Holy s.hit, I zero in on the woman who looks like a wet dream, that's walking in with my attorney. Or one of them, since I don't see that f.ucker Thomas. Don't get me wrong, Raven is good looking and all, but the woman walking in with her blows her out of the water. I almost don't quite pay attention to what's going on until I hear my lawyer getting defensive. Once the judge explains why he questioned her ability, it makes my question why the f***k Thomas isn't here, and what the f***k he's playing at sending just the inexperienced one. Once she starts talking though, I'm presently surprised by how confident she sounds, and by how much sense she's making.
"Well, Mr. Collins what do you have to say for yourself?" The judge interrupts Raven and looks at me. "Will I be seeing your name again before you get to trial?"
"No your honor," I answer him, then stand up to be respectful. "Like my lawyer here says, I have many ties to the community, and I'm not a coward. I didn't kill anybody, but I'm not going to run away and hide from this trial. I'll see the whole thing out. I just ask that I be treated as fairly as any other person would." After exchanging a few more words, my lawyer manages to get me out on bail. I'll have to head back to the prison while it's posted, but I should be getting out today by the sounds of it.
"May I have a moment with my client before he is taken back?"
"There's a room next to this one that you can use." The judge tells her.
"Great thank you. James, how are you doing?" she asks as soon as the door is shut, all business-like.
"I'll be better once I get out of that f.ucking place." I answer truthfully.
"I will speak with Luke after we leave, he, along with your other friends, are all waiting outside the courthouse. Once they get the bail money together, or visit a bondsman we can drive up to get you processed out. But I want to make sure you're going to be safe in the meantime. You understand why I had you put in protective custody yes?"
"Yeah, I got the message."
"Will you be safe while we are getting you out then?"
"The boys will have the money together before I get back there. I doubt there will be much time before I'm released."
"Be that as it may, I'll be heading straight there as well to ensure your safe release." Fine by me, the smoother this goes the better. But I'm hoping she's not the only one coming. I look at the woman that came with her.
"You coming too sweet thing?"
"Her name is Ameilia, and she will be coming with me, yes." Raven answers, taking a slight step in front of her, like she's being protective.
"She can't speak?" I ask, amused at the look on her face.
"I-I speak," she finally mumbles out. I give her a wink, and try to take a step forward, but Raven plants herself directly between us now. That's okay, I respect the loyalty she's showing her.
"Well Mr. Collins I will let the guard know you're ready and then I'll go talk to Luke. We'll see you in a few hours."
"Sure thing," I tell her but I don't take my eyes off the little pixie in front of me. I get on the bus and make the longa.ss trip back to the f.ucking prison. I get there, go through the whole f.ucking search s.hit again, then the bring me to my cell. I assume I'll be here for a few hours, at least, but not all that much time passes before some wet behind the ears guard comes and get me. "Time to get out of here already?" I gloat to him, but he doesn't say anything just pushes me along. He brings me to what I assume is some kind of holding room or something and leaves me there. I sit down and wait, and wait. I'm starting to get suspicious about being so left alone here, when the door opens and a few guards come in. Then a couple more, I don't recognize any of them except for one. Bryant the captain called him.
"Well, well, well," he says grinning at me like a hyena. "Look at that, no one here to watch over you. No little guards to go running to your little gang to have them move you into solitary huh?"
"You got something you wanna say, f.ucking say it," I interrupt him when he starts blathering on again. He stops talking and takes a step towards me. I stand up, happy that I tower over the p.rick who can't be much taller than 5" 5'. I'm forced to my knees when someone takes a baton to the back of my knees. I knew this was coming as soon as they walked in, doesn't mean it's going to be any easier to take their s.hit. But I won't risk getting out of this place. Bryant lands a punch, and one of the guys behind me kicks me in the back, hard enough that I fall forward. Next thing I know, I have boots kicking and stomping all over me, but I refuse to give them the satisfaction of knowing how much it f.ucking hurts. I close my eyes for a moment when I see more boots coming into the room, bracing myself for more pain. That's not what happens though.
That's enough!" The crowd around me parts and I see my lawyer run in. The guards are cursing and one that was facing me spins around towards her. His hand flys up in surprise I'm guessing and he backhands her across the face, almost making her fall.
"Who the f***k is this?" one of the guards, growls.
"My lawyer a.ssholes," I tell them, satisfaction filling my voice. They all take a step back and at that bit of news, and I sit up, painfully. Raven comes over and bends down so she's at eye level with me.
"Can you get up?" she asks me.
"Yes," I tell her, surprised when she throws my arm around her shoulder as I stumble. One of the guards stands in front of us, and I'm again surprised by her when her face hardens as she looks at him.
"Get out of our way," she snaps.
"I just want to make sure we aren't going to have any trouble here." Bryant tells her, they go back and forth a bit, but I'm pretty sure I have a concussion because I don't really catch all of it. But I do catch when he asks me if we're going to have a problem, and I tell him no. Because we won't right now, but he will be on my s.hit list to take care of later.
"Why the h.ell did you do that?" I ask her
"Excuse me?"
"Why did you do that? You could have been seriously hurt Raven, as it is they'll probably have it in for you now."
"I knew something wasn't right, I trusted my instincts and I was right. If you are expecting some type of apology or something you're not getting one. Now stop talking so we can concentrate on getting the h.ell out of here." By the time we get outside, Thor, and that assistant Ameilia are waiting for us. Thor looks like he's about to k.ill someone, but Ameilia has stolen my attention. After a bunch of arguing all around, we end up in a cage driving back with Ameilia and Raven, and Thor behind the wheel.
We talk a bit about what's happened, and what we're going to be doing and then Thor hits a drive-thru. I feel like s.hit but I'm starving so I have him grab me something. "Thanks," I say as I look up at Ameilia.
"F-for what?" she asks, looking down at me.
"For letting me lie on your lap," I move my head a bit get even more comfortable. f***k she smells good.
"Oh, well, you didn't look like you'd be able to sit up for this whole car ride so it's really no problem."
"You know what would really help me feel better?"
"What?" she asks, looking like she'd do anything to make me feel better.
"A kiss."
"A kiss?" she repeats, then snorts out a laugh.
"Yeah, you know kissing injuries helps them heal faster."
"I mean, maybe if you were a child, but I have a feeling a kiss won't make these injuries better."
"Only one way to find out." She raises her eyebrow at me, but starts laughing. She looks so f.ucking gorgeous when she laughs I have half a mind to reach up and kiss her, pain be damned. But then a wave of nausea overtakes me, and I reach back and grab the door handle trying to take my mind off of it.
"Pull over!" Ameilia yells.
