Chapter 6 - James

"You're being placed under arrest for violating your probation, and for an attack on another group of thugs, that left a bunch of them dead." "Show me the warrant," Raven demands as she walks towards them with her hand outstretched. "And you are?" The jacka.ss snarls at her. "I am Mr. Collins lawyer, now please hand me the warrant. This is based on a confidential informant." She says after a minute. "Sure is, and it's signed by a judge. We'll be taking him into custody." "Then I'll be right behind you," Raven turns and winks at gives me a tight smile. "Don't fight them, and don't say a single word until I'm with you." "Yeah, yeah, I know the drill." "I'm serious James," she grabs the sides of my vest and pulls me down so we're face to face. It's such an unexpected move I almost burst out laughing despite the situation. "I'm dead serious. You say, "I'm waiting for my lawyer," then shut the f***k up. You got me? "I'm waiting for my lawyer," the shut the f***k up. I will not let them do this to you again okay?" "I hear you Raven. I won't say a word. Except that I'm waiting for my lawyer," I say when she looks like she's about to yell at me again. Then I get brought out of the clubhouse in cuffs. They take me to county booking and go through the whole f.ucking show before they take me into an interrogation room. "James Collins," the d.ouche starts to say before I interrupt him. "I know, I want my lawyer, she's already on her way." I say then I shut up, just like Raven said to. They just laugh and walk out of the room. Raven POV Luke hops in the car and we follow the cops to wherever they're taking James. "This is bulls.hit," Luke yells as he hits the steering wheel. "I know, but I need you to hold it together. I have to make some calls." I tail off as I dial Ameilia's number. "H-hello," she finally answers, just when I'm sure she's going to ignore my call. "Hey, where are you? James has been arrested." "What? On what charges?" "Violating his probation, and as the detective put it, attacking another group of thugs. They have a confidential informant. I need you to start pulling records." "Of course, I'll get you the warrant, affidavit, booking number, judge's signature page, everything. I'll probably need about an hour to get it all together." "Perfect, we're going to the jail now. I'll talk with James, make sure he's okay and didn't say anything out of turn. Then meet me at the office, he's going to be there overnight but I want him out first thing in the morning. Looks like it will be an all-nighter." I hang up and Luke starts yelling again. "Hey, it's going to be okay. Ameilia and I are going to get him out of there first thing in the morning. I swear, he's not going to spend any longer than that locked up for something he didn't do!" "He did though Birdie. We attacked the Slayers, he violated his probation, he had a weapon on him. Matt said there was another rat. What if whoever it was told the police?" "You can't think like that. If it's a rat, they would have more than that, and I think the rat would be in trouble too. James has done a lot more around your brothers that could have landed him in a lot more trouble." "I hope so, this is just such f.ucking bulls.hit." "I know, but we'll figure it all out." I assure him as we pull up to the county jail. As soon as I get inside and the deputies make me sit down and wait, I know we're going to be facing the same prejudices as before. There is no reason not to let me see James, aside from the fact that they just don't want to let me, yet. "Ms. Westgate?" One of them finally calls my name and I approach the desk. "That's me." "You can follow me this way, I'll take you to your client." "It's about time," I mutter under my breath, although judging by the look I get they heard me. They bring me into a room and a few minutes later James joins me. "You okay?" "In a sense, but I'm pretty p.issed the f***k off." "I get it. Did you say anything to them though?" "Nope, just asked for you. And might have mentioned you were on your way. What?" he says with a shrug when I raise my eyebrow at him. "Just had to throw something else in there huh?" he smirks. The i.diot. James POV I'm glad Raven is here, but I still need to know what's happening. "What's going on?" "I don't know yet, but we're working on it." "You know about the other rat?" "I know, Luke and I have talked about it. I'm not sure that makes sense, they would have to implicate themselves in whatever they told the cops." "Maybe." "Okay listen, I'm not going to be able to get you out tonight, it's too late to get in with a judge. Ameilia is gathering all the papers we need right now. I'm going to meet her back at the office and we'll speak with a judge first thing in the morning. Meanwhile, I'll make sure you don't get transferred out of here before you have an appearance, unlike last time." "Alright," I tell he with a sigh. "I trust you." "And it's not misplaced," she says giving me an earnest look. "I know that you guy have been screwed over by someone you should be able to trust. By a lot of people you should be able to trust. I'm not one of those people, and I won't leave you hung out to dry." "I know Raven, you're a good kid." "Don't say anything to anyone okay?" "Got it." She leaves, and I get escorted back to the holding cell and sit down. This is going to be a long f.ucking night. Ameilia POV I get to our office with all the paperwork and start setting it all out, before I make some coffee. I know it's going to be a late one because we need to be ready to get James out of there first thing in the morning. Right as I pour myself a cup and sit down, Raven walks in followed by Luke. "Thank God you're here already. Were you able to get a hold of everything?" "Yeah, it's all right here, and the coffee is ready." "God I love you." "Okay, I have the warrant, affidavit, the probation paperwork, all the booking information, and this one that has the judge's signature." "Okay, let's get started." We sit in silence pouring over the paperwork looking for anything that will help us get the result we need. "Hold on, Raven take a look at this," I tell her after what feels like hours of going through stuff. "What is it?" "Look at the date on this affidavit. I didn't even see it the first time I looked over it." "This information was provided three weeks before all that stuff went down with the Slayers." "Exactly, so they couldn't be referring to that particular incident could they? It has to be something else." "Or the rat is talking. This affidavit could have been from something else, but then they got inside information about what happened with the Slayers and plan to pin that on him. Did you bring his old case files?" "Yeah they're over here," I tell her, as I pull the box towards us. She starts flipping through the files until she lands on whatever it was she was looking for. "S.hit look," she points at a spot on the paper showing the number of the confidential informant from the first trial. It's the same as the one on the affidavit. "They're doing all of this based off the word of Travis Miller?"
