Chapter 1- Twice As Loud, Twice As Cruel
"Harder, oh God! Yes!"
I stopped. That wasn't my voice.
"Yes Vincent! Just like that!'
I froze, standing behind the bedroom door where a stranger voice moaned my husband's name.
"Yes, give it to me!"
The voice called out again amidst the grunts and creaking of the bed. I paused then, the familiarity of the voice dawning on me. Flinging the door open, I burst into the room, fury boiling in me.
"What the hell is going on here!?" I shrieked, "Vincent? Alice! You?"
My voice broke as I took in the scene before me. My husband lay on top of someone I'd called a friend, both naked and dripping with sweat, the sheets thrown carelessly on the floor.
Vincent stood as Alice grabbed the sheets in an attempt to cover herself, none showing any signs of panic or shame from being caught.
"Vincent? H-how co–"
"Oh please, give me a break," he cut in, his tone irritated, like he was annoyed I'd interrupted them.
"What?" I asked
"Don't try to act like you didn't see this coming, so let's just get it over with. At least I don't have to keep putting up this silly facade."
"Are you insane?" I yelled. "I just caught you sleeping with someone I called my friend, and this is what you have to say? Do you not have any shame?"
He burst into laughter, as Alice joined in, both laughing like I'd just told the funniest joke on earth.
"Shame? That should be the least of your worries right now, Olivia." Alice sneered.
"You," I retorted, turning to her. "Was this your plan all along? To slowly creep into my husband's bed like a snake?"
"What can I say? If you were half the woman I am, then maybe he wouldn't have had any need to find someone else to satisfy him like I do."
"You ungrateful b***h! After everything I've done for you, this is how you repay me?" I shouted, my voice laced with hurt.
She stood, letting the sheets fall to the floor, her perfectly sculpted body gleaming with pride and sweat, as she stepped infront of me.
"Olivia, darling, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you're nothing but a pathetic, good for nothing b***h who's about to be divorced and broke!" She said as she broke into laughter again, the sound piercing my soul as if darts were being hurled at me.
I turned, confused as I looked Vincent, his expression amused as he watched the two of us.
"What is she talking about?" I asked calmly, trying to maintain my composure.
"Look–"
"What the hell is she talking about, Vincent?" I shouted loudly, my body shaking.
He reached into the drawer, brought out some papers and files and tossed them at me.
"There's no need to shout, Liv. Let's just say I took out some loans in your name to invest in some businesses, and you're going to have to pay them back because, here–"
He handed me a file, divorce papers, still looking unfazed like he was having some random conversation with a stranger.
"I filed for divorce, Olivia. I'm done with this sham of a marriage, and I'm moving on to better things."
He smiled and pulled Alice closer, kissing her softly, both giggling.
My head was spinning. I scanned through the papers, taking in all the information, the tremor in my hands making the papers unsteady.
"No, this isn't happening. You did what?"
"You heard me, Olivia."
"A sham of a marriage? I loved you, Vincent," a tear rolled down my cheek, my heart ripped to pieces.
I stepped infront of him, banging my hand against his chest.
"How could you do this to me? I loved you! I gave you my all! I was with you right from when you had nothing to this point, I helped you get to this level!"
Alice stepped forward, holding my hand up against her face, her stance menacing. "Don't touch him, Liv. He's not your man anymore, he's mine!"
WHAM!
My palm landed right across her cheek, the force stinging my hand. She stumbled backward, falling into the bed.
"You insolent–"
Before I could complete my statement, Vincent stepped forward and shoved me violently onto the floor, his face twisted in fury.
"Are you crazy?" he barked, turning around around to check on Alice before looking back at me.
"Is this your plan? Since you're going out with nothing, you want to kill my unborn child?"
My mouth fell open, my eyes flicking between them.
"U-unborn child," I stammered. "What do you mean?"
"Yes, you heard me! Alice is carrying my baby, something you clearly failed to do after three long years!"
My chest thudded, the tears filling my eyes.
"How could you say that to me, Vincent? You know..." my voice broke.
No, I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction of seeing me weak and destroyed. I stood gently, watching Vincent scurry to Alice as he lifted her up.
"You okay baby?" He asked, caressing her belly gently.
"I'm fine," Alice nodded, glaring at me with eyes laced with mischief and satisfaction.
Vincent turned to me. "Now you listen to me, you will sign those papers, pack your things and get the hell out of my house, understand?"
I paused, then in the split of a second, I picked the divorce papers, ripping it from top to bottom.
"Are you out of your mind?" He barked.
"You don't get to divorce me, Vincent. Not on your terms, like I'm some waste you discard when you're done with it."
"I don't–"
"Shut the hell up!" I barked, cutting him off. "I'm divorcing you on my terms, I'll go to court and file the papers, and you better bring your miserable self to sign them."
I tore up the rest of the papers, flinging the pieces of a newly acquired debt of over a million dollars at him.
"You two deserve each other and I hope it was worth it. I gave you everything. And now? I'll take it all back– twice as loud, twice as cruel."
