CHAPTER TWENTY
Mel used the distinctive police man’s knock on the door and George answered in his robe. Mel came in and handed him a full carrier bag while trying not to look at him. They had worked together for years now but seeing a colleague in a dressing gown seemed too intimate to her. He thanked her and went into the bathroom, trying to avoid eye contact as well. He called out to her that she could have a drink from the minibar. Looking in the bag, he saw she had bought him boxers, socks, a T-shirt, a hoodie and a men’s wash kit. He was impressed – he didn’t know she was that thoughtful and it hadn’t been long since they spoke on the phone.
Emerging in his new kit, he smiled at her. “Thanks, Mel. I’m impressed. You must have zoomed around the shop.” He went to get his wallet.
