Ten Years Later
Hi, I'm Kimberly Ann Jones, aka Kim, and I am now 21 years old. I am headed back to my apartment after getting back from a very tiring job that took forever to complete. Just so you know, I am a bounty hunter who has a cover job as an executive assistant at HiRise Empowerment Company. The owner I never heard of, but the CEO is someone I wouldn't dare mess with.
Getting to my apartment is a nightmare at night. I enter my building, and nothing is out of the ordinary, so it's safe for me to go up to my floor and go home. What do I see when I enter my apartment? A vampire and not just any vampire, Prince Matthew himself has graced me with his undead presence.
"Why are you here?" I asked tiredly.
"To collect some stolen jewelry from you," he said.
"I don't have any stolen jewelry, let alone anything belonging to the royal family," I told him.
"Yes, you do it's around your neck," he said.
"What are you talking about? This necklace is all I have left after my family was massacred by vampires." I said.
He was beginning to look agitated with what I said.
"That necklace belonged to my mother. But it seems that I won't be able to take it back without you," he says.
"Why?" I asked.
He looks at me like I have lost my mind.
'What is going on? Why is he looking at me like that?' I think to myself.
"How do you not know what that necklace symbolizes?" he asks.
Now it's my turn to get upset and a little irritated. "I don't know, I wasn't given a history lesson on where this necklace originated, nor did I ask what it meant," I say irritably.
The most amusing thing happens after I tell him why. His facepalmed like facepalmed. "Why am I not surprised? Disappointed yes, but not surprised," he says exasperated.
Now I'm just annoyed at this point cause he is not making any sense. "Just tell me what it means!" I yell.
"Since the necklace didn't reject you, it means that you are my mate and future queen of the vampires," he says calmly.
Ok, now I'm freaking out because there has never been a Jones mated to a vampire in over a century, let alone a royal one at that. "Are you sure?" I ask him freaking out.
"Yes," he says, not liking my freaked-out expression.
You can guess what happened next that even my bounty-hunting skills couldn't prevent, yep, I fainted.
Thirty Minutes Later
I woke up on my bed. Matthew was nowhere in sight. I contemplated everything he told me. In one part of my mind, I find everything he told me ridiculous, and on the other part, I find that he's telling the truth. I'm mated to a vampire who seems to know who I am before I even introduce myself. If that's not disturbing, then I don't know what is. You know what? I'm n just gonna sleep on it and probably do one of two things. I forgot about it or just plain old, accept my fate. In reality, I don't want to be anything but myself as I am today without adding another weakness to everything going on in the bounty hunter community. This is going to hurt. I am going to sleep. This is hurting my brain, and I kind of need my brain for my actual job tomorrow, so it's time to sleep.
No One's POV
I finally found the Prince's new bride. Now, to hurt him as he hurt me all those years ago. Just not right now, maybe further into their relationship as it grows. Maybe then he'll know what it's like to watch the woman you love die right in front of you. Better yet, I'm going to have to wait until they have the next in line for the throne. And do the same thing to them. For years, the royal family has taken away what is mine, so now I will take what is theirs. Too bad the queen died before I could get to her, but the king is sad, and that is all that matters. Now it's the prince's turn to know the pain of losing his mate.
