Someone’s after Ryan’s Pack

1137 Words
Ryan stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of his luxurious penthouse, gazing out at the sprawling cityscape below. He had always found solace in the mesmerizing view, a moment of tranquility before the storm of his several responsibilities consumed him. In his hand, he held a crystal glass, swirling the amber liquid inside, the aroma of fine whiskey wafting through the air. As the fiery liquid caressed his lips, he savored the taste, savoring the brief respite it offered. Ryan's mind was consumed by thoughts of his human mate. The recent events with his pack only heightened his longing to have her by his side. Lost in his thoughts, Ryan contemplated the recent threats to his pack. The dead werewolves found at the borders had stirred a restless energy within him, igniting his determination to protect his kind. Just as the shadows began to lengthen in the room, the door swung open, breaking Ryan's thoughts. Stark, his trusted beta entered, his presence commanding attention. "Alpha," Stark greeted respectfully, his voice carrying a tone of unwavering loyalty as he bowed his head to greet his Alpha. Ryan turned to face him, a spark of relief in his eyes at the sight of his trusted companion. "Stark," he acknowledged, a hint of a smile playing at the corner of his lips. "You're right on time." "Yes Alpha” Stark reached into his pocket to bring out something “this is the sample of cocaine that we found near the bodies at the border." Ryan reached out and took the small vial from Stark's outstretched hand. Ryan carefully examined it, studying the color, texture, and smell. He was no stranger to cocaine, having been around several business associates who found indulging in it delightful. However, this particular sample had a distinct scent that differed from what he was familiar with. As Ryan caught a whiff of the cocaine's aroma, a realization struck him. It was different, and he couldn't ignore the possibility that it could be a lead. He locked eyes with Stark and made a decision. "Stark, I want you to dig deeper into the drug market. Find out who's selling this particular cocaine. It could be a clue to the threat our pack is facing," he commanded, his voice firm but tinged with concern. Stark nodded, "Yes, Alpha. I will do everything in my power to gather the information you need," he replied.. "Good," Ryan replied, his gaze fixed on the vial in his hand. "We need to put an end to these attacks on our pack. Lives are at stake, I can’t bare to see our members dying everyday” Ryan’s eyes now carried hurt as he talked, his voice full of sorrow. “I can’t help but think this is my fault, maybe we should’ve remained together as a pack in our world instead of coming out to mingle with humans.” “No” Stark interrupted, “you can’t say that Alpha, you came out for the benefit of the pack, you came to find your mate and that is extremely essential. Without a mate your bloodline will be cut short and the pack will be integrated into another pack.” Ryan sighed, he knew Stark was right but he couldn’t help but feel guilty. Perhaps if it weren’t for him those werewolves wouldn’t be dead. “I guess you’re right stark” Ryan said in frustration. "In the meantime, we need to be prepared for any more attacks. If another dead werewolf is found at the border, I want the body brought to me immediately. We'll run a full autopsy to gather any possible evidence," he ordered, his tone leaving no room for doubt. Stark nodded once again, his expression serious and determined. "Understood, Alpha. I will make the necessary arrangements to retrieve any body immediately." Ryan leaned back in his chair, his mind focused on the safety of their pack. "Additionally, I want you to tighten security measures across all locations where our pack members reside. We can't risk any more attacks. Heighten patrols, increase surveillance, and reinforce our defenses. Our pack must remain protected." Stark's eyes gleamed with loyalty. "Consider it done, Alpha. I will personally oversee that all these security measures are put in place." "Also," Ryan continued, his voice softer now, carrying a mixture of vulnerability, "there's something else I need to tell you. I've found my mate, Stark." Stark's eyes widened with excitement, a broad smile forming on his face. "Alpha, that's great news! Congratulations!" His voice resonated with genuine happiness for his Alpha's discovery. Ryan nodded appreciatively, a whirlwind of emotions swirling within him, he knew Stark would be excited to hear about his mate. "Thank you, Stark." Stark leaned forward, his curiosity piqued, "Where did you meet her, Alpha? How was the connection?" Ryan's gaze drifted to the picture of woman’s naked back, a hint of longing in his eyes. "It was in my office, three days ago. There was something about her, Stark. The way she carried herself, her courage, and the fire in her eyes. It was like a magnetic pull, a connection I couldn't ignore." "I have no doubt, Alpha. The bond between mates is powerful and unexplainable." Ryan sighed, "The problem, however, is how to approach her. She has refused to go on a date with me." Stark's expression softened, his loyalty unwavering. "Oh, maybe because she just met you. She’s human so I’m sure she’s not feeling the way you’re feeling.” Ryan let out a frustrated sigh. "She’s definitely not feeling the mate bond since she’s human.” Ryan sighed again. “I've found my mate, but I have no idea if she wants me" His hands rubbed his forehead as the thought of not having her crossed his mind. "Don't be sad, Alpha," Stark reassured. "I'm sure with time everything would change, I can track her favorite spots for you so you could meet up with her.” Ryan paused for a while, considering Stark's offer. "That’s good, I’d like that. Also, I need your help. I need you to investigate this case” he said and handed over an envelope to Stark. “A case of embezzlement?” Stark asked as he read the contents of the documents. “Isn’t this one of those companies you’ve invested in?” “Yes it is and the suspect is my mate, I need to know if she was the one who did it. Can’t afford to bring a disloyal person into the pack, all information you need is inside the document, all I need you to find out is who did it.” "I understand, Alpha," Stark nodded. "I'll do so and report back to you." A broad smile spread across Ryan's face. "Thanks, Stark," he said, playfully punching his beta's back.
