The dark cells were exactly like the stories she had heard as a child in the pack. They were cold, wet, and quiet. The stone walls were rough and old, like they had once belonged to something deep underground. Hardly any light came in, just a faint glow through cracks above. It was always chilly here, no matter the time of year, and the air smelled musty, like things that had been left behind and forgotten. Adiana sat on the hard floor with her back against the wall, and her legs folded beneath her. Her hands were bound in thin chains, more for show than necessity, and if she wanted to, she could’ve snapped them, but she didn’t. Not yet. She wasn’t here because she was weak.
