Chapter 4

I shrug him off and walk out the door. I cannot believe he had the audacity to call me his! Especially, after what he did. I could never go back to him. I could never trust him again. I quickly walk off and head towards the grocery store. I buy enough groceries to last a week. I do not have a car to help get the groceries home, but I did not buy too much, and my mother’s house is a short walk away. I start headed that way, but I notice a black sedan following me. I pick up my pace and try to hurry and make it to the house as quickly as possible. It only takes a couple of minutes and I am unlocking the door and rushing inside. I set the groceries down and race back to the front door and lock it. I look outside the window and the black sedan is still there. Nobody is making a move to get out. I wonder if Daniel sent someone to watch my every move. He probably would. It is like him to do something like that. He always wanted to know my every move. I try to calm myself down by making a checklist of what I need to do this week to make this funeral happen. Today, I will have to go and pick out my mother’s casket and make plans with the funeral home. Then later this week I will have to plan the reception afterwards. I know I am a good cook, so I decide to make most of the food. I put my jacket on as the sky is looking like it could rain at some point today. I head out and make sure I lock the door. The black sedan is still there, and I start heading in the direction of the funeral home. It takes me twenty minutes, but I make it. The entire time I was walking the black sedan was slowly following me. I just tried to act like they were not there. I cannot make them stop so might as well just ignore it. I go into the funeral home and speak with the director. My mother did not have any special requests for her funeral, but I did make sure she had a nice casket and that she had a nice flower arrangement of her favorite flowers, which were daisies. A few hours go by and I have checked most things off my list. I finish making the payment arrangements for everything and head back to the grocery store. The funeral will be in two days and I must start cooking to make all the food for the funeral. I do not have car and how my mother ever survived without a car I will never know. I buy my items and I speak to the manager about having someone deliver all this food back to my mother’s house. The manager says they will have someone deliver it for me and to not worry. It will be at the house in the next half hour. I make my way outside and I still see the black sedan following me. I have had enough. I go up to the sedan and knock on the window. The window rolls down and it is Kevin, Daniel’s best friend. I say, “Hi Kevin. Stop following me. I want nothing to do with Daniel. He needs to leave me alone!” “You know I can’t do that Amanda. Daniel has made everyone in town know you are here and that he will win you back. He is my best friend and he has asked me to watch you and make sure you are safe. He is worried about you. You left five years ago without saying a thing and he is sorry. Just try to hear him out.” Kevin says. Frustrated and knowing this conversation is going nowhere, I just walk off and head back towards my house. I go inside and wait for the groceries to be delivered. I hear the doorbell ring, so I get up from the couch and open the door. There on the front porch is Daniel King. He is holding my backs of groceries. He smirks and says, “I heard you had a delivery. I thought I would help you out and all since you do not have a car at the moment.” “Couldn’t they have sent someone else?” I ask. “They could have but why would I let anybody else deliver these groceries to your house when I haven’t seen you in so long. Thought I might ask you out to go to dinner with me.” He says, feeling so sure of himself that I would say yes. I roll my eyes and let out a deep breath trying to calm myself down. “What do you not get. I do not want to see you. I do not want to talk to you. I am only in town for the week and then I am gone.” I nearly scream. “You know you are mine and you will not be going back to wherever you came from. You are here to stay. I will make sure of it. You are MINE! Now just put these groceries away and meet me out in the car. If I do not see you in about ten minutes, I will come back in here and drag you there.” He says and just walks out the door like this was an everyday conversation. I know he will do it. He was always so controlling back when we were together. Everything always had to be his way. I slowly put away the groceries just trying to make time pass by slowly. The ten minutes cam and went. After making a huge fuss and everything he did to me, I think he deserves to wait a while. He hates when anybody is late. He is the most punctual person I have ever known. I decide to busy myself with cleaning the kitchen as it has been a while. I am in the middle of scrubbing the stove down when I feel hands grab me and throw me on his shoulder. I go to protest but I suddenly feel a stinging pain in my butt cheek. I cannot believe he spanked me. He was always controlling but he has never spanked me before. I try harder to get down and get away from him, but it is no use. He is much stronger than I. He opens the door of his Mercedes and sets me down in the seat harshly. He walks around to the driver’s side and gets in. He looks over at me with a frustrated face and says, “Next time, do not make me wait. It is better if you listen to me from the beginning.”
