A Dangerous Warning

Maya couldn't stop thinking about Daniel Blackwood's warning.
"Working for my cousin is dangerous."
The words echoed in her mind as she returned to her desk. She glanced through the glass walls of Ethan's office, where he was already immersed in paperwork, his expression unreadable.
A soft knock interrupted her thoughts.
Claire placed a thick folder on Maya's desk.
"Mr. Blackwood needs these files organized before noon. Accuracy is important."
"I'll get started right away."
For the next two hours, Maya worked carefully, checking every document twice. As she sorted through the files, she noticed one folder marked CONFIDENTIAL.
Before she could open it, Ethan appeared beside her.
"Leave that one."
His voice was calm but firm.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Blackwood."
"It's not your responsibility," he replied, taking the folder from her hands.
Before he could walk away, the fire alarm suddenly blared throughout the building.
Employees hurried toward the exits.
Claire rushed over.
"Everyone must evacuate immediately!"
Outside, people gathered across the street as firefighters searched the building.
"There isn't any fire," one of the security officers reported.
"It was a false alarm."
Ethan's face darkened.
"It wasn't an accident," he said quietly.
Just then, his head of security approached.
"Sir... while everyone was evacuating, someone entered your office."
"What was taken?"
The guard hesitated.
"Only one file."
Ethan clenched his jaw.
"The confidential file?"
The guard nodded.
Maya's heart sank.
She remembered the folder Ethan had stopped her from opening.
Whatever was inside it was important enough for someone to risk breaking into Blackwood Holdings.
As the employees returned to the building, Maya noticed a black car parked across the street.
A man wearing dark sunglasses watched her from inside.
The moment their eyes met, the car pulled away.
A chill ran down Maya's spine.
She had the unsettling feeling that someone wasn't just watching Ethan anymore...
They were watching her.
