Trickery

After training themselves secretly using the methods that Kris got from his previous life. Their strength slowly increase in both physical and magical aspects. Johannes is glad to see results of their training but Kris on the other hand can’t hide his disappointment.

               [So this is our limits huh? The training that I recall can only strengthen us just a little, and it will not be enough to ready us for what is to come in the future. Just as I thought, we should use some cheats to get some massive power up. I regret not doing this immediately after going back to the past. The blame is on me for overestimating the methods in my past life.] Kris thinks to himself without realizing that Johannes has been staring at him from the beginning.

               Report: Scanning successful. Object found, 300 meters inside a medicine shop. 300 year old plum. Effects: Strengthens physical prowess and widens mana pool.

               [Yeah- I know that thing is in their but the problem is the money to buy that thing. It is definitely collecting dust in that shelf for a few years now but it is expensive as heck.] Kris thinks to himself after thinking of the same consumable that the system found. [The people that sells that thinks that the 300 year old plum is a medicine because it heals the most dangerous of all the diseases but those diseases comes by only after a few hundred years. The next big pandemic is still a few years away and me still in the academy am broke as heck.] Kris then messes up his hair thinking of some way to get some money.

               [Wait! Now that I think about it. There is a weekly task that is posted in the billboard every last day of the week. ] Kris chuckles after thinking that it might be lifesaver and would provide them with enough money to buy the medicine. “Johannes, ready yourself okay? We are going to do the weekly tasks.” Kris says to the still wondering Johannes. “What? The weekly tasks? Are we really going to do that? There was some tasks that still posted but the students here are mostly high ranking nobles so they just ignore it.” Johannes then gets stunned by what Kris is probably thinking of.

               “Wait, don’t tell me we are going to take all those tasks.” Kris then flashes a smile and confirms. “Yeah- we are going to need some money because we are going to buy something expensive that will definitely help with our training.” Kris says with a smile on his face while Johannes in the other hands is feeling a little uncomfortable with what Kris just said.

The two then went to the billboard to check the available tasks but to their surprise, the tasks are still complete. “Just as I thought, no noble would embarrass themselves by making these tasks. But thanks for that we will be able to buy the things that we need.” Kris laughs hysterically. But then he is alerted by the system of the number of students that are staring at them.

Kris looks around and sees that there are only four and realizes that there is one more looking right at them from a hidden place. [Now that would be bad. We never get stalkers after all these years and I don’t want to have one sneaking on us in the future.] Kris then quickly reads the description of the tasks and smiles after seeing a familiar one.

[Looks like this is going to be easy, these task are anything but hard at all.] He says to himself as he hurriedly grabs Johannes’ arm and told him that its time to leave. “Huh? Are you sure you’ve read everything?” Kris gives him a smile and Johannes understood and trusted his friend and then moves along with him.

The two then move to the and submitted the form that they want to accept the tasks. The employee that is tasked to record the names of the students who does the tasks is surprised to have some students willing to do those troublesome tasks. “Are you sure that you want to do them?” both Kris and Johannes nod their heads to his question and the employee then writes their names on a book. [I never thought that there would be students that would want to do those tasks. Usually this work is the easiest of all since there is not much to do and students almost do not do those tasks even though there are merits for them given by the headmaster apart from the rewards.] he thinks to himself as he takes a glance at the two who are waiting for the clearance.

 “Please sign here and you can return whenever you finish the tasks so that I can confirm that they are indeed completed.” He instructed as the two leaves right after getting their signatures done. [I wonder how old those tasks were. The last time I checked and changed the tasks were almost a year ago. I wonder how much tasks are piling up after the two manage to finish them.] he then dismisses the though and returns to look at the book that he is reading.

Meanwhile, the two then started one of the tasks and found themselves in the forest that is owned by the academy. “The first tasks says that we need to gather 5 5-leafed clovers. These are usually used in medicines and first aids but after healing spells emerged, there is not much need for 5 leafed clovers.” Kris says to Johannes as he let the system scan for possible sites where the clovers can be found.

Notice: Scan is finished. Move 5 meters forward and then move another 3 meters to the left to pick the first five leafed clover. From there, move another 1 meter for the second clover. From there, move 3 steps backward and lean on the ground. You will be able to find the third clover under a log. For the fourth clover, move 6 meters to the front, the clover should be beside a tree. And for the final clover, more around the tree and you will be able to find the  fifth.

“Are you sure that 5 leafed clovers are easy to find? That kind is one of the things that are hard to find even for adventurers who knows a lot. How are we able to find such things?” Johannes states his concern but Kris on the other hand is smiling and does what the system tells him and finds the clovers almost immediately. “I guess not.” Johannes says in surprise that it took Kris little to no effort to find the first task. “If professional people sees what you did, they would be enraged” he says as Kris puts the clovers inside a bag. “Now to the next task.”

“What was the second task?” Johannes have a hard time remembering the task after only reading it once so Kris reminds him. “Catch a male killer bee. That should be relatively easy task but I wonder why no students does these things. They have merit and you will be able to train yourself in some things. This is basically a way to get yourself stronger.” Kris says as he shakes his head. “Well, they are wealthy kids so there is no need for them to do this troublesome things you know.” Johannes answers him but then get surprised by Kris for doing nothing. “I thought we are going to proceed to the next task?” Johannes ask and Kris takes out a glass with a cover.

“Yeah we are going to do the next task, there is not much moving like the first one since the male killer bees can easily be caught by using a spell.” Kris says but Johannes doesn’t  understand what he means and just tilts his head in confusion. “Let me show you.” Kris makes a hand gesture and chants the spell. “Speak in tongues. ZZZZZZZZZZZ!” Kris mimics the sound that bees make immediately warns Johannes not to make any sudden movements as he opens the glass.

A swarm of killer bees then comes in to view after a few minutes as Kris readies to catch one, Kris disables the spell right when the killer bees are about to fly towards him. “Vacuum.” Kris whispers his next spell and pulls a single killer bee inside the glass and immediately covers it with the lid without the other killer bees knowing. “That’s second task done.”  

Johannes stares at his friend’s skills an wonders how he is able to do that with ease. [That is really sick. Where the heck did he learn such things? I know that Kris is the bookworm type but I did not expect him to know some things when we read the same books every time.] Kris glance at Johannes and shows him that the second task is finished. “Now then for the last task. We only need to find a glowing mushroom.” Kris mutters as Johannes safely stores the task requirements. “Aren’t glowing mushrooms only glow in a certain type of the year? How are we going to get something like that?”

Kris smiles suspiciously yet again after hearing his friend’s concern and agrees. “Yes, glowing mushrooms can only glow during eclipse. That’s why, we are going to do the same trick again. We are going to trick the glowing mushrooms that an eclipse had occurred. Johannes, I will need to have your help with this one.” Kris says to his friend who immediately nod his head. “What do I need to do?”

The two walk a few steps and already found a glowing mushroom that is not glowing and marks it as their target. “Are you sure this is effective?” Kris nods his head after Johannes asks him for their plan’s success rate. “Yes, that is why I need your help. You will be the key to make this plan a success.” Without any delay, the two then proceed as planned. Kris holds place both of his hands on the ground near the glowing mushrooms and chants his spell. “Mirage: World of trickery.” The world around them then turned dark as if there is an eclipse occurring, Johannes is also surprised but quickly recovers after remembering their plan.

 He holds his fist up and surrounds it with flames. “Flaming fist.” To make the image of the sun and moves his other fist slowly to cover the light of the sun just as it happens during an eclipse and to his surprise, the mushrooms slowly glow a bright white color until the entire mushrooms glow. Kris then quickly scoops out a single glowing mushroom but ended up taking two as they both cancel their spells.

“I did not expect for that to work.” Johannes says in amazement. “Yeah well, that’s easy money right?” Kris says with a smile. And at a distance, a figure standing in the window looks at them with great interest. “Tricking a glowing mushroom to glow with a fake eclipse, these kids are interesting.” A person in extravagant clothes says to himself as the two make their way back to pass the requirements for the tasks.
