Travis (Ch. 10)

Jostled, I howl in agony. My body feels broken. My wolf whimpers in pain. I try to shift but it causes my head to spin. I'm starting to worry that I'll be stuck in this form. My body is being carried away. I feel the shift from cold to warm. Something lays me gentle on the ground. My breathing stunts, taking a labored breath, I pass out. A hand brushes through my fur. I whimper, hurting myself as I try to move closer to this gentle touch. "Shhh, it's going to be okay. You're save now," a sultry voice whispers to me. I feel myself being lifted again. My wolf and I try to hold back our howl as were jostled a bit. "I'm sorry," the voice says, "You'll be better soon. Just hang on to life a bit longer." My body feels like its floating. Water swishes around me, the temperature increases. Bright light flashes across my eyelids. I try cracking my eyes open, but they are too heavy. Intense heat courses through my body, everything feels like it's knitting together. There's so much pain, I don't think I can hold on to life much longer. Humming filters through the haze, lulling my mind to rest. I don't know how long I'm in this restful state for but most of the pain eases. The internal bleeding, I had slowed to a stop. My soul feels reconnected with my body. I think I might be able to shift back but I'm too scared to try. I think I might just rest for a bit more. Suddenly, an intense stab of pain runs through my whole body. The sound of my bones breaking and fusing together is the only sign that I have of the change. The humming increases in volume. The water heats up a couple more degrees. Then everything goes still. My body stops changing, and though my breathing is shallow it won't be my last. A gentle hand caresses my face, "You'll live and for that I am happy, but now you'll remember this place when you wake. So, I must leave and find somewhere else to hide. I don't know how I know this, but you are goddess touched and your goddess will know I saved you. Please don't try to find me." The hand leaves my face as I'm carried away. I will my eyes to open and what I see is pure beauty. Her white dressed drenched in my blood. Her hair a wild halo around her, but her eyes. The sadness and sorrow that spill from them has both my wolf and I promising to protect her always. Some tingles slide through me as I'm carried out of the clearing. My mind becomes foggy, and I black out.
