Chapter 5 - Ameilia

"Ameilia," Thomas snaps literally as soon as my butt touches my chair, so I hope right up and go into his office. "You need something?" "Yes, I need you to stop not being around when I need you to be. You are my paralegal and I need to know that I can trust you to be around when I need you." "O-oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize I was doing that. I've just been trying to help Raven with the case that she was brought in on." "And that's kind of you, but again you are my paralegal. You are not hers, Ivy is her lead paralegal and she can handle the stuff with this case. Please ask Raven to come see me as soon as she gets in," he says, looking at his watch before frowning and looking back up at me. "She should be here already, where is she?" "Oh, she got an emergency call last night. James is in the hospital, and I believe that she was stopping in to check on him this morning." "I suppose I shouldn't be all that surprised," he rolls his eyes. "Just tell her to see me whenever she gets here. That's all," he waves his hand toward the door, dismissing me. I walk back out and sit at my desk, thinking about that odd interaction. Thomas has never cared when I've helped another lawyer before. Especially if they were brought in to help out with his cases. I see Raven walk in after about fifteen more minutes, and that d.ick of an ex is hounding her about something. She looks like she's about ready to punch him in the face. I rush over there and interrupt them before giving her a quick rundown and sending her into Thomas's office. I pull out my files for a different case that Thomas is working on and my phone vibrates on my desk, with an incoming text from a number I don't recognize. *So when do I get the honor of your presence again?* *I'm sorry, who is this?* I ask, really confused because I don't know anyone that would text me, whose number I don't already have. *That's a slap in the face Firefly. Do I need to end up back in the hospital to see you again?"* James. How the h.ell did he get my number, and does he really want to see me again? *Please don't do that.* *Then come see me.* *Sorry I'm working now. Shouldn't you be sleeping or something?* *I'm in my room trying to sleep.* *Maybe you should actually sleep, and not just try.* *See that's the problem. I can't stop thinking about this hot piece of a.ss that stormed into my life. And she's making my c***k hard. Maybe she should come over and make that problem disappear.* I stare at the text on my phone. I'm not gonna lie I was kind of, I don't know, shocked but also flattered at the way he was paying attention to me. But I shouldn't have been so naive, he's in a motorcycle club. Of course he's trying to get laid, and I would be another notch on his belt. I've worked too hard on rebuilding my self-confidence to fall for this crap. *Like I said I'm working right now.* *Oh come on, don't be like that, you don't work 24/7.* *You don't seem to be capable of taking the hint, so I'll be blunt. Even if I wasn't working I wouldn't come over and see you. Please stop texting me during my working hours. It is proving to be distracting.* I can't put my phone on silent because too many people use it to get in touch with me for my job, so instead I just silence notifications from his number and get back to work. James POV "What the f***k!" I yell as I throw my phone down on my bed. She's into me, I know she is so what the f***k is her problem? "Prez," there's a knock on the door and Lucky walks in. "What is it?" I grumble. "We had some s.hit happen with Raven and Thor, thought I'd fill you in." He then tells me that Raven's apartment was broken into and trashed, and all about some s.hit going down while Thor was trying to brin her back here. f***k, more of the guys come in so we can discuss some issues, and I call Church for the next morning. They all turn to leave, except for Striker. "Want to talk about it?" "Talk about what?" "Whatever has you looking like you're eating sour grapes." "It's nothing, just this s.hit with the Slayers." "I've known you long enough to know when you're bulls.hitting me Prez," he tells me raising his eyebrows at me. He crosses his arms and stands against the door, like he isn't planning on leaving any time soon. He's the only f.ucking brother I'd let get away with acting like this. "I was interested in the lawyers assistant. I thought she was too, apparently I was wrong." "How'd you come to that conclusion?" "I texted her, a bit then she said I couldn't take a hint and to leave her alone." "Uh-huh, and what kinds of things were you texting her?" "Things I'm not going to share with you a.sshole." "Look, I don't know s.hit about this girl. But I saw her, seemed like a shy thing. Definitely didn't look like the kind of person who's crossed paths with an MC before. So I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that at least part of what you were texting her was s.exual, and I'm thinking that's not something she would have appreciated." "There's no way you can know that from looking at her," I scoff, but he just shakes his head. "You know I'm the only one of you f.uckers that managed to lock down a good woman. Maybe you all should listen to me every once in awhile. Apologize, and talk to her like a f.ucking woman, not a club girl." "If you're done with the lecture, there's the door. I need to get some sleep for church in the morning." He finally leaves closing the door behind him. I lie back and try to sleep, but after ten minutes of rolling all over my bed I grab my phone. *I'm sorry for my earlier text. I'd say that it was the anesthesia wearing off but that would be a lie, and I don't think that's something you'd appreciate. Thanks for your help, if you want to come see me, I promise I'll keep the s****l innuendos to a minimum." There, good enough. I set my phone on my bedside table and start to drift off, when I hear it buzzing. I snatch it up and take a look, shocked she actually texted me back. *Apology accepted, and appreciated.*
