Amanda focused on her school work while the Lycan Kingdom came to terms with the fact that this proposal would indeed be debated and voted on by the Alpha Council when they gathered in two weeks. It didn't surprise here that nearly 3 dozen of the 182 recognized Packs were dead set against the proposal because it would mean abandoning 3,000 years of tradition.
On the other side, 62 of the Packs came out on support of the proposal, feeling that making people essentially slaves as Omega's for petty infractions was too unjust. The fact that it gave legal protections to all Wolves was something they were in favor for, even if it meant they were forced to recognize new Packs of former Exiles because they formed their own.
Even at the school there were debates about it, so much so that the administration had to hold an assembly to address the discord it was causing among the student body. Several fights had broken out because of it, Amanda not even immune from the criticism because she was the author of it. It however cemented her popularity among the Exiles who attended the school, nearly all of them wanting to be her friend. What surprised her most was when for the first time some of the Pack Wolf Children came over to the table she always sat at during lunch.
"Can we ask you a few questions?" the girl sitting across from her asked as all of the Exiles were looking at this Pack kid like she had two heads.
"Certainly, have a seat." Amanda said to the other 2 who had come with her. "I promise, we don't bite. Hard."
The 3 girls had a look of terror on their face as Amy smacked her arm laughing. "The only time I am going to bite is when I mark my Mate, other than that I am good."
The three girls kinda laughed while all the Exiles went on with lunch while Amanda looked at them curious.
"What is it you wanted to ask?" Amanda began before taking a bite of her sandwich.
"Is it true that you wrote the bill they are calling the Lycan Bill of Rights?" she asked as Amy nodded.
"Yes, I am the author of it." Amanda replied evenly wondering where this was going.
"We wanted to say no matter what happens at the Council, thank you. Some of us are in our positions because we were born into them and have no hope of advancing without it." she said as Amanda could clearly tell she was an Omega. Her wolf however was far stronger than that, but likely wouldn't ever get a chance to prove it.
"The injustice effects more than just the Exiles, which is why I made provisions for Omega's and all Wolves as well. It is high time we are judged for who we are, instead of what rank our parents hold." she replied crisply as a wave of excitement seemed to be entering the cafeteria.
When the eyes of the girl facing the doorway went wide in surprise, Amanda was surprised to see a Royal Messenger that was scanning the room looking for someone as she noticed Prince Henry preen.
"My father must be inviting me home for something." he said to his friends as he tried getting the attention of the messenger as his eyes locked onto Amanda.
She sighed as he began walking directly towards her without taking his eyes from her as he walked straight past the Prince who was being laughed at because everyone knew he was forced to stay in the dorms despite his family living only a few miles away. He stopped directly in front of her, holding out the envelope.
"Miss Amanda Dillinger?" he asked looking at her.
"Yes." she replied turning on the bench as she looked up at him.
"His Royal Majesty Damien Franklin Spencer would like to cordially invite you to the Alpha Council Opening Ceremony in two weeks time." the messenger said handing her the envelope.
"I would be honored to attend." Amanda replied as the whispers around the cafeteria began among the student body as the messenger nodded confirming her response before he walked out.
Just days before the Opening Ceremony of the Alpha Council, King Damien was desperate to find any information on Amanda as he could. No matter where he turned or what he tried however, there was extremely little to go on about what she was like. He had her education and medical records, only because those had to be submitted to the school on order to attend. Everything else was a complete mystery that was beginning to irritate him.
"Majesty, I just got a response from my contact in the human courts about Miranda Dillinger. Apparently just shy of 17 years ago she applied for and was granted a protection order as well as a name change to protect her identity. 6 months later a child was added to the same order so that it would be protected as well." His Beta Jared Knight said handing him another file that was only a few pages long that had a lot of redacted information contained in it.
Anything that would reveal the identity of the protected person was included, except for the name she went by now as well as that of her daughter. "Why would they not release this pitiful amount of information when I requested it 10 days ago?" Damien demanded.
"That is the curious part sir, when the protection order was granted, it was against the Lycan Crown and Alpha Council itself. They could not release any details upon your request as it would have been a violation of the order as well as the truce." Jared answered quickly knowing that it would tell the King that it was at least an Alpha the actual order was against.
"What other methods can we try?" he demanded throwing the file on the desk.
"None sir, everything circles back to this protection order. Miranda Dillinger has spent the last 17 years ensuring that her picture appears nowhere. No employer website, social media account of any kind, news articles, anything of a public nature. Amanda Dillinger is nearly as hard to locate personal details about, although she does have a social media account, it appears to not be about her personal life other than education and hobbies." Jared reported having already turned those details over and were included in the file that was pathetically slim. "The only method we haven't attempted sir is to ask them directly, Miranda Dillinger's employer informing me that for at least the next several weeks she will be away on business that she cannot be called away from. He also said that it is likely to turn into months while her daughter has the ability to stay at the school while her mother is working out of town."
Damien was irritated beyond belief that his only source of information was going to be a 16 year old girl that he wasn't even sure her mother told what he would need to know. "Make sure she has an invitation to the Opening Ceremony as my personal guest. Also included her in the Alpha Council Meetings for the first day as an honorary member to represent the Exiled Wolves in the vote for her proposal." King Damien ordered as Jared smiled.
"Already taken care of for the Opening Ceremony your Majesty. I sent the invite to her 10 days ago anticipating that you would want her there."
"Excellent, don't give up on finding anything yet. Dispatch someone to observe Miranda Dillinger and get a photo if necessary. We need to narrow down the list of who it could possibly be, something tells me that this information is critical to avoiding a full blown scandal." King Damien said as his Beta bowed and left knowing there wasn't anything else to discuss at the moment.
