Potential Talents

The horror of how their classmate was easily defeated by the student from another class. “Looks like your students are quite inexperienced in fighting. To tell you the truth. That student that won is one of the weakest in my students. That’s a shame, I did not expect yours to be even weaker.” The teacher said with a smirk. Inrad wants to lash out on him but Mephisto’s presence hinders him from doing anything. “That’s fine. I did not expect much from Inrad’s students but there are few that has some potential. So don’t get your hopes up.” Mephisto says to the teacher who is taunting Inrad. “If Mephisto says so then I should look forward to it.” He then left and congratulated his student. “That was wise of you to let him say those things without taunting him back. The role of a teacher is to have faith in his students. Like I said in the past, the students’ performance reflect from their example and this case, you.” Mephisto turns to him with the same bored eyes and added. “Its not a bad thing if they face a strong opponent. It will help them grow. Always bear that in mind.” The second match started and another student lost to the student of the cocky teacher easily. Among the three lower classes, Inrad’s class is at the bottom of the two other classes in terms of winning and capability of their students. “This doesn’t look good.” Kris says to himself as he watches his classmates get defeated easily by the students from the other classes. “That’s already the fourth student and none of them showed any talent at all. Why are they still in the academy at all?” the cocky teacher says when another student of Inrad is carried to the infirmary. [That guy, is really enjoying this. I really want to have a go with his students but that’s just bullying the weak. None of his students show any brilliant ability so far. I doubt they even have. Its just my classmates are weak to the point that they are a pushover. It is just as it is in my previous life. Should I change them? Should I help them get strong? Will that do anything good?] Kris turns to look at his remaining classmates that have yet to fight, their faces covered in fear and dread. [They must be thinking that they are losing the advancement. But there are some of them that do not look like they are bothered by the other class’ abilities. Are they confident they can win a match? No, their presence says it all. They are different from the others.] While Kris is thinking about some things, Xia stands beside him and ask. “Do you think I can take a win for our class? There are other two that I am confident that can fetch a win but I don’t think I’m confident enough in my abilities.” Xia ask with a worried tone but Kris reassures her. “As long as you pour everything that you can that is more than enough. Winning the match doesn’t guarantees an advancement. You’ve seen that with my match against Mathos. But then again, losing is not a bad thing. You can train yourself to be even more strong before you ascend to another class. To me that is a good thing, concealing your abilities from everyone else is also a mage’s duty.” Kris says as he turns to his classmates that are recovering from their injuries. “If you are matched against one of them. Are you confident that you can win?” Kris turns to Xia after hearing her ridiculous question. “Is that even a question? Of course I can win. But I will deliberately let myself be defeated. When you ascend to the next class, you will be far behind everyone in that class. That’s why there is no need to hurry in advancing. There is also the annual competition, isn’t it chilling if the lower classes like ours fetch the medals? That’s a good idea don’t you think? “ Kris says with a huge smile on his face. Xia is surprised that Kris is already aiming for the annual competition and is shocked by the enthusiasm showing on his face. “The annual competition?” She mutters slowly. “Yes, I have decided. Our classmates that are looked down on. I will make them strong enough to blow those who looked down on them.” With Kris’ words, Xia felt in her heart that she also wants to see her classmates get stronger. “So if I lose, you’ll make me stronger as well?” Kris dramatically turns to her out of disappointment. “What are you talking about? You have far good connection for someone stringer than me to teach you. Do I even qualify to teach Libo Huarang’s niece? No, I don’t feel qualified at all.” Xia then pouts and shakes him violently. “That’s not fair! You will teach them but not me? Is that favoritism I hear?!” “Wait- stop- my head hurts. You-re misunderstanding something. That’s not what I meant!”   “What do you mean I misunderstood something?” she ask after letting go of his shoulders. “Geez, you are quite a handful. You are already strong ad you are. Do you need to be more strong than you currently are? Are you planning a revolution or something?” “I was dumb enough to think that you are going to say something pleasant but what are you saying I’d start a revolution?! I don’t even have the ability to defend myself against some teacher and you expect me to start a revolution with my current strength? Are you courting death?!”  Xia returns to shaking him violently. Unbeknownst to them, the match with another one of their classmates have started. “What overwhelming strength. Is there a student like that from his class?” the cocky teacher says to himself when Inrad’s student stomps one of his. [Dioran is one of my strong students but to think that he is defeated so easily. Is that his trump card?]  he thinks to himself as Inrad’s student steps on his opponent’s face. “What? That was it? I thought the first student was the weakest but I think their teacher is exaggerating. What a let down.” He sat on his opponent’s chest and ask for another match. “This guy is not even good enough for warm up. I want another match.” He said with a calm tone but the students from the cocky teacher are enraged of his imprudent action. “I don’t think that’s possible. So get off my student.” The student just tilt his head in confusion. “Why not? If the student says that he wants to fight some more, why don’t give it to him. You have more students that are still available right?” Mephisto says with the same boring tone. “Mr. Mephisto, I don’t think there is a rule like that during a match for advancement.” The teacher insisted. “There is none. But as the overseer of the advancement. The headmaster has given me the authority to do what I want. If he wants to show us how strong he really is then why not give it to him?” the cocky teacher could not go against his word and can only gnash his teeth in anger. [This bastard is deliberately doing this to have my students beaten up. Fortunately, our strongest students are on the back line. That kid will definitely get owned.] “You heard Mr. Mephisto right? Now come at me.” The student says while still sitting on his previous opponent’s chest which greatly angers the teacher. “Get off my student now. Your next opponent is already decided.” The teacher said while trying to mask his anger but the student did not  obey his words and anger him even more. “I want to collect my medals. And this here is just on of them.” “Teacher Inrad. I think you did not teach your student to be modest and obedient at all.” The cocky teacher said but Inrad only looks at him and then turns to the arena without saying a word. Root like veins appear on the cocky teacher’s forehead when Inrad ignores his words. [That’s right. Just doing nothing will anger your opponents even more] Mephisto silently enjoys the simple revenge that Inrad is doing to his co worker after showing a rude attitude earlier. Another one of his students falls victim to Inrad’s student after a brief exchange. THUD! “That one is even better but still not enough.” The student says to after taking down another opponent. [So it has started huh? I did not think that he would show his nasty attitude so early.] Kris says to himself while Xia continues to shake him violently, then the shaking slowly stops when Xia realize that it is their classmate that is wreaking havoc in the arena. “Isn’t that Jhonas? Was he that strong from the start?” Xia wondered. [That is the same thing that I was wondering about when I saw him. But the I remembered his face after looking at his face carefully, I realize that he is quite the figure in my past life. He is called the Fury of the West, Jhonas Zeal. His attitude is what gave him the title. To think that he is my classmate, no wonder he showed me hospitality when I went to the west where he is ruling.] Kris smiles after his third victim lays on the floor. [The only thing pleasant about him is the innocent smile that he always wear but if taunted enough, he can take down a student from a higher class after an intense fight. As he is now, he is far stronger that everyone from the other lower classes. I wonder why he is keeping his strength a secret.] “Again, that was it? The second one is slightly more interesting. But this guy is not interesting at all. I thought they were strong because they look strong and the aura they release is quite different from an average student, I’m disappointed.” The student said while the cocky teacher on the other hand is about to flip out in anger. “That is enough Mr. Zeal. We have fulfilled your wish. That should be more than enough right?” the student then stands up from the three bodies and step on them while on his way to take his seat. “Yeah, that’s more than enough. I don’t want to fight anymore. I’m only going to disappoint myself.”  He said with a disgusted tone. “What? That’s it? He can still fight right?” the cocky teacher ask but Mephisto shakes his head. [I cant let it end up like this. He only has eight no, seven students excluding that student named Kris, I accept this.] He thinks to himself when another student from Inrad’s class steps in. “If you don’t want that bastard to be beaten up then prepare to have your other student to be beaten up instead.” He mutters to himself when he signals his student to show no mercy. “Go and beat her to a pulp.” Her classmates softly whispered in her ear. “Of course, after losing three in a row, I can’t just lose.” She reassures her classmates who wished her luck. After stepping inside the arena, Mephisto declares that they can start whenever they are ready. And the female student from the other class immediately wasted no time and attack. But to her surprise, her opponent is missing from her field of vision. “You are quite excited. Let me calm you down.” Inrad’s student says when she hits her opponent’s head with a kick and summons a wall to slam her opponents head on. And just like that, the match ended briefly. Almost everyone missed her movements and are still stunned by what happened. “A simple teleportation huh? That’s nice. They really are the once with potentials.” Mephisto mutters to himself.  “Jhonas is right, it really is disappointing.” She left with a bitter expression on her face and sat beside the others. [How the hell did that happen?!] The teacher thinks to himself and turns to Inrad for an explanation but he doesn’t look like he is going to explain something. “Looks like its your turn. You better hurry up and show them what you’ve got.” Kris said with a wry tone but to each and everyone’s surprise, the student from the other class calls out Kris’ name. “Kris Grindall, I challenge you to a match.” The arena felt eerily silent after an unexpected turn of event. [What the hell is wrong with this i***t?! Kris Grindall is the one student that I don’t want you all to face!] Their teacher exclaim in horror after his student’s blunder. “That’s fine right? One of your classmates’ wish is fulfilled earlier so my wish should be fine.” The student said with a determined tone. Everyone turns to Kris, awaiting his response but the student got a big fat refusal. “Why would I accept your challenge? Its not like I’ll advance if I defeat you. And to be honest I don’t see something for in it me if I accepted your challenge. So keep on dreaming.” Kris just speak what is in his heart and it shocked everybody and pity the student that challenge him
