I felt the punch land on the side of my face. Pain rippled up through my jaw as I spewed out red blood. It splattered across my feet and the old wood boards below me. "That will teach you to open your filthy mouth again!" the guard yelled in my face. I had merely yelled out in pain as my head hit the side of the large wooden box we were riding in. It was a make shift large wooden crate with wheels on it and was being drawn by two horses. There was no standing room and just big enough to hold me and two guards sitting with in it. It was what the vampires used to capture their prey then feed on them later. Anyone unfortunate to be captured and forced in here was never seen again. I had no idea where we were going as I looked out the slit in between the rickety boards. My wrists and ankles burned from the silver cuffs around them. They were bolted to the floor and I could barely move. It didn't matter where we were going I thought I was dead anyway. As soon as this buggy stopped I would be feasted on by multiple vampires until my heart stopped beating. I had been running from the vampires my entire life. My parents had been taken when I was only ten years old. And for nine long years I had been running and hiding out where I could. I was a werewolf but I hadn't let Sheya (my wolf) out since my parents were taken. It was too risky. Even the humans would tell the vampires if they spotted a werewolf in their town. The humans were also preyed upon by the vampires but not like my kind has been. Werewolves had blood that the vampires deemed as "pure and delicious." So even the humans were against us. If they spotted or found a werewolf they would be sanctioned and the vampires wouldn't feed off them or their human family. I was the only werewolf left that I knew of. They had almost annihilated an entire species. That's why I never shifted anymore. Even in the woods when I was starving. I couldn't hunt. Someone might see Sheya and report it to the vampires. So I pushed her far back into the recess of mind. Sheya eventually stopped talking to me all together. I knew she was still there. But there was an impenetrable strong wall around her. I no longer had wolf abilities or healing abilities. It sucked I could really use her now. Outside my small c***k I could see a tall black stone castle come into view. It was ominious and everything about it was dark and cold. I had heard stories that this was the dreaded vampire kings castle. The vampire that ruled and had dominion over the rest of the vampires. I felt tears stinging my eyes and threatening to fall out. I would not cry. I could not give that mercilessly guard another reason to beat me. I would have to be strong and face head on whatever was about to happen with or without Sheya. I would find a way to escape this place. Then what? Would I spend the rest of my days running? Constantly looking over my shoulder? Searching trash for food scraps? Even that life seemed brighter then what I was facing now. Yes, I would get out of here. The buggy pulled up to the castle and the guard kicked me hard in my side. "Get up! We are here. And everyone is looking forward to your arrival." He spoke with a malicious grin. He released my shackles from the floor and yanked them out of the buggy. I fell hard on my elbow and hip onto the gravel below. I hissed as my skin peeled away from my elbows and knees and I felt the small gravel imbed into them. Blood started pouring out. I could hear the vampires in front of me sniffing and purring in ecstasy. "I told you! I only bring the finest to my King! This little wolf smells extra sweet. I know you can smell how special she is from over there. I want triple the money for this capture!" the guard demanded above me. A tall vampire in a blue velvet coat with brass buttons glided in front of me. "You will get what's due to you Hamrick." the tall vampire growled. I could see his polished black boots inches from my face. "Get up you mangy mutt!" Hamrick screamed at me as he kicked my head. I felt blood ooze down my head and face. "That's enough! Let's not waste any more blood. We want to enjoy her." the tall vampire said while licking his lips. I pushed myself up onto my wobbly legs. I swayed but remained standing. "I will be no one's treat! I won't just lay down and allow it! You will have to kill me first!" I screamed at the tall vampire in front of me. He smirked at me and his next comment brought bile into my throat. "You will be our special treat. You will be with us for a very long time, we will drain your blood but not enough to kill you. Then we will build you back up with the finest food and drink then feast on you again. Over and over and over again." He pierced me with his red eyes. All my hopes of a quick death vanished when he spoke those words. They were going to keep me for long time torturing me over and over again and I would always be denied the sweet taste of death. I wanted them to just kill me as quickly as possible now. So I did the only thing I could think of. I drew back and spit on the tall vampires face. I got a momentary satisfaction when I saw the smug look on his face replaced with shock and embarrassment. He quickly took a lacey handkerchief out of his velvet coat pocket and wiped his face. "I see you will need some motivation to be a good little mutt. No worries I have the perfect thing." He told me venemously. He motioned his hand up and flicked his finger towards himself. I immediately saw three black figures approach me. They had red eyes with dark fog wisping around the eyes. There was no body. They glided through the air at an incredible speed. Sometimes you could catch a glimpse of them out of the corner of your eye but when you looked they were gone. I guess that's how they got the name the Shadows. They fed on the screams of their victims. They could project their victims greatest fear to them in their mind. The shadows would torture their victims until they couldn't scream or cry out anymore and basically die of fright. They were mercilessly killers and didn't care who they preyed upon even vampires. How did the vampires have control over such dark creatures? I wondered. They were the epitome of everyones darkest nightmares. I felt a chill go down my spine as they moved closer to me. The air got considerably colder the closer they got. I shivered. "Take her to the holding cells and deal with her until she learns her manners."
