Alex smelled coffee when she walked down the hall. She entered the kitchen and found Sarah and Michelle sitting at the table, enjoying a cup.
“Damn, you look rough,” Sarah said.
“Thanks,” Alex murmured, pouring herself a cup of coffee and sitting down at the table with her friends.
“Did you forget to sleep last night?”
“Something like that.” She rubbed her eyes, trying to wipe the sleep out.
“Did you sleep at all?” Michelle asked with concern.
“Not much. I had a few things on my mind.”
“I didn’t sleep very well on that lumpy chair of yours,” Sarah complained.
“Seriously, you looked pretty comfortable when I got home last night. Not only were you snoring, but you were drooling all over my chair.” Alex was grateful that Sarah was trying to lighten the heaviness in the room.
