Chapter 10 - Ameilia

1274 Words
I groan when my alarm goes off. I didn't get home until late last night and since we basically pulled an all nighter the night before that, I am beat. This is the only day I have off for the next few weeks, and I would prefer to be spending it in bed. But I promised Raven I would help her with the barbeque tonight. Who knows maybe I'll have a lot of fun. I have been getting to know the guys better, and most of them are a riot. I also really like Andrea and Izzy, and I'll probably be able to bring some leftovers home and have enough food to eat for the next few days. I used to use petty cash to get coffees and lunches at our old offices, only when I went out to get them for everyone else as well. But we aren't quite at the level of being able to have petty cash with the new enterprise right now. I finally manage to pull myself out of bed. I start my coffee, then I hop in the shower. After I feel clean from how grimy I was last night, because I was so tired I passed out as soon as I got home, and drink two cups of coffee I finally feel human enough for the day. I put on my favorite pair of jeans, even though I only have two to choose from. These ones make my butt look really good though, I wonder if James will notice. Wait, where the h.ell did that thought come from I scold myself. Then I search for a shirt that doesn't have a stain or a hole and I take off. I should probably have brought something, but I don't have the money to buy something pre-made right now. So even though I hate lying, I'll probably just say I forgot it at home. "Thank God," Raven comes running out of their house as soon as I pull up. She opens my door and practically yanks me out of the car. "I need your help." "Uh, okay. I'm not that good at cooking but I'll try to be as helpful as possible." "Forget that," she whispers at me, and I finally realize she actually looks scared. "Raven what's wrong?" "Just follow me." "Okay," I manage to get out as she grabs me again and drags me into her house, and upstairs into her bedroom. "You're scaring me, what is wrong Raven?" She doesn't say anything just disappears into her en suite and comes back shoving something into my hands. It takes me a minute to realize it's a pregnancy test. "Oh my God." "I know, I know, s.hit!" "Judging by your reaction I'm guessing you weren't trying?" "No we weren't trying! But after everything that happened at the club house a few months ago things were crazy. I forgot to take my birth control a few times, and I was really craving Luke's closeness, and s.hit, I messed up!" "Hey," I tell her softly as I walk towards her and take her hands in mine while I move her towards their bed. "You didn't mess anything up. This isn't just your fault okay? It's not anyone's fault, it's just something that happened. And if this isn't something you want, you do have options." "Can I be perfectly honest with you?" "Always," I tell her as a pang of guilt hits me because I know that I'm not being honest with her. "I think I'm more scared and upset because I never pictured this. I never saw myself as a mom, I certainly never saw Zach as a father. And I was okay with that, I love my job and I have always thrown everything into it. Part of me always worried that being a mother would change that. That I wouldn't be able to give my all to the one thing I lived for. I'm scared because I'm actually a little excited. After I saw those lines on that test, I immediately pictured a little boy running towards me that looks just like Luke. I never thought I'd be that kind of person, but here I am and it feels like my sense of self is cracking down the middle." "It's okay to change who you are. People were never meant to be one way forever. Raven having kids won't make you any less of a bada.ss lawyer. If anything I think it makes you more admirable because you'll be kicking a.ss in the court and outside of it. I bet if you talk to Luke he'll feel the same way." "I'm not sure he will," she grimaces as she shares that, but I can't help laughing. "Are you kidding me? That man worships the ground you walk on, you step into a room and his face lights up, like he hasn't seen you in months. I guarantee that man would do anything for you, and he would probably be ecstatic about the prospect of a little you running around." "You know what, I think you're probably right. I just, God, I don't know. I'm so out of my element with this, we've never talked about having kids." "Hey," I say, cutting off her word babbling, "don't work yourself up like this. You're going to drive yourself crazy enough thinking about your own feelings, don't do the same thing thinking about his reaction. You won't know what he wants until you tell him. And you never know, once you do, he might be able to help you work out your own feelings." "When did you get so wise?" I smile softly at her, "please, I've always been this smart." "Very true, thank you. I sent Luke to the store because I forgot ice, I wish I hadn't I kind of want to talk to him right now." "Why don't you stay up here and try to process some more. I'll go downstairs and start setting up. I'm guessing that giant pile of stuff on the kitchen island is for the party?" "Yeah," she says somewhat absentmindedly. "Perfect, I'll go through it and figure out where everything goes, and I'll send Luke up as soon as he gets back. Don't worry about a thing." She leans towards me and pulls me into a hug, and I am momentarily stunned, Raven is not a hugger. It takes me a full five seconds to hug her back and I feel her body relax slightly when I finally do. "Sorry, I know I don't usually do that." "No need to apologize, just hang out here for a bit and everything will be fine." I leave her alone with her thoughts and go back downstairs. I start taking all the supplies out of their bags and getting stuff put away or set-up. After about fifteen minutes I hear the front door open and two very familiar voices come floating in. One of them makes my heart stutter in my chest before Luke and James appear in the kitchen. "Hey Ameilia," Luke says as he walks to the freezer to put the ice away. "Hey Luke, Raven is upstairs and she needs to talk to you about something." "Is everything okay?" "Yes, everything is fine, but she really needs to talk to you so if you," I don't get to finish my sentence because he takes off up the stairs. And I chuckle, he won't be disappointed in the slightest. "Looks like it's just you and me firefly," I turn to the man that haunts my dreams and feel the blush creep up my face.
