Chapter 0: "I'd rather be alone"
5 years ago, the Kingdom of Magic, home of the witches and warlocks. "They have wanted to kill me since the moment I was born, they're just looking for an excuse, a chance.... I can't give them that. If I don't talk to anyone, if I run away, then I'll be safe." Elina had been repeating those words to herself over and over ever since she was a little child, when she realized who she was, and what her existence meant for all the magical races, particularly the witches and warlocks. The moment her parents saw her, they lost all the love they could've had for their little girl...she was certain to bring calamity to them all, so they couldn't bring themselves to be close to her. Her childhood was miserable, and going to school didn't make it better, as the kids bullied her, and mistreated her greatly. Even the teachers weren't exactly keen on her and decided mostly to ignore her. Sometimes they were cruel to her as well, as even as adults it was hard to hold back from not reacting badly to the girl that was fated to destroy them all. Fated....that's the word Elina hated the most, it's all because of her fate, all because of who she is, that she couldn't experience love or happiness, being doomed from the moment she was born seemed like something way too cruel for the poor girl. She gave up on trying to get people to love and accept her at the age of 13, when she was finally old enough to make it on her own, packed her stuff and left, in the middle of the night, crying as she did because she knew no one would miss her, they would all be relieved by thinking she ran away and got herself killed in the harsh outer world. "Even the beasts in the forest will be kinder to me, it's worth the risk" She thought to herself as she ran into the dark forest, determined to make it her new home. Present Day, the Kingdom of the Beasts, home of Werewolves "Everyone would be better off without me. I'm holding back every person I know" Romulus cried as he repeated these words to himself over and over, for he was destined for everything, from the moment he was born the expectations of him were as high as they could be. He was destined to rule, as his father did, expected to take care of the pack, and grow strong and powerful...and oh, he wished every day for that to have been the case. Sadly, Romulus was born with really poor eyesight (something rare for a werewolf), and he wasn't athletic, but rather a skinny, bookish kid, who loved to spend more time in the library than out with the warriors of the pack. He still tried his very best, but he could tell the more time passed, the more people worried about him not being fit to rule...and deep down, he was worried too. Everyone, including Romulus, hoped once he got his wolf, things would be better.. They put their hopes in the wolf form being all that he wasn't, that somehow, it would make all the problems go away. When his wolf was just like him, a lanky, slow and weak one, his people, his family, and even himself, lost hope of things ever being better. No one mistreated him or his wolf, of course, but he could tell everyone was disappointed deep down in who he was, expecting him to be more like his father, or his little brother, who was a splitting image of the alpha. In some ways, not being mistreated was even worse for Romulus, because he believed he deserved it, and yet no one would. He, of course, didn't get a mate when he turned 18, as he knew would happen, because the Moon Goddess had forsaken him, and he would get nothing. His parents and little brother, as per usual, tried to reassure him that it would all be okay, that this was but a tiny problem on the path, but he knew that wasn't the case...he knew those were empty words, and denial, because the truth was: He shouldn't be here. On the night he turned 18, Romulus packed a bag that his wolf could carry, transformed and ran off. He couldn't bear to be in his house any longer, and hoped his parents would take his disappearance as a blessing, declare him dead and let his brother take his place. "In the forest I won't bother anyone, they won't have to suffer for the misfortune I bring them anymore, even getting mauled by beasts is better than seeing them disappointed again" he said to himself as he steadied his resolve, and walked inside the dark forest, determined to make it his very own prison.
