Chapter 7

Lyla Staring out the window, I paused my thoughts as a 2 cars drove though- SUVs to be exact. It had nearly been three months or so of this torturing, we trained daily, at this point, running for over half an hour in the compressed tank was nearly no problem to us. All our fighting was polished to the finest, every kick and punch, reflexes were all to the fullest. Mentally, our faces were blank as paper if it needed to be. What I am saying is that if a gangster tried to pick a fight with us, we would have CIA level of defence. As the first car pulled through, three figures stepped out. A boy and a girl (and someone I couldn’t quite figure out). Beside me, Gwen’s gaze was just as intense, silently trying to figure out who they were. As the figures disappeared past the huge gates of our building, quickly fading into my thoughts, wondering who the hell they were. “Lyla what do you think you are doing.” I jumped to my name. “Umm… sorry, I was just um, daydreaming, sorry.” Behind Asher were some jumbled up faces- some look like they were in their 20s, others looked my age. “You think you’re the smart gem? I think everyone here knows that they should be practicing your kicks and footwork.” “Well, if you could come up with a valid explanation as to why you were whispering something about, we have to tell them to the other coaches- then I might start explaining.” I demanded. A spread of amused faces spread between the others. “Sorry, where are my manners…” He went on introducing 2 new kids- Rio and Alyssia. There were also a bunch of new coaches- actually enough for all of us to have one, except for the fact that me and Gwen were working with Luna. “Now that I have explained- Lyla why don’t you tell me why the heck you were not practicing.” “Um…” Caught off guard I knew I had no comeback. “Because… you were walking in.” “Not valid at all, but…” He went into a blabber about some sort of elements: Here is the list- our name, element and trainer. Lyla- Air- Luna Gwen- Earth- Luna Ziara- Temp- Elene Venus- Time- Phoenix Phoenix- Time- 25 Theo- Water- Asher Zeus- Fire- Oslo Axel- Weather- Matt Darko - Lightness, Darkness- Hunter Rio- Forces- Marc Alyssia- Souls, Blood, Energy- Jade “I definitely did not sign up for this,” Venus whispered. As if life could just be any better, I thought to myself. ~As we entered the far stretched woods, the calm echo of quiet chirping rang through my ears, filling my lungs with fresh air. It has been days since I had been able to walk through this place, not run or sprint. Pushing away the vines, we entered a somewhat cave, it seemed as though we had just entered another world. Similar yet different. “Now here is where you get your calling. Um… like just step in. Gwen why don’t you go first?” “I think Lyla should go first.” Leaning into a faint circle of light, I winced as Luna pulled me back. “I said Gwen, not Lyla. Thing come with reasons sometimes.” “Wait what do you mean?” “I think you ought to know.” “What?” A million questions filled my mind. “Let’s see, how to we put this in a more, simple manner.” “Just get to the point already!” “Ok, ok, so you know, when you were like 3 or 4, you fell into another portal of the spiritual world. There was a mistake and instead of pushing you back out; you got your awakening. So that’s why you don’t need to do it a second time.” “Ok?” “Yes, complicated, but Gwen please just step in and get your awakening.” “What if I don’t?” “You get it a more painful way, it comes to you eventually, but if it’s not an awakening, it comes through some sort of way where you go into the spirit world- let say perhaps dying first?” “Ok, not the best idea I suppose?” “What do you think?” “Ok fine.” Gwen stepped in with a sigh. “This is not what I signed up fo-ooorrrrr~ Oh my god.” There was a blue flashy thing like in the movies and the ground seemed to open up, sucking Gwen into the void. Gwen yelled out and I just gasped in horror. “What the heck Luna!” “She will come back out in a second.” “Jesus Christ!” Gwen screeched as she came out of nowhere. “What the-” As Gwen fell with a thud to the ground, the mud split apart, cracking along the way. Luna swore inwardly as she rested her hands across the c***k, reversing what just happened. “And what exactly was that about?” Gwen sounded furious and creeped out. “Gwen, you control the earth element and that underneath you is M-U-D mud. Randomly going about stomping the ground apart is not the best idea!” “Ok- I didn’t know that. Wait, you mean I just put my hand down and the ground splits?” “No- that was just like a one timer.” “So… there is more than that?” “What do I seem like to you, a babysitter? I am your trainer! Ok, lesson number one: before you get trained to do something, be careful with your actions!” I giggled, yes be careful. “The 10 elements put together are really powerful, but the four main elements- air, earth, water and fire are the most powerful elements.” I made a mental note to not stomp on the ground when I was mad- seriously not in the mood to start Haiti earthquake II. “Now let’s start with something- simpler than breaking the world apart, try this.” Luna lifted her hand, pulling a branch at her direction. Mental note number 2, these people are dangerous. “Earth- earthy items, air, anything, I mean if you manage it of course.” Now this was not my teenage dream, but still, it was better than sitting and listening to my English teacher blabber on about Shakespeare’s sonnets- seriously, what’s the point? “Lyla, now you try.” Turning my head abruptly, looking at Luna blankly, I received a teasing look from Gwen. She pushed her hand up, pulling the branch towards her. Flicking my wrist up, I focused on the branch. “No, not like that.” Luna lifted her hand. “Back of the palm facing upwards, then flick of the wrist, focus on the object and close as the object enters your palm.” A branch flew towards her. “Use your dominant hand!” Well- this was going to be fun, my hands were shaking from the concentration, easier said than done. ~ “Air is an element you use against your opponent, you play defensive. That gives you the best advantage.” If I learnt anything the time I have been here, I learnt that playing to your best advantage is the only thing you should care about. We headed into the back of the woods, where I usually practiced. Crippled dry leaves pathed our way pass overgrown willows and ivy. Spiralling deeper in, Luna finally stopped midway. “Here, here is where you will learn the air bomb.” “Wait what do you mean- like a bomb?” “It happens when you land and blow off everyone within a radius.” Well that is fun. Luna jumped off an overgrown tree, sending me flying off approximately 50 meters away. “What was that for.” “Teaching you how to do the air bomb.” “You mean I just jump?” “Try.” Seriously easier said than done. I went off into a daydream as Luna went into the mechanics of how it worked…
