The Gifted Ones

Chapter 1

     30 Days later.....

     The judge looks at the three girls and says," Natasha Anne Micheals, Amanda May Micheals, and Janet Lee Anderson you are here by awarded to the state of Maryland until your eighteenth birthdays. I am sorry for your loss, I pray you stay well and safe. I hope your lives become better now." Then she looks at the children's welfare worker and says, Please take care of them.You may go now. "From the court house the girls are taken to the Sunny Day Orphanage.

     By 5:00 that night the girls find themselves in a large room with fifty other girls. The girls are scared and alone but Tasha looks at the girls and says,"I promised mom I would protect you and I will. So please don't be scared. ""What will we do now?" Amanda asked."Nothing we just got here. No one will take us. Because if they do it has to be all three of us, the Judge said so.""Tasha how do you know all this?""Because Janet I heard the lady talking to the judge. She said mom put it in her will that we must all must stay together no matter what. I don't know what a will is but it must be really important if they said so. So we have to stay together.""Okay if you say so, I believe you.

   "Now girls its time to eat lets go. Since your new here just follow the other girls. Go down the hall and turn left then go up the stairs and through the big doors. Now on your way."

     As they start out the door Natasha says,"No one is going to want us are they?"" Now Natasha I can't tell you that, you have only been here a few hours. No one even knows your here except the cops, the judge, and us. Just give it a few days. Don't worry about those kids of things yet okay."" But what about our daddy wont he come for us?"" No dear he can't that's what ward of the state means. The judge said so. He can't have you anymore. You are safe here."" Good I'm glad."" Why is that Janet?" Because he scares me.""I understand. How do you feel about it Amanda? Amanda are you okay? Wont you talk to me? It's okay no one will hurt you here, or yell at you. You are safe here."" I'm sorry Amanda hasn't talked since that night."

     After a few minutes passes and Amanda says nothing, the women (Tena) sends them off to dinner and goes to talk to the head mistress.

Knock Knock...."Come in, What can I help you with Tena?"" Well madame I need to talk to you about the three new girls. Call me Rysta please. Now what is wrong? You know all the new kids have to adjust."" Well I know, but these kids are different. First of all they are very well adjusted for their ages. It's like they know they are not wanted. Plus I have this feeling they are hiding something."" Nonsense they are only four and five years old what could they possible be hiding? Besides they have had a very long week. Tena you know they watched their mother die right. I would say it is more that they are in shock."" You mean they saw him kill her? Oh lord NO! She told Natasha to protect the other two and then died."" I didn't know that , no wonder she wont leave them. Okay but that still doesn't explain why Amanda wont talk."" They tell me she hasn't said a word since that night. I believe she is in shock. You also realize no one will take her in because she wont speak. And that means if no one takes her then the other to are stuck here as well."" Come on Rysta you know they all have to stay together the judge said so. That means if someone takes one of the other two then they all go."" Don't kid yourself the last deaf girl we got is still here."" But Amanda isn't deaf. She has just had a very hard week."" Then why are you wasting my time if you know what the problem is?"" Well I just thought you would like to know what is going on here."" FIne I know what is going on, Now if nothing else is going on then you may go."" There is just one more thing."" What now?"" When I went to get them the three of them we just standing there staring at each other not saying a word."" So they are scared, they are in a new place. They probably feel lost and confused. They are in shock for sure. They don't want to talk much, So what Tena do you not want to work with them or what? Because you keep giving me excuses like you don't."" I just thought it was strange. I even scared them when I walked up. It was like they were deep in conversation and didn't hear me."" Oh come on they are four and five. Tell you what will it make you feel better if I go and talk to them after dinner?"" Actually yes it will. Maybe you could welcome them or something, see what you think about them."" Tena I get the feeling you don't like these girls. So I will go see them just to make you happy. Now please get back to the dining room. I believe it is your night for dishes."" Yes it is, thank you for seeing me."
