Chapter 1; Introduction.
Flashback:
Mommy and daddy are running, but I don't understand why. we were playing in the yard with my new remote controlled race car when Beta Matthew ran up to the gate calling for mommy and daddy.
"Axel! Malian! Where are you?" he ask frantically.
My parents ran out to see what the matter was. "Beta Matthew. What is it?" my father asked worriedly. "They have come. You need to go now!" My parents stiffened and looked nervously at one another. I could see tears forming in my mother's eyes. "But... how? we were so careful..." my mother whispered. "I don't know but we need to go" my father said hastily as he pulled my mother by the arm and the three of them ran inside.
A few minutes later they emerged carrying a few suitcases. They stuffed them into the family SUV and my father ran over to pick me up. "But I wanna play!" I wined. I did not understand why they were so upset. "Not now princess, we have to go. We can play later." he promised. He buckled me into my carseat and we took off down the road. I noticed we were heading for the boarder, were we going on a trip? Beta Matthew sat up front while my father drove. My mother sat next to me in the back stroking my hair and whispering "it's gonna be okay baby, mommas here." I was beginning to get scared. My parents were always so calm and collected. They seemed like totally different people right now. I began to cry, as any small child would. "shhhh baby, it's okay. I'm right he-" she was cut off by a car slamming into the driver side of the vehicle. Our SUV flipped from the impact sending shards of glass and metal everywhere. a piece pierced into my arm and cheek. I cried out as the car came to a stop. we were resting on the passenger side of the SUV and Beta Matthew's body hung limply from the passenger seat. He began to stir, thankfully he was wearing his seat belt. He quickly released himself and pulled my unconscious mother out of the vehicle. He came back for me and lowered me down carefully. I ran to my mother shaking her in an attempt to wake her up. She moaned softly and her eyes fluttered open. As soon as she saw me she enveloped me in a tight hug. I whimpered as she pressed too hard into my wounded arm. Just as she took my arm to examine it, she clutched her chest and screamed in agony. Her eyes went wide and tears began to stream down her blood covered face. "Axel!" she cried. I didn't understand, was daddy okay? Beta Matthew rounded the battered vehicle looking forlornly. He looked at my mother and shook his head. She wailed and held me tightly, rocking me back and forth. "We need to go, they're coming..." Beta Matthew said softly. After a moment my mother picked me up and her and Beta Matthew ran into the woods.
We ran for what felt like hours. As the sun began to set, and an orange glow surrounded us, I became tired. I could tell mommy was getting tired too. We eventually stopped near a large oak tree that had a twisted base, creating a cave like structure. Beta Matthew and mommy shifted into their wolf forms so we could fit better. My mother had a beautiful gray wolf with white patches on her back and chest while Beta Matthew's wolf was jet black with a small white patch on his muzzle. He towered over my mother, as a Beta, he was naturally larger. They curled up in the tree and I laid comfortably in between them. Eventually I fell asleep enveloped in their soft fur and warm bodies.
When I awoke, I was alone. Panicking, I crawled out of the hole and looked around for my mother. I saw paw prints in the dirt below my feet leading further into the woods. I decided to follow them in the hopes of finding them. I walked for hours with no luck. eventually, I lost the tracks and became hopelessly lost. I felt tears stream down my face. Where is my mommy? I sat down and cried, hoping that they would magically appear and scoop me up and take me back home. Oh how I wanted to go home. I miss my daddy, he always knows what to do. Where is he? I hope mommy finds me soon. I am already so hungry. I'm not used to being hungry. I've always had food to eat. I have never been on my own before. I don't know what to do.
eventually I decide to keep walking. Maybe if I find a grown up, they can help me. I walked until night fell and the moon hung high up in the sky. The later it got, the more afraid I became. My bare feet were blistered and bleeding from walking through the woods and my cute pigtails were entangled with twigs and dirt. I hugged myself to keep warm, but nothing seemed to help. I collapsed into the dirt, unable to take another step. It was then that I heard a twig snap to my right. My eyes widened in fear, but I was too weak to get up and run, or hide. I laid there, frozen, and defenseless as footsteps neared. suddenly a man appeared from the bushes. He was tall, about 6 feet, with sandy blonde hair and a scruffy blonde beard. he was wearing blue jeans and timberland boots. he had a gray T-shirt slung over his shoulder. his chest glistened in the moonlight. I trembled from where I lay, waiting for him to kill me. He approached cautiously, sniffing the air. I knew he was a wherewolf, but many packs do not take kindly to outsiders. As he got closer I whimpered and began to cry. He cooked his head at me curiously. "Shhh now, it's alright. I won't hurt you little one" he cooed. He scooped me up in his strong arms as though I weighed nothing. I looked up at him with terror in my eyes, unable to stop crying. "what's your name little one?" he asked gently. "M-Madil-l-lynn..." I stuttered. My voice cracked painfully at the attempt to speak. He nodded and said "My name is Cody. I won't hurt you. Let's get you somewhere safe." he stated. Sensing he wasn't going to hurt me, I tucked my head into his chest and let the darkness consume me.
