Chapter one
Selena’s POV Divorce papers. So it finally happened. I always knew this day would come. From the very first night of our marriage, Leonidas made it clear. He did not marry me because he loved me. He married me to punish me. He believed I was responsible for Callista’s death. Callista was the woman he loved before me. The one he planned to mark as his true mate. She died in a car accident three years ago on the coastal road in Santorini. Someone sent him an anonymous message saying I was behind it. And that was enough. No proof. No questions. No chance to defend myself. Just judgment. “This marriage will be your punishment,” he told me on our wedding night. And he kept his word. Three years ago, after the ceremony, he threw me out of his villa in Athens. In the middle of the night. I was still in my wedding dress. Barefoot. Crying on the cold marble driveway while it rained. He walked past me the next morning like I did not exist. That was the beginning. And now, three years later, we were sitting across from each other in the dining room of his private pack estate. His lawyer had just placed the envelope in front of me. The same long table where I had eaten alone almost every night. I stared at the papers. My hands were shaking, but I was not sure why. Did I want to cry? Or did I want to laugh? I used to have nightmares about this moment. I prayed it would never happen. But now that it was here, I felt something else. Relief. Maybe the suffering was finally over. After all, I was only his Luna on paper. There was no real marriage to mourn. “Sign it,” Leonidas said coldly. “I can’t stand looking at you anymore.” His voice was calm, but his wolf was close to the surface. I could feel it. The air in the room felt heavy. I looked up at him. Leonidas stood tall in a fitted black shirt, sleeves rolled up. His arms were tense. His grey eyes were dark with anger. He was handsome in a dangerous way. Dark hair, sharp jaw, strong build. The kind of man people noticed the moment he walked into a room. He was Alpha of the Silver Crest Pack. One of the most powerful packs in Greece. To the outside world, he was respected. Charming. Successful. A businessman who expanded pack territories and invested in human companies across Europe. But with me? He was ice. We grew up together in Thessaloniki. Our families were close. I loved him quietly for years before he ever noticed me. And all it took was one anonymous message to destroy everything. Three years of silent dinners. Locked bedroom doors. Cold looks. He did not let me work. Every time I tried to start something, he shut it down. He made sure I depended on him for everything. He controlled every part of my life. In public, he played the role of the perfect Alpha husband. He told everyone I was sick and preferred to stay private. No one knew the truth. I never told my father, Dimitrios, Alpha of the Athenian Moon Pack. He is one of the richest pack leaders in the country. He would have destroyed Leonidas if he knew how I was treated. But I kept quiet. Because I loved him. Because I believed he would change. I picked up the pen. Signed my name. Selena. The sound of the pen on paper felt louder than it should have. Leonidas grabbed the papers immediately. “Be out of this house by tomorrow morning,” he said. “Take nothing I paid for. You will not get money from me. Not a single euro.” I did not answer. My mind had already drifted to that night. The night everything changed. A few weeks ago, Leonidas came home drunk from a celebration. His pack company had just closed a massive deal in Mykonos. Investors, allies, and other Alphas were there. I was not invited. I was never invited. Around midnight, the doorbell rang. The pack driver was holding him up. “He had too much to drink,” the driver said carefully. “I’ll take him,” I replied. Getting him upstairs was difficult. He was heavy, strong even when drunk. His wolf was restless beneath his skin. I laid him on the bed. I should have left. I meant to leave. But then his hand caught my wrist.. But he grabbed my wrist. “Don’t go,” he whispered. Then he kissed me. It was everything I had ever wanted. For three years, I had dreamed of him touching me like that. Not with anger. Not with disgust. But with need. My heart felt like it was flying. My skin burned. My wolf stirred inside me, responding to his. For a second… I thought maybe he was finally seeing me. Maybe the wall between us was breaking. He pulled me closer. His hands were desperate, almost rough, like he was afraid I would disappear. When he kissed me again, I forgot every cold night. Every cruel word. Every time he looked at me like I was nothing. I forgot everything. Until he said her name. “Callista…” It came out like a breath. Soft. Broken. But it was not my name. It felt like something sharp tearing through my chest. He undressed me. He carried me to the bed. He moved like a man drowning, like he was trying to forget something. Or someone. I do not know if he was making love to me. Or if I was just there to replace a ghost. But I let it happen. Because I loved him. Because I was weak when it came to Leonidas. Because for a few minutes, I felt wanted. Right in the middle of everything, when I was holding onto him like he was the only thing keeping me alive, he said her name again. Callista. That was when I knew. I was not the woman in his arms. I was the shadow. Still… I did not stop him. I told myself it meant something. I told myself maybe deep down he still cared. Maybe this was the beginning of something new. I held onto that lie. And now… Now I was pregnant. I had just come back from a private clinic in Athens that morning. Four weeks. Four weeks carrying his child. The heir to the Silver Crest Pack. I had no idea how to tell him. I already knew what he would say. That I was lying. That I cheated. That I was trying to trap him. He did not even remember that night. I was sure of it. He would deny everything. He would reject the baby. He might even demand I get rid of it. Leonidas took a slow breath and straightened his jacket. His face was cold again. Hard. Like nothing had ever touched him. “Do not contact me,” he said. “Do not show up anywhere near my territory. And do not try anything foolish. As far as I am concerned… you are dead.” Then he walked out. Just like that. And I sat there. Calm. Too calm. My hand slowly moved to my stomach. He would never know. He would never know I was carrying his child. I picked up my phone and scrolled to my father’s assistant. “Nikos?” I said when he answered. “Yes, Miss Selena.” “I just signed the divorce papers. Please book me the first private flight out of Greece. Somewhere far.” There was a pause. “Does your father know?” “No,” I said quietly. “And I want to keep it that way.” Another pause. “Where would you like to go?” I looked out the window of the estate that had never felt like home. “Anywhere he cannot reach me.”
