But before I could say anything more, Dennis had already climbed onto Jackie's back, laughing gleefully. "Jackie, you have to take me to school! Mom always walks slowly, but you'll take me fast, right?"
Jackie turned to look at Dennis, then laughed heartily. "Alright, little guy. I'll take you to school."
I watched them, feeling a bit left out. Dennis and Jackie were so comfortable and happy together that I felt like an outsider in this situation. I didn't know what to say, so I just stood there, watching Dennis giggle on Jackie's back. I felt a little awkward but couldn't help smiling at how happy my son was.
In the end, I sighed softly and smiled. "Alright, if Dennis insists… Jackie, thank you."
