Delvin's POV
I had to sneak around just to catch a glimpse of my mate each time I came to the training ground. It wasn't as if I didn't want a mate but I just couldn't come to terms with the fact that I was mated to a male.
I had watched the way he challenged the trainer and held his ground. I couldn't deny that he was strong and fast. All the features I saw in him made me more attracted to him.
I had asked to be given a female one night days after I met my mate. I reacted normally but I just couldn't go ahead with having s*x with the female presented to me. I felt as if I was cheating on my mate.
The door to my office opened, and I stopped thinking about my mate to see my Beta, Kent, walk in. He smelled like him.
“Why do you smell like him?” I asked frowning at Kent.
“Who?” Kent asked pretending not to understand what I was talking about.
“You know who I am talking about,” I said firmly.
“If you mean Tate, then I smell like him because I spent time with him and touched him,” Kent said.
“Why were you touching him?” I asked as jealousy crawled up my chest.
“We are friends now. Tate and I. He agreed to be my friend, so we were just spending time together,” Kent said, shrugging.
“You should not be fraternizing with him. He will be gone from here once he is through with his training,” I said bitterly.
“I am sorry to say this, but it would be foolish of you to let him go,” Kent said, then mumbled something so low that I didn't hear him.
“Stay away from my business, Kent,” I said, then got up to leave him in the office because Kent nagged worse than any female I knew.
“I think Tristan is in love with Tate. He hovers around him and he watches him like a hawk,” Kent said just as I was about to open the door.
“Who is Tristan? And how is he being in love with Tate any of my business?” I asked raising a brow.
“Tristan is Tate's roommate. I have caught him so many times standing behind a wall or a tree just to keep an eye on him. Just like tonight. It wouldn't take long for Tate to reciprocate the feelings. One, they stay together, and two, Tristan is young and handsome,” Kent said, smiling as if he had just found the secret of our world.
“Why are you telling me all this Kent?” I asked.
“I just wanted you to know that if you don't want Tate someone else will. I just don't want you to regret it all when that time comes,” Kent said.
“I can't be mated to a male. Don't you get it?” I asked Kent angrily.
“The Moon Goddess knows why she peered at you with Tate. Did you see what he did out there today? Gordon is one of our fastest trainers. Tate matched him speed for speed. He belongs beside you. Don't ruin this,” Kent said in exasperation.
“He is supposed to be the Alpha of his pack. How is he supposed to be by my side in Blood Moon?” I said going back to my seat.
“Why don't you just do your part and see how things fall back into place. You deserve to be happy again after what happened. Please,” Kent pleaded.
“Maybe happiness is not for me. I wish I could see Arabel’s face when I tell her I am mated to a male as opposed to her fake prophecy,” I said smirking.
I didn't believe in prophecy. When the seer, Arabel, had come to me saying she saw my future and in it, she saw a powerful female at my side, and together we destroyed the rebellion that was to come. I had asked her to leave, but she had returned two days later to repeat the same thing. I had said nothing and allowed her to talk. When she was through, she left.
“Maybe you should visit Arabel and tell her then. Maybe…” Kent was saying but I cut him short.
“Where were Arabel's visions and prophecies when my parents were murdered in cold blood? Why couldn't she foretell the future and tell everyone that I was under a spell? You might believe her, but I don't, and Tate being mated to me is enough indication that Arabel is nothing but a fraud,” I said, punching the table in anger.
We both fell silent and that was when I heard the noise. Voices chanting ‘fight’ as if they were watching a wrestling match.
“I thought the training was over for the day,” I said to Kent.
“Yes, but what is the noise about?” Kent said and he was out of my office to find out what was going on.
I hissed and followed a few seconds later. I was stunned to find Tate in the middle of the circle plummeting another boy onto the floor.
I shouted for them to stop. When they did, I asked both of them to match into my office. I walked briskly to my office and they came in shortly after with Kent.
“What happened out there?” I asked looking at their bowed heads.
“He wouldn't stop taunting me. He kept giving me unnecessary problems. He called me a w***e. He accused me of sleeping with trainers and Beta Kent just because they pay me attention,” Tate explained without looking at me. He then wiped angry tears from his face. I felt bad.
“Hey, look up,” I said to the other boy and when he did, I asked, “What is your name?"
“My name is Arnold, Commandant,” the boy answered. I wanted to hit him in the face but I kept my cool. I had to be objective.
“What happened Arnold?” I asked.
“I was just joking with him, Commandant. He took it seriously and punched me,” Arnold said. I knew he was lying but I said nothing.
“So Tate threw the first punch?” I asked.
“Yes,” Tate was the one who answered.
“Tate, you will clean my office for the next two weeks, and Arnold, you will get kitchen duties for a week. You can go Arnold. Your work starts now, Tate,” I said, and Tate raised his head to stare at me with hurt in his eyes.
I mind-linked Kent to follow Arnold out and scare the life out of him. If he dared come two feet from Tate again, I wouldn't be responsible for what happened to him. Kent nodded and followed him out.
“What do you want me to clean?” Tate asked again wiping angry tears from his face.
“Come here,” I said patting the sofa I was sitting on.
“I am fine standing here Commandant,” Tate said.
“Don't call me that,” I said in irritation.
I got out of the sofa and stood before him. To my satisfaction, he didn't even flinch. I placed both hands on each side of his face and used both thumbs to raise his head.
“I am sorry that I made you cry. I am the Commandant here. I have to be objective,” I said.
“You gave me a punishment that has a longer period than his. He insulted me,” Tate said sadly.
“You threw the first punch, Tate. Besides, Kent and I will help you clean. All you have to do is come here, sit a while, and leave,” I said.
“All this can be avoided if you just leave me alone. All of you. I can feel the trainers watching my every step. I don't want any preferential treatment. I just want to be left alone,” Tate said.
I dropped my hands from his face and stepped back. I was guilty of being watched by trainers. I specifically told them that I had a special interest in him. I didn't know it was going to put him at odds with his fellow trainees. He didn't have to say it in a way that would make me feel bad.
“You think I want this too? I f**k girls, not boys. You being mated to me is like an insult to my masculinity,” I said to him with anger.
“Those who are gay should be ashamed then,” Tate said, his anger mirroring mine.
“I said nothing of such. Every female I have been with wants more. Why will I then be reduced to having you as my mate?” I was angry and I knew that I would
regret what I was saying later but I just couldn't stop.
“Fine. Since I am an insult to you and your ego, stay away from me and never involve yourself in my business. You could have let Beta Kent handle this tonight without getting involved,” Tate said.
The look in his eyes said how angry he was. I couldn't say what got into me. I closed the distance between us and kissed him. At first, he fought me, hitting me on the chest, but his hands soon went limp by his sides as he responded to my touch.
I put a hand on his neck to make sure he wasn't going anywhere and the other on his waist to pull him closer. He responded to the kiss with the same tempo as mine.
I just couldn't get enough as the hand on his waist started flexing, and I devoured his mouth, taking everything he offered.
He seemed to suddenly recover as I put my hand on his waist to his bum. He pushed me away and ran out of my office. It was like a deja vu. He ran out the first time and he did again. Damn it! For how long was I going to keep fighting my feelings for Tate?
I didn't ask to be mated to a male. I had never thought it was possible. Fighting it would hurt me as much as it would hurt Tate. I wished at that moment that I could do something about the whole damn situation!
