Chapter 2- Kim Freaks Out

644 Words
**Kim's Thoughts:** As I glance in the mirror, the royal vampire necklace around my neck catches the light, shimmering ominously. This isn’t just any piece of jewelry; it’s an ancient relic said to choose the next queen of the vampires, and somehow, I’ve found myself entangled in this otherworldly destiny. To make matters even more complicated, I am the mate of Prince Matthew, a vampire whose reputation precedes him in the supernatural community. This whole situation is driving me up the wall. Why is all this happening to me? I never asked for any of this; I’m just a regular bounty hunter, navigating life one day at a time. All I want is to find love the old-fashioned way—non-supernaturally, without the complications that seem to follow me like a shadow. The weight of my secret sits heavily on my shoulders. If any of the other bounty hunters—who are used to dealing with mundane human targets—find out about my connection to the vampire world, I am finished. It’s an unspoken rule in our line of work: vulnerabilities can be exploited, and I can’t risk anyone learning this about me. Not even my closest friends, who’d simply see me as a target, not as their comrade. I feel suffocated by frustration. I crave a normal life, free from the supernatural headaches that have become my reality. It’s overwhelming, and I often wonder: why did my parents have to target a royal family with such power and prestige? They could have chosen a less dangerous path, one that wouldn’t ensnare me in this complicated web of royal duties and vampire politics. Now, I find myself entangled in the consequences of their reckless decisions. Prince Matthew is undeniably attractive, with his striking features and commanding presence, and while a part of me wouldn’t mind exploring a relationship with him, I can't ignore the fear that looms over my heart: the fear of getting hurt and the fear of romantic entanglements that go beyond the physical. I wish I weren’t still a virgin, that I had experienced love, heartbreak, and everything in between. All I desire is someone who will love me for who I truly am, not for some destiny imposed upon me. In addition to wrestling with my feelings, I now face the daunting task of unearthing my parents' pasts as mercenaries. They’ve left me with so many questions: Why on earth would they attack a royal family? What were the promises whispered in the shadows that led them down such a treacherous path? All these secrets were kept from me, and I can't help but feel like I’m the one paying the price for their mistakes. It boggles my mind why anyone would think attacking a royal family was a good idea. Some days, I just want to curl up in bed under a heavy blanket and let the world fade away. Or perhaps I should build a time machine and go back, pleading with my parents to reconsider their choices before it all spiraled out of control. Right now, I know I need to calm my racing mind and find distractions before I sink deeper into this rabbit hole of anxiety. Competing with other girls for Matthew's attention should be the least of my worries, yet he lurks in my thoughts, an unwelcome reminder of what could never be—at least, not without a mountain of complications. Everything in my life feels jumbled and chaotic, and I desperately long to be true to myself amid this turmoil. Why can’t my existence be simpler? My life is a whirlwind of supernatural responsibilities and emotional turmoil, and believe me, it’s far from amusing. I catch myself pondering: why does he have to be the Prince of the Vampires and not just some regular human prince? Life just seems absurdly unfair.
