Chapter Forty
Ric
Wulfric should have felt guilty sitting outside his parents’ tent listening to their conversation, but he didn’t. A smile etched across his face. He ignored the guard looking at him strangely and sat back on his heels.
His father had always been his person, his best friend, but even as a boy, Ric knew the pain he lived with. He’d never imagined they could wake his mother.
And it was all because of Rapunzel. A part of him wondered if that was the reason he felt drawn to the woman, but a larger part knew there was so much more to their story.
Rapunzel had invaded his mind, his dreams, long before his heart. She was stronger than anyone he knew besides perhaps his mother.
The two women showed many similarities. Both lived much of their lives under La Dame’s control.
