Chapter 12; Confrontation

Esmeralda’s smile is so bright that no one can see the anger she feels right now. Earlier, she had seen the side looks that Alejandro was giving to Scarlett, and she couldn’t help but be jealous.

Since this was her night, she wanted Alejandro’s attention to revolve around her. So Esmeralda walked towards Scarlett and said, “What is wrong? Why do you look annoyed? Is something or someone bothering you? Since this is my big night, I want everyone to be happy...” Esmeralda utters as she stops in front of Scarlett.

Meanwhile, Scarlett did not want to hide her irritation and said, “Why did you hide the truth from me?” she muttered bitterly. Since she’s transparent with her feelings, Scarlett does not hide her anger.

“What do you mean? What truth are you talking about? Can you tell me what the problem is?” Esmeralda frowned. Although she knows what Scarlett is saying, she pretends to be clueless.

“Don’t play with me! You know I’m talking about your relationship with Alejandro! I told you what I feel towards him, but why didn’t you tell me he is your fiance?!” Scarlett replied with reproach. She feels betrayed... If only Esmeralda had told her that Alejandro was her fiance, she would have forgotten him.

Esmeralda secretly raised an eyebrow as she looked at Scarlett sarcastically, but when she replied, it was full of sadness. “I want to tell you, but I don’t want you to be heartbroken... It’s your first time admiring someone, so I don’t want you to feel sad,” Esmeralda said passionately.

“Then what do you think I feel now? You’re my family... Do you think I would not understand if you told me the truth?” Scarlett remarks bitterly.

“How can I tear your heart? Alejandro and I have been lovers since your birth... However, you are my family, and I adore you-”

Esmeralda did not finish her sentence when Scarlett raised her hand to stop her. “... You’re my family... Aside from Butler Mark, you are the first person I trusted!”

Esmeralda could not immediately answer when the light went out. At the same time, the performers came out.

At every party, a human dancer is always present; they serve as the drink and companion of the vampires. However, humans can’t guarantee their safety or they can leave the event breathing.

“It’s better if we go outside to talk,” Esmeralda immediately suggested. Remembering the event last time, she is afraid that Scarlett will ruin her engagement party once she sees blood.

Esmeralda grabs Scarlett’s hands and pulls her out of the event hall, not giving her a chance to deny her request. They go into a dark hallway where no one goes.

“Scarlett, you’re too young, so I thought your feelings towards Alejandro would vanish in an instant... I thought you liked him because he was the first guy you met,” Esmeralda explained passionately.

“I have told you that my feelings towards him are different! Yes, I’m young, but there is something between Alejandro and me that I can’t give a name ... Alejandro ... he-”

“Stop your nonsense!!! Scarlet, I’m being patient here, so don’t overdo it! Alejandro is my long-time lover, and you… The reason you feel something towards him is because of his blood! His blood is special, that is why you feel attached to him!” Esmeralda did not let Scarlett finish her sentence.

She is tired of listening to her or saying Esmeralda is tired of pretending to be kind and the truth is she wanted to slit Scarlett’s neck so that she would have no problem in the coming days.

Scarlett looked at Esmeralda with doubt... She wanted to talk to Alejandro and find out everything, so she thought of a way to draw him. “... Alejandro said we are the same, so I’m sure he’ll come here once he smells my blood,” she didn’t think and immediately cut her wrist.

“What are you doing?! Do you know how dangerous-” Esmeralda did not finish her remarks as she felt the intense urge for Scarlett’s blood. With this feeling, she instantly vanished from her stand and appeared in front of Scarlett.

“Alejandro will come here so I am not scared!” Scarlett exclaimed, but trembled in fear when she saw Esmeralda’s eyes. And it was too late for her to make a move because, in a split second, Esmeralda sucked Scarlett’s wrist.

“Your blood is so sweet ... The more I drink it, the more I want it!” Esmeralda muttered between sucking. She can’t stop herself ... Scarlett’s blood is different from human blood.

“Esmeralda!”

Scarlett was about to lose consciousness when Alejandro suddenly came out of nowhere.

“Both of you ... What is the meaning of this?! Esmeralda, explain yourself!” Alejandro asked coldly while holding Scarlett in his arms, who was pale and half-conscious.

Alejandro’s furious glare brought back Esmeralda’s senses. She doesn’t know what happened to her earlier ... As soon as she smells Scarlett’s blood, Esmeralda loses herself, and all she wants is to taste her blood.

“My love ... I’m sorry, I don’t know what happened...” Esmeralda tries to reason out, but all she receives is Alejandro’s outraged look.

“Enough! Clean yourself and go back to the hall ...” Alejandro commanded.

“But it’s not my fault!!! She did that to herself! I brought her here to talk, but she slashes her wrist for some reason!” Esmeralda exclaimed, giving Scarlett a furious glare.

However, Alaric’s face darkened even more as he remained silent... And since Esmeralda knew him best, she did not continue her explanation.

“Okay, my love ... I’m sorry ... then I will leave her to your care,” Esmeralda mutters and walks quietly.

When Esmeralda vanished, Alejandro checked Scarlett’s wrist, seeing that it was cut. He already knew what had happened. “Why did you do that? Do you want to die?”

“You’re going to marry my cousin! Why?” Scarlett asked. Tears immediately welled up in her eyes. She ignores the ache in her wrist.

Alejandro looks straight into Scarlett’s eyes. “Why? Why not?” he responds, with no sign of emotion.

“Do you love her?” Scarlett felt pain was making her breathing difficult, but she ignored it because she wanted to know Alejandro’s feelings.
