for, I decided that the place likely for the documents to be will surely be at Beta Gilbert's room.

I quickly closed the door of Bernard's room, as I swiftly ran out and walked towards Beta Gilbert's room.

While I was walking towards the room, I had my doubts if the door was going to be opened, but to my surprise, when I got there... The door was wide open widely.

I paused for a while, to be sure if someone was in the room, as I knocked on the door severally just to be sure, no one was inside.

I walKed into the room and I started searching all over.

While I was searching, I saw nothing and when I was about to leave, I decided to check the wardrobe and I was left with the shock of my life when I was another door locked behind the wardrobe.

I was still thinking to myself, what the door was meant for and how could I possibly access it, without breaking down the door or leaving any traces behind.

I was still in the middle of all these when I heard footsteps approaching Beta Gilbert's room and I listened and also confirmed he was the one, as he was on the phone talking to someone.

At that moment, I was filled with confusion and I was very nervous.

My palms started sweating and my forehead began to get hurt, just in a split second.

My handbag was on the floor very close to the bed and not far from me, but immediately I heard his voice and footsteps... I quickly ran to hide between clothes that were on the hangers.

There were a lot of clothes, so they were enough to cover me.

My prayer was now that he won't see my handbag that was on the floor or come to the wardrobe to pick anything.

I was watching him, as he walked in and started wondering why his door was opened and in about a minute he walked around to check his room and suddenly when he was about to turn towards where my handbag was, his phone started ringing.

Immediately he picked up the call, he walked straight to the bathroom to take a pee and before anything could happen again, I removed my shoes from my legs, picked my handbag gently, and ran away quickly from his room.

I quickly made my way straight to my room and closed the door gently, as I threw myself to the mattress.

"That was a close one, Maria!" I said to myself, as I was still breathing heavily.

It was then, I had time to think about what I saw in Beta Gilbert's room.

'Why will he have another room inside his room?' I questioned myself deep down in my thoughts.

'I believe the documents that I am in search of will be in that room... I need to do anything and everything for my freedom!' I was still in my thoughts, as I looked determined and desperate.

I was pleased that I have found a secret in the house and I was determined to know what exactly will be in that room, but getting into the room next time will surely be a tough task to go through. But I know that I don't have any other option; than to find a way to get my hands on all that I need for my freedom.

*The next morning*

The next morning, I was prepared for college, and as usual... I got into the vehicle hoping to meet Bernard there, as he usually gets into the vehicle before me.

But I was surprised not to find him in the car, so I asked the driver and he told me that the young master as he usually calls him, won't be going to the college with us today.

"Did he give you any reason for that?" I question the driver further, with a stern look into his eyes.

But he replied was no by shaking his head and he put on the ignition of the car.

And as he was about to start driving, I asked him to wait.

I could not take it this time, I have to know what's going on, as I jumped out of the vehicle and walked back into the house.

It was to my biggest surprise when I got to Bernard's room and it was locked.

I knocked several times, but no one was there to open the door or even answer me.

As I was about to turn back, I saw Bernard's mom standing behind me and I was in a deep shock immediately my eyes met up with hers…
