Hand Of God

After the classes, Kris returned to his room where Johannes is already waiting for him. “You look so exhausted. Did that guy made you do some unnecessary things again?” Johannes ask and Kris shakes his head. “No, rather I’m exhausted because of our classmates. They did not stop talking to me, its exhausting to the point that I lost my energy listening to them and answering their questions.” Kris then falls to the chair with dead beat eyes.

               “You don’t have to worry about me as well. I’m doing just fine so you better worry about yourself. You are in a better class after all.” Kris added as he throws himself on his bed. “It’s good and all that you are doing well even after that match but do you know anyone with the name Flora? She talked to me and ask why were you not the one that got the advancement. I think I saw her watching that match that day.” Johannes said but Kris shakes his head. “Nah- I don’t know anyone with that name. I’m quite the pushover remember, there is no way I would get to know someone from the higher classes.” Kris says as she takes off his shoes. 

               [Flora huh? I think I remember that name but it would be ridiculous and Johannes would be pestering me about it if I told him.] Kris thinks to himself and the system informs him of the suspicion of Johannes.

               Notice: The subject Johannes is doubtful of your words. I also find it unnecessary to add such words. A simple denial would be more effective.

               [This system, does it has it’s own ego or something?] Kris gets irritated as the system continues to roast him inside his head.

               “You say that but for me, you are the one with the best performance that day, I even think that my performance is a bit lacking since I was paired with a rather easy opponent.” Johannes says with an indifferent tone. And the system informs Kris about Johannes’ state.

               Notice: The subject Johannes seems to be discouraged of the results. Conclusion: The subject might want to return to your class.

               [Ah, that might happen without you telling me system. I know Johannes more than anyone else, even in my past life he would do anything to help me even if it cost him his life. That’s how he really is but now its different. I will not let him suffer because of me. And so, I will have to help him get stronger. That way, we can’t be hurt like we had in my previous life.] Kris thinks to himself as he remembers a place where they could get some things that would easily strengthen themselves.

               “Johannes, now that I think about it. What do you think if we both train ourselves together. You are quite good at using spells but you loathe of the thought of ever using your physical strength. I just happen to remember something that would easily change your mind.” Kris says but Johannes did not even respond nor get surprised by his words.

               [He is still dwelling in the past huh? He is still blaming himself for what happened to his family after all these years. Johannes is a strong person with overwhelming physical strength in the past but due to some certain accident, he stopped using his strength. That all happened when he used to get into fights but there is a certain group that Johannes fought with that turns for his family for revenge. His family is killed in the middle of the night and Johannes is forced to watch them die before his very eyes.] Kris close his eyes as he remembers what exactly happened to Johannes after that night.

               [We are already friends but not to the point that I would play with him all the time. Johannes is rea really bright and cheerful person so he has many friends, a perfect opposite of me. But after that incident, the ones so called friends of his disappeared. And no one was left on his side, except for me. I was the one person that he least expect to stay on his side during that things that he is going through. I wasn’t expecting to do something like that as well but something tells me that if I abandon him, I would regret it for the rest of  my life.]

[And so I did what everyone else didn’t do, I stayed beside him even when my parents were against it. The people that killed his family is backed by influential families so there is no way to get some revenge, in the contrary, Johannes was the one that was blamed for everything. And in that day on, Johannes refused to use his strength on anyone else, that is until we discovered the existence of spells.]

[We got really hooked in using spells that we even learn how to use a simple spell in such an early age. The person that taught us is quite surprised about our achievement but tells us not to show it to everyone else since it might do some complications in his life. The man suggested that we hide it until we can apply for the academy. That way, people will not get suspicious of us using spells. We heed the man’s words and practiced secretly on our own until we developed on what would people call, Affinity.]

[Each of us developed affinity to certain spell types and kinds, having different types of affinity, our practice became different but still, we continue to train together. And one day, the man invited us to go to his mansion. He told us that he is able to back us up and successfully enrolled us to the academy but in return, he wants us to show him our improvements and so, we showed him everything that we are able to do. The man got stunned by our abilities that he wonders if we really are lesser nobles.]

[The man continues to train us and our measly abilities turned into something that is recognizable as abilities of geniuses but everything is not as great and happy as it sounds, nothing lasts forever, or so they say. One of the maids turns to him and reported him to the authorities for teaching spells to us. That time, rebels are fighting against the kingdom and the man is convicted and sees his acts as traitorous and is sentenced to death.]

[Being lesser nobles, everything we said to defend the man is futile but what break our hearts the most is that, the man did not even struggled and accepted his fate. ‘Kris, Johannes, always remember this. No matter how bitter your fate is, do not curse and plan to take revenge on anyone. Because if you harbor hostile feelings toward other people, that is when that you start to lose yourself and succumb to darkness.’  Those are the last words the man gave us and a few moments later he is killed by a sword piercing his heart.]

Kris smiles bitterly as he remembers the past that he regrets not getting back to. [If only I am back to that time. I could have saved that man.] Kris bits his lip. Johannes felt the grieve in his eyes and also remembers the man that helped them reach the academy. “For some reason, I feel like I understood your pain without you telling me what it is.” Johannes says with s bitter smile.

Kris turns to Johannes and sees that he started crying, he also felt crying but the image of the man appears on his head with a smile on his last minutes before dying. “We should do everything we can to live up to that person’s expectations. He gave us this opportunity so let’s not waste it.” Kris says and Johannes agrees deliberately and before they know it, they are already training their body as well as their spells.

Meanwhile

               “My God, was that really necessary for your to walk in earth like that? You purposely died in order to make the human Kris what he is now.” The female angel ask the one sitting on the golden throne surrounded by twelve pillars. “Humans change drastically because of the bitter experiences that they encounter in life. I did not manipulate him to be a better person to feed my ego, they all have their free will after all. If he chose to be bad after the death of the man that gave them hope, then it is his decision and I would have respected that but he just did what I hoped he would do. And that is why I am giving him a second chance.” The one sitting on the thrones says  to the woman kneeling in front of him.

               “But is it really necessary to give him ‘that’?”  the woman ask again. “You are quite the talker now Uriel, let us just watch what he intends to do, is he going to us it for the bad of the world or for the better of the world that is his choice.” The man says with a smile.
