VENUSForcing myself out of bed, I dragged my legs behind me, prepping for the draining day ahead. I went about my daily routine—getting dressed, stretching… by the end of the month, all of us had found a rather unique fighting style- mine was more relaxed, slow and calculated; Gwen’s was more violent footwork and mostly kicks; Zeus was good in nearly all aspects, but he wasn’t the type who played smart; Theo and Lyla’s technique was a mess, but yes, they, well could do the basics just like all of us; Ziara was more tight on her movement- but she preferred to stay with her guns; and the twins preferred something I would call brawling, they were strong, had the technique, but definitely didn’t have a brain and definitely were not aware of whatever the heck they were doing.
“We are going to practice your fighting today, by the end of it, I want to have your muscles aching, burning, I want you to feel it, ignore it and keep going. Whoever gives up first- be ready to face the consequences.” My eyes darted around wondering who would give up first. Lyla? Theo? They were definitely the weakest.
“Now… where should we start? Let’s say weights…” At about halfway through, my hands were burning with pain- yes, I guess Asher was right.
Well- that was a hell of a ‘warm up’. Stepping into the fighting studio, I could feel my adrenaline pumping though my veins, fast, I mean, my heart was racing. Everyone knew that what happens in here- let’s just say- it gets a bit violent. You know? More or less, we were practiced, trained, and needed to be this way. I was definitely not the type who liked punching people’s a** off. But guess what, that’s my job. Putting my exo on, I could feel my veins filling up. Facing Gwen, I lowered myself into a fighting stance, soft and relaxed, Gwen on the other hand, was bouncing on the toes, threatening to kill me any second.
“Bet you 50 I win.”
“Bet you 50 I win.” I whispered back.
As the klaxon sounded (which nearly deafened me), Gwen flew forward, slamming a kick on my jaw, staggering backwards in surprise, I jerked my knee up, throwing punches left and right. And what exactly was my aim this time? Basically, throw Gwen on the ground and not let her get up. Easier said than done. Seriously- it’s pretty hard. Since Gwen was the adrenaline junkie, not me, I wanted to play it safe. I mean- well having punches thrown at you in every direction possible was not my idea of fun- you know, it was more exhausting.
Keeping up the pace of Gwen’s kicks, I dodged left and right, hoping for some gap to pin her down, before I knew it, Gwen jolted her fist up my jaw, catching me off guard she pushed her hands against my chest, forcefully pushing me down to the ground, rolling left, I shot my leg up at her stomach, buying time to stand up. “Nice move,” Gwen whispered, “But I am not giving up until you are on that floor.”
“As if” I whispered to myself, forcing in blocks, kicks and punches. Dodging Gwen’s kick to my head, I swiftly slid swept her legs over, to knock her over.
“Not so fast…” Gwen hissed in my ear, pulling on my back, she looped her legs over my neck.
“Jez, Gwen please…” She tugged my hand hard.
“As if.” She mimicked.
The klaxon blew.
“And Gwen wins. Venus- work on your rolls, and don’t go headfirst into the dive.”
Gwen’s smirk planted straight on her face, making no attempt to hide it. Slowly walking away, Gwen snatched me back.
“Well, well, you think I will let you go just like this?” She snapped her fingers and winked at me. “Now pay up!” Handing her 50 bucks I sighed.
“What are you going to do with that. Buy ice- cream?”
“Nope- I will FRAME IT.” She snickered.
