CHAPTER 9

CHAPTER 9 ATLAS "What was that?"Amanda questioned as we walked into my house that busy evening. I was still trying to wrap my head around what just happened at the gala. I couldn't stop thinking about the blood that gushed out of Oliver's head and how he suddenly lost consciousness. Does it really make sense that my punch would be that powerful to cause such damage? Did he trip or something? I couldn't fathom anything and it was really messing with my brain. The way Heaven had looked at me like I was a murderer and the way she had avoided me like a plague shattered my heart into pieces. I was still trying to get in her good books and this had to happen, just why? Why didn't I stop myself from punching Oliver? I should have just ignored them and tried to speak to Heaven later on. I just couldn't accept that they were together. I couldn't believe how Heaven had changed so much. It had been hard to reach her all this while and when she appeared, it was obvious she was back for blood. From the divorce charges to this? What if they decide to pursue a case with this too? I mean, it would be really absurd for them not to term this as an assault. Not with the way cameras had been flashing earlier and everywhere had become frenzy. Literally, the gala got ruined. It still surprised me how the media had gotten wind of it so soon and rushed upstairs. While the ambulance arrived, Heaven wouldn't stop panicking, and insisting I had done it intentionally. The reporters kept on throwing different incriminating questions at me that made my head go blank. All thanks to my EA, I had been able to avoid them and leave the scene. Even though following them to the hospital would have been the better thing, Heaven had warned me to stay away from them and forcing it would just create more media buzz and attention. It wasn't anything that I wanted. Not when the company's reputation was on the line. Guilt was eating me deep but there was no way to contact Heaven or the hospital. I just had to hope it wasn't anything serious and Oliver would get well soon. "I think you should go home, Amanda," I replied as calmly as I could. She had rushed after me and joined me in the car when I already told her to leave earlier but being the adamant person she was, she wouldn't listen. And all this was her fault. It had started with her. If she hadn't tried to pick up a fight with Heaven then maybe all this would have been avoided. But she just had to feel threatened by her every single time. "Why?" "I don't have the time to deal with you. Just go home," I snapped this time, losing my temper. Her face morphed into a frown as she stood akimbo. "I'm not leaving. What if you go to Heaven?" I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. "Should you be thinking of that now?" She shrugged. "Why not? You literally disgraced me back there by taking her side. You left me and followed her. Who knows what happened over there? What could you have been doing that led to a fight between you and Oliver?" I drew in a long breath. "This is none of your concern, Amanda. Just leave," I spat, walking away from her but she hurried after me. "It's my concern and..." I stopped in my tracks and turned back swiftly. "God, can you just get out? Leave my house!" I shrieked, causing her to flinch. She took a step back and stared at me with her eyes wide in horror. "Fine." Giving me one last look, she grabbed her purse and rushed out of the house. I raked my hands through my hair and let out a groan. The buzz from my pocket interrupted me and as I pulled out my phone from my pocket, it continued buzzing with different notifications and messages. Opening the link my EA sent to me, I shut my eyes and crinkle my nose before reading it all over again. Of course, it would have been published. It was currently the breaking news in the country and the way the journalists painted it, you would think I murdered Oliver. ATLAS BELMONT ATTACKS OLIVER PIERCE AFTER FIERY SHOWDOWN WITH EX-WIFE HEAVEN Oh God! This was what I didn't want. They would definitely twist the narration. Clicking on the second link, I was met with another damming headline. Atlas Belmont’s Career in Crisis After Brutal Assault at Gala! Then the next, Atlas Belmont Snaps as Rumored Romance Between Ex-Wife and Oliver Pierce Sparks Chaos! "From Glamour to Gore: Atlas Belmont’s Violent Outburst Rocks Gala Night!" What started as a glittering evening turned into chaos as CEO Atlas Knight attacked rival Oliver Pierce, leaving him unconscious in a pool of blood. I closed the link but different notifications wouldn't stop popping up. Atlas Belmont caught on camera assaulting his ex wife's new man. Just when I decided to ignore it and call my PR team, the last headline caught my eyes. "Atlas Belmont Faces Assault Charge After Violent Altercation at Gala just after his divorce fraud charges." Oh no! This wasn't looking good anymore. How the hell did they know about the divorce charges? Why did this have to happen during this period? Assault charges? Were they planning to press charges? I mean, I should have expected it but at least, I thought we would have a conversation over it and... A sudden knock from the door broke into my thoughts and my brows shot up. Did Amanda come back? The knock came again, quite frantic this time and I let out a sigh before hurrying to the door. Opening the door, I was met with two uniformed men. The police. "Atlas Belmont?" One of them asked, his voice clipped and my fists tightened on the door handle. "Yes." “You are under arrest for aggravated assault on Oliver Pierce at the Moment Gala. You have the right to remain silent...” I cut him short. There was no way I was going to give in just like that. "This is premature. There's no warrant." The other officer replied. "We have footage, multiple eyewitnesses, and a hospital report. Save it for court." He removed his hand cuff and headed towards me.
