Ava’s Point of View
Before Ethan could say anything, the door to the ward was pushed open, and a group of police officers burst into the ward.
My brows furrowed, confused.
“Ava Smith?”
One of the police officers shot a glare at me. I nodded, unable to understand why they came here looking for me.
“You are under arrest for attempting to murder Lilian Grace. You have the right to remain silent as everything you say will be used against you in a court of law. If you can't afford a lawyer, we will provide you with one.”
My eyes widened. Heart pounding, shock coursing through me. What are they talking about, and when did I attempt to murder Lily?
This is definitely one of their plans, but why can't they just leave me alone? Why are they so obsessed with my ruin?
“Officer, you can't just barge in here and arrest her. Do you have any proof of what you are saying?”
Ethan's voice was laced with disapproval. He rose from the chair, walking to them.
One of the officers scoffed. “We aren't foolish enough to make an arrest without any evidence. We are arresting her because we have enough evidence against her.”
I've been through a lot of s**t in my life, but I've never been in jail. Fear found its way to my throat, constricting each breath out of me.
“Arrest her!”
The officer commanded. Two of the female officers rushed to me, pulled me out of the bed to my feet, and one of the officers grabbed both of my hands before they handcuffed me. I winced at the sharp pain that jolted in my skin.
They began dragging me out of the hospital ward, and Ethan followed us out.
“I will get you out, Ava, don't you worry. I will find you the best lawyer.”
He shouted as we reached the police van. The officer pushed me inside, and they drove off.
They both sat next to me from side to side. I was still in a hospital gown; they didn't even give me a chance to change my clothes.
This was happening because of Julian and his girlfriend. I'm honestly failing to understand why they can't leave me alone.
“Women are so wild these days!” One of the officers said, her tone laced with disgust.
“You can say that again. Imagine stealing another woman's lover by r****g him and trapping him into a marriage with a child, and now she wants to kill the poor woman. How wicked can one be?”
The other officer chimed in, her gaze sharp on me.
I swallowed the lump forming in my throat. She has succeeded in making me look like a villain in her story.
Everyone hates me. The whole city does. In their eyes, I'm a r****t. A murderer. A man's snatcher.
She becomes a helpless woman.
She has hurt me enough. I'm going to show her the worst side of me, remove the mask she's wearing, and make everyone see her true colors.
The ride to the police station was filled with every kind of insult directed right at me.
They didn't even hide the fact that they were talking about me, but I remained silent. I'm done talking and trying to explain my side of the story. I will make some people suffer.
I never thought I'd live to see a day when I stood behind bars with criminals, but Julian and Lily made it possible.
I lifted my head when the sound of footsteps echoed from the entrance. I thought it was Ethan, but it was Julian instead. I balled my hand into a tight fist.
“Have you realized your mistake yet?”
His lips curled up in disdain.
“I'm not a bad person, that's why I'm willing to forgive you. Apologize to Lily and come back home, and I will make Lily cancel the charges against you and just accept the fact that I love her and not you.”
The sound of my pounding heart echoed in my ears. He's so delusional. I can't believe he drove all the way here to tell me this kind of rotten garbage.
Control yourself, Ava. He's not worth your anger.
I chanted in my head. He can't make me lose control. He's not worthy of me or my emotions. I smirked, my gaze on him.
“What makes you think I'd settle for less if I can have more?”
I taunted him. My eyes scanned him from head to toe.
His jaws clenched. His face turned red with rage. His eyes were sharp on me.
“There's one thing I'm failing to understand, you know? If you love Lily so much, then why aren't you signing the divorce papers and marrying her? Are you scared that once she dies, you will be lonely, and you want to keep me as your kept woman while waiting for your lover to die?”
Julian slammed his hands across the cell poles. His breath was ragged. His tone was cold.
“Ava, shut the f**k up!” His grip on the cell pole tightened. “You will pay for everything you've said. You are going to rot in here until you come to your senses. And yes, I'm never going to sign those divorce papers. You are my wife, and I'm not letting you go.”
“Not everyone is ready to hear the truth, but the fact that you can't man up and confront your flaws is really sad. You should look at yourself in the mirror sometimes and see how disgusting you are.”
My voice is calmer than I expected it to be. Satisfaction rushed through me like a flowing river. I might spend a night here, but my words will haunt him forever.
“And for your own information, I'd rather stay here for the rest of my life than accept help from you. Go and be with your beloved Lily and leave me alone.”
“You will come back to me begging, but I won't help you then.” He retorted, trying hard to control his rage.
I couldn't help but scoff at his words. “We will see about that.”
Without a word, he stormed out of the police station.
