The Day Arrives

2219 Words
The day of the competition arrived and the students are excited to show off their skills to everyone. Some of the students use this as a way to find suitable partners for themselves. In the years before, students tend to have relationships after the competition as the families and of the students see a potential partner for their children. “What do you think will happen later?” Johannes ask Kris who is still lying on his bed. “I don’t know but I’m certain you will get a partner. Especially if the headmaster announces your status as a new addition to the Hall of Heroes.” Kris turns to Johannes and sees that it was not an answer that he was expecting. “That tends to happen a lot to new heroes but knowing you, you are most likely to deny them. You really had no experiences in that kind of thing not that I also have since we all that we usually do is train. We are basically experience less idiots that only knows how to fight.” He added which made Johannes even more sad. “We talk to girls right? Doesn’t talking with Flora, Xia, Jamaica, and Luna doesn’t count?” he as but Kris’ face stiffen. “Yeah that probably counts as experience but why did you count Luna in? Almost everyone probably fear talking to her. You are quite brave Johannes, I give you that.” Kris said leaving Johannes on the losing side. “Lets stop talking about useless things. Today is the big day, we can’t just let everyone wait. We are both on different teams to you guys better watch out.” Kris jumps off his bed and takes everything he needs for a bath and wrapped his towel around his neck. “What are you waiting for? Flora will be furious. You know far too well how she holds up in competitions. “ Kris walks out of the room without waiting for Johannes who immediately follows him. On the way to the bath, they saw that other students have already changed on their fancy clothes and dresses while they on the other hand are still in their pajamas. “Look at them. They are still on their pajamas. Talk about pathetic.” Some of the students talk bad about them but the duo ignored them completely. Half an hour later and the two heard the bell rung in the entire academy, telling them that the competition is about to start. The two left the bathhouse in a hurry that they still have bubbles resting on their hair. TAP! TAP! TAP! TAP! TAP! TAP! TAP! TAP! “Where the heck are those two? Their room is locked and all. Do you think they drowned?” Flora ask as she taps her shoes on the floor impatiently. “Calm down Flora, its not like they are going to be on the first match or anything? And what’s with that assumption? That’s a stupid way to die.” James reminded her but Flora just growl at him like a wild animal. “Maybe they got too excited that they locked themselves in the bathhouse “ Ophir suggested something ridiculous and the others did not even bother telling him off. When all of the sudden they saw the two running in the hallway and Kris slipped on the floor because of his wet feet. THUD! “Damn, I- it hurts.” Kris stands up while caressing his face that fell flat on the floor. Flora and the others are staring at him blankly while Johannes smiles only to realize that Kris had actually slipped. “I thought he was right behind me.” He mutters in surprise as he stands beside the others. “What were you both doing?” Flora ask and just by looking at how they both run, they can already surmise that the two of them are racing but they need a more clearer explanation. “He said that I’d get to be the one to pick the food that we are going to eat after the competition.” They finally understood why Johannes won but they could not process why Kris lost. The thought of him losing to someone has already left their minds a long time ago after the things that he taught them in the past few months. “Wow, I did not expect for you to slip like that.” Flora greets Kris whose face is a bit red because of falling face down but then his complexion returns to normal due to the system involuntarily using minor healing spell on his body without him asking. “I did not expect to slip like that. I wouldn’t have slipped if I am not following the rules. I guess Johannes won.” James finds it quite odd that Kris lost which made him think that he might have ulterior motives. [Knowing Kris, he must have planned something in mind ahead of time. There is no way that he would lose a simple race is it?] He though to himself. “That’s enough, both of you change in your clothes. Jhonas and the others have already saved us a seat, and if you take too long then those seats will be taken by someone else so be fast.” Flora said as the two enter their room to change. A brief moment later and Richard arrived, asking if the two are ready. “They are still changing.” Ophir said. “Our teacher picked Kris as our representative of our class so he is sort of needed right away.” Richard said softly. The disappointment on their faces is indescribable and doubts if they should tell him that they only got inside a few seconds ago. Kris got out of the room first with his casual clothes on that made almost everyone petrified. “What in the world are you dressed in?!” Flora exclaimed when she detects no style in his clothes. “What? This is my casual clothes. And we are not there for a party. We are going to be fighting and so with that in mind, I picked a more suitable cloth for fighting, something that will make me move comfortably.” Everyone beside Flora thought so as well. It turns out the others have the same thing under their fancy clothes and ready to take off once the match starts. “You mean I’m the only one with these clothes on?” she asked but Kris tells her that she is not alone and that they have actually seen other students dressed in expensive clothes earlier when they were on their way to the bathhouse. PAT! PAT! PAT! PAT! PAT! PAT! “I know its tragic, Flora. I feel you. But its nothing to be mad about.” Kris comforts her while patting her back and then turns to Richard. “I heard you saying that I am our class representative. Don’t they line up and make some pledges or something?” Richard nod his head a Kris sighs disappointingly. “Looks like he really wants my life to be in ruin. I hate that guy.” Kris says as he drags away Richard along with him on his way to the arena. “We’ll be going first.” Notice: Several subjects with high level mana is detected. No hostile subjects detected. [Yeah, just as I thought. Some of the heroes as well as the organization’s current pillars are gathered to watch the talents that they might snatch away from the headmaster’s hands. I will get to see your faces soon. I have not forgotten you faces, they are still engraved in my head like a note. I swear I will crush the talents that you have manage to get your hands on.] Kris thinks to himself as his blood starts to boil. Notice: User’s hostility level increased drastically, initiating relaxing sequence. Relaxing sequence successful. [Thanks system, I might have done something unnecessary.] Kris says to himself but then he remembers that he is still with Richard. “Kris? Is something wrong? You look as if you are a beast that’s ready to maul your prey in any moment. Do you really hate being the representative so much?” Richard said with a shaky tone that made Kris felt bad for influencing him with his negative emotions. “Haha! I just remember something from the past few months, you know. The people that looked down on us? I want to show them what we are made of. I just can’t wait to see the helplessness expressions on their faces and make them swallow their criticism.” Kris said with a smile. [Sorry for lying Richard but I guess that is a good turn so that you get heated up before the matches. That way you will start up with a loud bang.] Kris’ words filled Richard with flames of fury that will fuel his spells later on in the matches. They met Inrad and the other teachers who were waiting for his arrival to complete the representatives and say the pledges and vows before the matches started. Kris saw New faces that he is seeing for the first time and some familiar ones. Kresha Lava as the representative of Flora’s class, Edmond Grail as representative of his class and a face that Kris have not seen in a long time, the younger version of his lover in the past, Acacia Scifer as the representative of a normal class. Kris stares at her for a long time that she even notice him staring at her. [I nearly forgot that you are also a student here. Is it because of the goals that I have set that I nearly forgot? Was I too busy?] He thought to himself as they stand in front of hundreds of people but they eyes are fixed on Kris, who is wearing his casual clothes, a spectacle that made most nobles laugh as well as students and teachers alike but some who understands his thought kept quiet. “Inrad, didn’t you tell your student to clothe himself properly? He looks like a beggar.” One of the teachers proceed to make fun of Inrad but Mephisto’s voice silence them. “What is wrong in wearing those clothes? He is just taking in kind that he is about to go to matches against other mages his age. That is quite normal for a mage to wear the clothes he is comfortable with in fighting.” He said with the same bored tone. “Look at that guy, he looks lost.” Some of the representatives says with a chuckle. “Even this guy looks decent than him.” Edmond gnash his teeth in anger when he was compared to Kris and lashes out at them. “You got a death wish punk? You can run your mouth when you win a match. Noble trash.” Edmond days without regard to the person he is speaking with, the usual Edmond stuff. The noble actually got angry and wants to get back at him but his teacher prevents him from making a scene as the headmaster walks in the center of the arena to greet everyone. “Good day to you all. We, the teachers and everyone inside the academy is grateful to you all for attending our annual competition. As usual, the winning class of this competition will be rewarded for their hard work for the entire year. But before we start the competition, I would like to welcome our highly esteemed guests.” The guests that the headmaster is talking about occupied the ten seats resting at the top of the arena where they can get a perfect look at what's happening inside the arena. “These esteemed guest came from the Hall of Heroes, in short, they are the current heroes of the Hall. They are here to watch the talents that have been cultivated by the academy.” The headmaster says as few more figures that he sees as enemies appear before his eyes, the pillars of the organization. [Looks like they really are here to see the talents that the academy has. Too bad I will not let your roots reach deep within the academy, you vile monsters.] The headmaster says to himself as he recognize the person, and smiles at him. Giving him the greeting that he did not want to get. Kris turns his head as the headmaster continues his speech when he sees from the corner of his eyes, the face that he loathe the most. The very person that made a mess in his past life, the very talent that the academy had wasted and turn to making evil deeds under the hands and influence of the organization, Rubic Flames. The one responsible for the fall of the academy after recruiting most of the academy’s talents in his past life that signaled its downfall. “There you are you rotten bastard, I will uproot your hold in this academy. And I will trample on your body soon. You better remember that.” He mutters to himself when he remembers the time when that very person he curse took the life of his lover.
