Ela never asked to be part of this world. Thrown into St. Monarch’s Academy after her mother’s remarriage, she becomes the outsider everyone loves to hate. To her classmates, she is invisible at best and a target at worst.

But everything changes the moment Adrian Blackwood sets his eyes on her. Cold, untouchable, and feared by all, Adrian is the Alpha of the academy’s social world. No one dares to cross him—until he shocks everyone by claiming Ela as his.

What begins as protection soon turns into obsession. Adrian’s possessiveness is suffocating, his touch intoxicating, and his presence impossible to resist. Yet standing between them is Clarissa Hale, the academy’s ruthless queen bee, who will stop at nothing to destroy Ela and reclaim Adrian for herself.

In a world ruled by power, secrets, and betrayal, Ela must decide: will she surrender to Adrian’s dangerous love, or fight for her freedom—even if it means breaking the bond that ties them together?

The Stepbrother 1
The Stepbrother The car slowed to a stop in front of the house, and my chest tightened. I pressed my palms against my skirt to stop them from trembling, but the nervousness running through me was like an unstoppable current. “This is your new home now,” my mother said softly, her voice warm, steady, full of hope. She looked too happy for me to ruin the moment with my unease. There was a glow in her eyes I hadn’t seen in years—not since Dad left us, not since the long nights she spent crying when she thought I was asleep. So I forced myself to nod, even though my stomach was twisting. The house loomed above us, sharp and modern, with cold glass windows reflecting the pale evening light. It wasn’t the kind of house you passed on a street. It was the kind you saw in magazines, the kind rich people bragged about owning. My throat tightened. I had never felt smaller in my life. Before I could gather my courage to step out, the front door opened. A figure leaned lazily against the doorframe, his posture both careless and commanding, as if the world revolved around him and he knew it. His shirt sleeves were rolled to his elbows, his tie loose, his dark hair falling messily across his forehead in a way that looked effortless but styled. My gaze shot up to his face. Sharp jaw. Cold eyes. A smirk that could make girls lose their minds—or their dignity. For a moment, my lungs refused to work. “That’s him,” my mother whispered proudly beside me. Her hand squeezed mine. “Meet Adrian.” Adrian. The name burned into me, too hot, too dangerous. I had seen his face before—on the screens of classmates’ phones, plastered across lockers in the form of stolen photographs. Adrian Knight, the boy everyone wanted, the school’s most notorious playboy. He was the one girls cried over when he got bored and dumped them, the one teachers scolded but never truly punished, the one who broke rules and walked away untouched. And now… he was my stepbrother. I stepped out of the car, forcing a polite smile. “Hi.” His eyes lingered on me. Not just on my face, but down my frame and back up again, as though he was deliberately testing how much heat I could endure. My skin prickled under his gaze, and I hated myself for feeling it. His lips curved into a smirk. “Cute,” he drawled, voice smooth, lazy, but full of meaning. “This is going to be interesting.” My smile faltered. I hadn’t even set foot inside the house, and already I knew—my peaceful life was over. --- The inside of the mansion was no less intimidating. Marble floors stretched endlessly under crystal chandeliers. Every surface gleamed, every corner whispered wealth. I felt like an intruder just walking in with my worn sneakers and secondhand backpack. At dinner, the unease only deepened. The dining table was ridiculously long, as if meant for royalty. My mother sat close to her new husband, Mr. Knight, their shoulders brushing. They looked like something out of a glossy magazine—wealth, power, happiness. I wanted to be glad for her. I really did. She deserved this after years of scraping by, after carrying both of us through hardships alone. But all I could focus on was the boy sitting across from me. Adrian. He didn’t eat much. He held his fork loosely, idly pushing food around, his head resting against his palm. Every so often, his eyes flicked up to mine. Every time they did, my gaze dropped immediately to my plate. “So, how was the drive?” Mr. Knight asked warmly, trying to put me at ease. “It was… good,” I murmured. “She’ll be attending the academy starting Monday,” my mother added cheerfully. Adrian’s lips curved again. “Perfect,” he said slowly, eyes locked on mine. “I’ll take care of her.” The way he said it—casual, careless, and yet heavy with something unspoken—made my stomach twist. My mother smiled brightly, oblivious, while I fought the heat creeping up my neck. I kept my head down for the rest of the meal. --- When it was finally over, I escaped upstairs to the room they had prepared for me. It was beautiful. Soft curtains framed a large window, the bedspread was spotless and inviting, a desk waited in the corner. Everything looked new, untouched, too perfect, as if waiting for someone else. I sat on the edge of the bed, letting out a shaky breath. My old room, with its peeling wallpaper and creaking floorboards, suddenly felt like a distant memory. I didn’t know if I belonged here. A knock on the door made me jump. Before I could answer, the door creaked open. Adrian leaned against the frame, arms crossed, eyes glinting with amusement. “You’re jumpy,” he said, his voice low. “Relax. I’m just welcoming you.” I stiffened. “You should knock before barging in.” He chuckled, stepping inside anyway. “This is my house. You’ll have to get used to me.” I stood quickly, hugging my arms to my chest. “I don’t plan on bothering you. And at school…” I swallowed hard. “At school, let’s just pretend we don’t know each other.” His smirk faded into something sharper, more dangerous. He took a step closer. “Pretend?” His voice dropped, smooth but laced with steel. “Sorry, little stepsister, but I don’t pretend.” I backed up instinctively until my calves hit the edge of the bed. My pulse pounded in my ears. “Adrian, I mean it,” I whispered. “People will talk.” He tilted his head, studying me as if I were a puzzle he intended to solve. “Let them talk. I don’t care what they say.” My chest rose and fell too fast. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair away from my face. His touch was light, fleeting, but it sent a shiver racing down my spine. “You’ll learn,” he murmured, leaning close enough for me to smell the faint trace of smoke and spice clinging to him. “I always get what I want.” And just like that, he stepped back. His smirk returned, playful but still dangerous. “See you at school.” The door clicked shut behind him, leaving me breathless. I sat down hard on the bed, clutching my chest. My heart refused to slow. I had wanted a fresh start. A quiet life. A chance to disappear into the background and finally breathe. Instead, I had walked straight into the fire.
