Sebastian Point of View
“Is it really necessary?
I figured you needed me around. I'm here now; let's head back home.” I pulled Sophie's arm.
I avoided her interrogation, knowing that I wasn't available for her needs.
I saw her numerous phone calls but chose not to respond because I was having a good time with Rene at the club. If she wasn't involved in a terrible car accident, I wouldn't have met Sophie.
Setting eyes on Sophie alone has ruined my day. I just pray she doesn't get to discover Rene.
“Never, I won't leave this hospital until you tell me why you're here.
The last time I remember, you weren't taking up my calls, which made it difficult to know where I was,” Sophie asked me as though she were a police officer.
She didn't give me a chance to breathe or decipher my answers before unleashing more questions at me.
She held me hostage in a dilemma that seemed hard for me to pull out of.
My heart was racing faster, like in the car racing sport. My legs shivered in terror.
I needed the tiles to open and engulf me. It would be preferable rather than allow Sophie to see me with Rene.
I was fortunate enough to avert her wrath during her birthday party. I may not be fortunate again this time.
“I'm still rooting for your answer. Why are you not responding? Have you suddenly damaged your eardrums?” She asked me in a harsh tone.
Sophie was spewing more than I expected, and it's beginning to affect my head.
In other cases, I would have clapped back, but the thought of Rene showing up from nowhere stole my strength. I could only imagine the thought of peace right now.
“Can we not talk about this right now? We don't have to do this. What you require at this moment is sleep,” I advised Sophie while I scanned my eyes to all corners, wishing that Rene wasn't coming my way.
“Don't you understand it?
I'm not going home. Why do I have a belief that you came here with your lover?” attacked me.
Not even her health could stop her from guessing right. “My lover?” I scoffed.
The laughter was born out of fear. I had to act like I was brave. Deep down, I was burning in the garment of confusion.
I showed no sign of weakness to stop her from getting too suspicious.
“See me at the garage when you're done causing a scene. I can't stand you right now,” I motioned outside just to avoid her web of chaos.
She was slowly approaching the truth. I can't tell how long I plan to avoid her rage. It's just a matter of time before I start confessing to things I didn't do.
Sophie trailed me immediately.
Just when I thought fleeing would salvage my case, she pulled me backwards and started yelling.
For once in my life, I could not recognize my wife anymore. I witnessed a wild version of Sophie I hadn't seen before.
“You're making a fool of yourself, and it's not even making sense. I won't be held accountable should anything nasty happen to you. You have got to call yourself,” I advised Sophie.
She was becoming too uncontrollable for me. For someone who just got discharged from the hospital, I don't expect her to be this strong.
What I can't fathom is Katie's negligence. She wasn't trying to stop the drama. She stayed there like a statue, seeing us fight like inmates.
She certainly loves the drama.
I won't be shocked if she goes to grab a bowl of chicken to flex and chill.
“Katie, say something.
Don't stay there doing nothing like a log of wood,” I yelled at Katie to make her swing into action.
She's the only one who can caution Sophie. She listens to Katie more than she does to me, her sweet, loving husband.
“Take my name out of your issue. How do you expect me to get involved?
This is a family case. I don't want to be part of it,” Katie flared at me and glanced sideways like it's nothing.
I was humbled and disgraced by Katie's behavior towards me.
I had the urge to hit her until she passed out. But then, I would rather not get arrested for what could have been averted.
“Have you seen what you made her become? Won't you berate her for insulting me like that?” I resent Sophie.
She takes the fall for Katie's unruly behavior. If she hadn't informed Katie of my secret, Katie wouldn't have the nerve to speak to me in that tone of voice.
“Katie did absolutely right. Don't fault her. Why are we focusing on Katie? This should be about us,” Sophie clapped back.
My guesses about her were all correct. She has been dishing Katie disgusting news about me.
“Can we dwell on this at home?” I lowered my gaze.
I have realized that I would never win a fight against Olivia. She was fierce. She doesn't mind dwelling over this for the whole day.
“Alas, you've admitted your errors. I thought you were fierce. What happened to your gut?” Sophie spouted me with mocking laughter.
I lowered my gaze to the ground in defeat. I refused to let her mockery get into my thick skin.
If being humiliated would make her follow me home, I don't care.
I got a phone call.
It was Rene blasting my phone with calls.
My palms were shuddering.
I couldn't pick up the call.
That would be hazardous.
Without being told, I knew that Rene needed my help in the ward.
“Who is calling at this time? Wait a minute, is that your lover?" Sophie assumed.
She was leaning closer to me. Before I could find my stance, she grabbed my phone.
I made an effort to get the phone back, and Katie stopped. She blocked me from getting closer to Sophie.
“Rene again?”
Sophie wept.
My secret is made open.
No level of explanation yielded any result.
As I was about to tell my side of the story, someone called me from a distance.
Spinning around, I see Rene being brought out of the hospital in a wheelchair.
I just shot myself in the leg without knowing. How do I defend myself against this evidence?
