the boy on the sofa, the girl in the corner
He was sipping beer from the classic red cup that were a must at parties; that was where he was with his friends that dragged him with them. The bitter taste lingered on his tongue as his eyes were fixed on those dancing, girls in clothes that barely covered anything; not that he judged them, his eyes moved around observing everyone. He didn't pay attention to what his friends talked about but soon his observant viewing was interrupted as his friends called him into the living room where they wanted to play some game. Not wanting to interact with them he took a seat on an empty sofa. The music was even louder in here and all he could think of was regretting coming with his friends but he didn't really have a choice. He continued to observe people again, not in a weird way he wasn't a creep or anything but he had nothing else to do. He watched people, some were still dancing, some were making out against the wall, some just casually talking. He was bored and he wanted to leave, but just as he was about to look away someone in the corner caught his eye. A girl was standing there, and just like him she was looking around but then she caught his gaze. And in that moment even through the dim party lights her oceanic blue eyes met his vibrant green ones. He didn't look away or at least try to look as if he wasn't staring but he continued and so did she. She was here, also forced by her best friend who happened to had gone to get some drinks for them some half an hour back and she didn't know what to do so she went in the corner and waited. He looked at her, and she felt as if he could see right through her. He had never seen her here before, he recognized all of the others that were at the party. She was different he thought, her black hair was curly, her skin was brown but not very dark, she wasn't very tall but she was the prettiest thing he ever laid his eyes on but she was someone his parents wouldn't agree upon.
Being from a rich background his parents were arrogant and snobbish, and were also racist. They despised the darker skins and never wanted to be associated with or be near them.
He was the complete opposite of them, and he was ashamed to even call them his parents. He had a few dark-skinned friends that were very close to him, without his parent's knowledge of course. Her best friend was the girl whose family her mother worked for, but they treated her and her mother like a part of their own.
She felt like she didn't belong there. Everyone around her wasn't like her, when she first came to the party, she saw the crowd and immediately, she felt self-conscious.
Although she wore the dress that her best friend had lent her, she still felt that she was a no-one compared to the people there but he thought otherwise. He thought she was only one that looked truest to herself without her make-up caked face and the missing accessories.
She felt even more conscious when she caught the handsome green-eyed boy staring at her, she kept running her fingers through her hair, she fidgeted with the hem of her dress and she did the one thing she always did when she was nervous; bit her lip.
And when she did just that, his heart fluttered. She looked so innocent standing there, he knew he was making her nervous and he liked that so he offered her a smile and when she realized he was indeed smiling at her, the unknown butterflies in her tummy came alive and she faced the ground as a blush crept on her cheeks.
He was ecstatic that he had such an effect on her, so he decided to go over to her and introduce himself but before that could happen her friend returned and her eyes were no longer on him. Still he decided to walk up to her, the room was crowded and she was on the other side of it so he had to pass through people and muttered excuse me each time he had to move between them. But by the time he reached the corner, she was gone.
She saw him get up and she knew he was coming near her, she never felt this nervous before, her palms were sweaty and suddenly she had the urge of tying up her hair, she felt as if someone had turned the heat on and she was suffocating with the hotness lingering in the air, but on seeing her best friend approaching she murmured a thank god and grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the house. She told her she wasn't feeling too well and she wanted to go back home and so they did.
She was on her bed, laying down and waiting to fall asleep but she couldn't, all she could think about was that boy with the green eyes. Surely, she was disappointed with herself and a small part of her wished she stayed there and talked to him but she couldn't, she didn't know why. She never felt what she did by just looking at a boy.
He was sitting at his desk, dotting down words describing her after he had just finished sketching her. He was frustrated that she left before he could at least know her name. He wanted to see her again, to take in more of her beauty and just simply more of her.
As they laid asleep in their own beds, smiling; they both consumed each other's unconscious.
