A Day Before The Competition

The group continue to train in the forest and the employee decided to watch them. [Hmm, they look pretty good. Hoh~ is that a dark hole I see? That’s a pretty good spell.] He said to himself when he saw Jamaica unleash her family’s lower version of their f*******n spell. “You seem to be enjoying watching them?” the headmaster mutters behind him and scares the employee who jolted back. “Please don’t do that headmaster. You know quite well that I don’t cope up with surprises and scares.” He said as the headmaster chuckles. “The prince told me about them, its rare for royalty to have liking to some aspiring students but I guess the future ruler of the kingdom is quite different from the current one.” He said and the headmaster immediately agrees. “He seem to be quite different from his father. We had that talk a while ago and I still can’t believe that he has an eye for talent.” The headmaster smiles and the employee sees it which  made him smile as well. “Looks like there are more to these students that meets the eye. Let me in it headmaster.” The headmaster looks at him first and with a little puppy eyes. He resigned and tells the employee about what he found out. “Mephisto and you are the only ones who knows this. Those kids somehow learned some kind of f*******n spell and not just any ordinary spell. It shines similarly like of those beings’ spells. It was a long time when I got to witness their spells but just looking at their light, I can definitely tell that it belongs to them.” The employee caress his chin in both interest and confusion just as the headmaster and Mephisto did when they first realize this. “That needs intensive investigation headmaster. If those beings started to intervene with the beings of this world then that means the future of this world is not that bright. It had happened in the past, for it to happen yet again only means one thing.” The headmaster also fears the same thing and muttered. “A great catastrophe is befalling, and a great evil is among the beings of this world.” The atmosphere among the two darkens as they realize the event that is befalling them in the future. “Last time, the world was not able to prevent war from happening due to the lack of heroes but this time is different. They have an aspiring hero among them, a new awakener that will join us in the future in the Hall of Heroes.” The employee strains his eyes when he hears this. “What do you mean headmaster? There is an awakened among them?” the headmaster confidently smiles and point out the one. “He goes by the name Johannes, and I’m sure you have already seen him.” The book that the employee used to write the names of the students opened and reveals Johannes’ name. “Looks like it will turn out differently. They are fully of potential after all. The heroes will not be the only ones to carry the burden this time.” He said with a smile and then the headmaster leaves after patting the employee’s back. “I’ll head off first.” The employee continues to observe the students as they spar until they got tired and fall to the ground. The employee sees that they are going to head out a few moments later after they take a quick break and so he returns to his counter and wait for them. The day ended with the group exhausted and decided to take the next day as a break to prepare their bodies  for the competition the next two days. “Lets look at the events that will determine the winner for the competition.” James said as they met in the cafeteria. “It should be posted in the bulletin board right now.” Flora said while they eat their lunch. “Do you guys have plans after this? Jhonas and I plan to observe other students while they train to get a grasp of their strength.” Luna says and the boys immediately thought of what she said in the past and immediately decided without any slight hesitation. “We’ll go.” The boys said in unison. “Guess we’ll have to tag along as well.” Flora says with a hopeless expression. They immediately head to the bulletin board and saw the events. “First is individual match and the second one is class match.” James reads the events in the competition. “Well, it looks like the first event is relatively easy but the last one is quite hard. What kind of class  match are they going to hold? “ none of them has an idea and so they moved on to the next destination, the training area that they used a couple of months ago is not brimming with students that are sparring with each other. The other students saw that Kris and his lower class classmates are with him and decided to show off a bit with their spells, trying to show them the difference in their levels but the group did not get bothered by it which infuriates the higher classes. “Lets just sit here are watch. Let them flaunt their spells. Isn’t that great? We get to see their trump cards so easily.” Kris says deviously and sat on the platform. The others agrees to his remark but his devious smile makes them wonder if its alright fort hem to leave him be.  A teacher that oversee the students saw that they have entered the training area. “Do you want to have a match against other students?” the teacher ask them and the students were excited but the group had already decided to take the entire day for rest so they declined. “That’s a shame, some of the students here actually want to have match with you.” The teacher said with a disheartened tone. Kris saw this as a way to measure their strength. [What a ridiculous thing to say. You just want your students to see how strong we are.] Kris says to himself and to his surprise someone’s hand is raised. [Who in the? -! Well, that’s expected.] Kris saw Johannes is the one that accepts the teachers invitation. “I don’t know if I can appease their curiosity but I will try my best.” Johannes said as he handed Ophir his drink. “Go easy on them Johannes, you might kill your opponent.” Ophir reminded. [What did he say? Kill his opponent? That must be a joke right? No- if Ophir days it himself as the strongest mage then it bears truth?] The teacher thought to himself when he hear Ophir’s warning. “You will be facing against-“ “Let me face him teacher, he advanced to the high class but I still don’t know how strong he really is. We can’t just have anyone join our class without properly evaluating them right?” a student volunteers after interrupting the teacher.  “Is that okay with you?” the teacher ask and Johannes nod his head. “I’m fine with anyone. There is no need to worry about me.” Johannes responded with little to no care who he is going to fight. His few words made the student angry a little and curse him secretly. [Look at this cocky peasant. Does he really think he can take on anyone? If you’re that cocky then it is only natural for the senior to discipline  their junior right?] The student grins as he can already picture out Johannes’ begging for forgiveness. “You can start however you like.” The teacher said as the two stands inside the circle. “I’ll start with a weaker spell so that you can’t say I’m bullying you okay?~” his senior then hold out his arms and chats his spell when he falls to the ground all of the sudden. THUD! “What in the world- happened?” the teacher mutters as the student moves his head to face Johannes. “I was just trying to have a match but your cocky face irritated me. That’s why I have to burn your mana just as you are about to flaunt your strength. How about that senior? You think you can take me on seriously?” Johannes says with a cold tone. “If that’s all you can offer then let’s just end this. Just remember that we are here to observe, you guys want to have a go with one of us so use this as an example.” Johannes says as he walks away and returns to his seat. The students that are sparring with each other halted when they saw Johannes defeat a fellow high class student without doing anything. “What just happened?” one of thestudents muttered. Mathos and his friend were there and just happened to witness the spectacle and made his mood foul. [Mana burn, for him to actually do something like that without doing any problem. Looks like I will have to look out for another person in the competition.] He says to himself when he saw Edmond walking inside the training area. “Johannes, I told you to do mana burn properly. The crude and strange way that your mana move is quite disappointing. A slight error would have crippled him.” Ophir says to Johannes and hands him his drink. “I was thinking about it all the time. There is no way I will have a slight error.” Johannes says with a pissed tone. “Hahaha! I’m just saying but it looks like you already understand the fundamentals of mana burn. That’s great of you.” Ophir pat his shoulder endlessly as the teacher had the other students carry him to the infirmary. “Tsk! Losers. Why are losers in the higher class when they are just brought there by their family’ reputation?” Edmond mutters when the students going to the infirmary past by him and his followers. Edmond says and does whatever he wants and quickly become the public’s enemy by doing so but some of the students actually admire his courage for saying everything he wants especially towards the higher nobles. “You fight me.” He asks the toughest looking person among the students. “You’ve been getting on our nerves, let’s close that mouth of yours.” The student says who immediately unleash his spell only to be denied by Edmond’s spell. “What the hell happened to my Whirlpool?” Edmond sneers at him and did not bother explaining what he had done. “That just means you are weak. Higher nobles, they can kiss my a*s for all I care. So much for being in a higher class.” He says when he lands a spell and utterly immobilize his opponent. TAK! TAK! TAK! “Look here Mr. High class student. Being in a high class doesn’t mean you are strong. It is not the basis of strength, if this is an actual fight then you have long died.” Edmond says then punching the student in the guts with all his strength. “That is all that you amount to. Trash.” The spell that immobilize the student crumbles as he slams and hit himself hard on the floor. Edmond turns to the other students and sees that they turn their gaze away after meeting his eyes. “Bunch of pussies.” He then saw Kris smiling at him but he just sneered at Kris and walk towards them. “If we ever face each other in the competition. You will not be able to refuse, don’t even bother getting defeated by these worms because if you do, I will beat you up pretty good.” Kris could not help but chuckle when he heard Edmond but the latter did not bother and argue with him knowing that Kris will just use whatever means to win. “Nah- I want fight you in the competition. You look better after what Mr. Mephisto showed you. A power up perhaps?” Edmond hopelessly stares at him and shakes his head. “Yeah right. Says the one that is bursting with strength, out of everyone here. You are the one I fear the most. You give me the feeling of helplessness. And my guts tells me that you have more secrets than when we meet for the first time.” Kris got surprised when Edmond somehow manage to sense his strength that he has been hiding carefully. [Don’t tell me, is he a fragmented awakener?] Kris says to himself and the system confirms it. Answer: Subject Edmond is an fragmented awakener. Just like the name suggest, his awakened ability to sense someone’s strength is incomplete. Fragmented awakeners have the same ability like normal awakeners but their abilities are incomplete and undeveloped. They can access their ability but not in a complete state like the others you have encountered. Kris smiles as he found another gem. “Well just see that during the competition.” Kris said and Edmond leaves with a smile on his face. Mephisto sees that the two are talking and smiles. “Rivalry is a good thing. Especially between two interesting individuals.” He mutters to himself and disappear  in thin air.
