Mirage

“What in the world happened? How is he still fine after my attack?” Mathos mutters to himself after seeing the figure of Kris with little to no injury. The teacher is also confused of what happened. [Wait- isn’t this the perfect opportunity since he is still fine? That means I will not have to lose my job!] a smile crept on his face after realizing that Kris being unscathed is a blessing for him.

               “Woah- did Kris learn something awesome? Being able to withstand that attack from Mathos. That is not a weak spell you know?” one of the students that have been in contact and sparring with Mathos says and surprised the other students while Johannes on the other hand is excited when he saw that Kris really had a plan. [That’s it Kris! You bastard made me worry for nothing! Looks like I will not be treating him to our favorite shop this time! Go kick his a*s Kris!] he secretly cheered for his friend while everybody else is surprised of the current development.

               [I said it was weak but if he is any brighter and figured out that his mana is not stable due to his irritation, I would be at the losing side but thanks to that, he is really tilted right now.] Kris says to himself as he glance at his hand that he used to block the attack. “That really surprised me. I guess I can do this but since you took the first shot then I guess the test is on.” Kris then extends his hand. “Fire bolt!” Mathos is surprised that Kris decided to attack him back and erects a shield made of water to block the fire attacks from Kris using a spell. “Water wall.”

               But to his surprise , Kris’ attack did not end there. Kris appears from another direction with the same attack and pressures Mathos into erecting another wall of water. [As expected, he is tilted and still in shock. Yes, water is the best counter for fire but that is not always the case. You see as a magician, you also need to put in some factors before using a certain spell. A battle between magicians doesn’t only requires strength it also needs intelligence. For example, the water that has been building up below him, some parts of the water got into his skin right after he releases the water wall.] Kris continues to move around and launch the same attack in intervals to make sure that Mathos will let his guard down and release the water wall and force him to erect the water wall again and again until he is drenched in water.

               “Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff!” Mathos pant after Kris halts his attacks. [What the hell is with this guy? All he did is run around and firing the most basic spell that mages learn from the very beginning. Was he trying to do something?] Mathos thinks to himself just as the other students that are watching them. “Why has Kriss been using fire bolt over and over again? Can’t he see that it is ineffective?” one of the watching students mutters to the others who are also in the dark of what Kris really wants to achieve by doing all that effort for nothing.

               “That is the reason why you idiots stay in this class and rank. You are just looking at what your eyes can see, try using your brains for a moment. Even a slightly better i***t would realize what is going to happen.” A female student says and the other students did not spare a time in getting angry for her remarks and focused on the fight. [If my calculations are correct, he will make use of the water that is sitting under Mathos and utilize it for his win. Otherwise, he is just wasting his effort.] the female student thought as Johannes takes a quick glance at her.

               [I think she already noticed it, Kris wants to utilize the water around Mathos, either trapping him with a spell or attacking him with the water in mind. I don’t know what you are planning to do Kris but you better make it work before Mathos realize what you are planning to do. He is not only a bully you know.] Johannes thinks to himself as the two in the arena are catching their breathe.

               [I need to finish this sooner. Not only that this body is weak, my mana reserves are almost burned dry due to the excessive use of the same spell over and over again.] Kris lets out a deep breathe and collects himself before Mathos could make a move. “Lightning serpent!” right after Kris slams his hands on the ground a serpent made of lightning emerge and crawls towards Mathos who immediately realize what Kris is going to do. “Earth pillar.” Mathos raise himself from the ground using a pillar of earth to evade the lightning serpent that Kris sent out to attack him.

               “Did you think that I am that stupid? What do you take me for huh?” Mathos says with eyes glimmering in delight as he glares at Kris for making such an obvious move. “Take this! Water bullets!”               

               PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW!

               Countless water bullets rain down on Kris as he moves away from his initial place and releases the lightning serpent with his hand away from the ground. [I knew it, Mathos is still a huge hurdle for Kris. I just hope that you don’t get too hurt.] Johannes think to himself as he stares at his friend running away from the raining bullets.

               “Looks like the tables have turned, Kris is now on the run unlike before.” One of the students mutters as they felt the intensity of the fight. [That’s odd, he deliberately made Mathos rise from the ground with his lightning serpent. He should be able to have seen it coming. Was his attacks really random after all?] the female student thinks and observes Kris intensely and then she realize something. Kris doesn’t have a shadow. [What the hell?]

               She then scans the arena and finds that what Mathos had been firing his water bullets at is a mirage. She turns around and sees that none of them realize it. [Even the teacher is fooled? This guy- he is a genius.] the female student smiles after seeing Kris’ expertise in using his spells effectively.

               PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW!

               “Are you just going to run away all the time?!” Mathos gets irritated by Kris’ agile movements in dodging his endless attacks. “Flame shot!” Kris fires a flaming spear  that Mathos immediately blocks with a water wall but to his surprise, the flaming spear is a lot stronger than he expected.

               BOOM!

               The water wall breaks and sprays water all around after getting in contact with Kris’ flaming spear, Mathos almost fell but thanks to his quick response, another earth pillar appears to support him to prevent him from falling. “This bastard. Water bullets!” Mathos points both of his hands towards Kris and showered him with bullets.

               PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW!

               A smile appears on Mathos’ face after seeing that Kris got hit by his water bullet and finishes it up with an exploding ball of flames. The students as well as the teacher almost jumped from their seats after seeing the sight of Mathos murdering another student before their very eyes. “Stop!” Johannes screams his heart out but it was too late.

               BOOOOOM!

               The ground shook as Kris’ figure stands before them, full of holes. “What the heck is that?” the female student smiles as the illusion that Kris erected breaks in front of them. “What the hell did that bastard do?!” Mathos glares in rage as he turns around to look for Kris only to find him already setting for his next attack. Kris a triangle symbol with his thumb and index finger with Mathos in the middle. “Don’t blame me for being rough on you, you used some dangerous spells first. Water bomb.” Kris says as magic triangles appear before him and starts spinning. Mathos runs away in fear, thinking that he might be able to evade Kris’ attacks by running around. “It’s futile, I have already locked on you.”

               BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!

               The water on Mathos’ clothes and body explodes numerous times and then falls to the ground but before he can collide with the floor, Kris appears and throws a punch to Mathos’ face. Ending the practical test between them.

               “That’s for being a jerk. Too bad you got me as an opponent. Easy way out my ass.” Kris says to himself as everyone froze in place after seeing the sudden twist in the match. “What the hell? Kris is able to best Mathos in a fight?” the other students exploded in commotion after seeing the fight unfold before them. Johannes immediately run towards Kris who then falls to the floor due to exhaustion. “What the hell, I guess that is the limit. Not to bad I guess.”

               THUD!

               The other students turn to look at the female student but she is not around and just brush off the idea of her being there. “That was some splendid show. That guy is quite talented for a common noble.” The female student said but the other students waiting for her quickly abolishes her remarks. “That is nothing compared to you miss. He just got some luck with his opponent.” One of them says but the female student just walks away. “Is that the case? I wonder.” She says before leaving with the others.
