22-year-old Bella was never ordinary. Her body was covered in unnatural marks, her voice can both kill or heal, and she can see through the human disguises of demons. Her adoptive mother always told her to stay away from demons, but one day, Bella was saved by a demon with a hypnotic voice. What will happen when the two form a bond so deep it defies the Heaven and angers the God of the Underworld, Yeomna?

Prologue
A little girl is sitting in front of her adoptive mother, Celeste, gazing at the grave stone front of them. It was a sunny day with a gentle breeze, making the trees dance. The grass was a beautiful dark green and surrounded the grave stone and the bouquet of daisies sitting on it. The little girl had long black hair that Celeste was braiding, her brown eyes shimmered in the sunlight, and her lightly tanned skin was smooth and fair. She wore a white long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans and was barefoot. Celeste had loose black that tumbled past her shoulders with a grey streak. Her dark, almost black eyes were soft yet stern, and she had fair white skin. She wore a white short-sleeved shirt, grey cargo short, and was barefoot as well. "Celeste?" "Yes, Bella?" "Demons have marks, right?" "Yes, why?" "Do they look like this?" Bella lifted her sleeve, revealing a small jagged purple mark on her forearm. Celeste's eyes widened in horror as she yanked Bella's sleeve down. "Cover them. Don't show them to anyone." "Why not?" "Because demons are evil, but don't worry. You're not one of them. You're a descendant of a seonnyeo, just like me, and like your mother. That's why we have beautiful voices-- to heal, not hurt." "But if Mommy fell in love with Daddy, then maybe some demons are good?" Celeste sighed. "It's complicated." "Why?" "It just is. Besides, demons are our enemies-- enemies that need to be destroyed." Bella touched her arm as sadness washed over her. "What am I then?" Celeste softened. "You're my daughter, and I love you." Bella nodded, though she didn't feel like the phrase meant nothing now. If Celeste hated demons, and she's half-demon, did she really love her? Or was it just something Celeste said because her mom was her best friend? Whatever the reason, Bella felt hollow. "Come on," Celeste said. "Let's head inside." Bella nodded again, and they got up and went into their little wooden cottage, unaware that a figure was watching them.
