Chapter 3

I shook as I sat on the bed, my knees pulled up to my chest. I was wearing the fabric everyone kept calling a dress, and I was frozen. I knew if I got under the covers and my brother found out, I would be punished. After all, what was the point of wearing a revealing dress if I covered myself in a blanket? Still, I had hoped he would have already come back to his room. Maybe, when he did, he would send me away and this whole ordeal could be over. Maybe he would get mad at my brother for sending anyone to his room at all, and they wouldn’t think about trying this again. Or, maybe, they would blame it on me and I would find myself chained in the dungeon without food for a week while I learned my lesson. My head still hurt from both times I had hit it that day, and I wished more than anything I could just lay down and go to sleep. But, here I was, in a bed I should be enjoying, seeing as how it was so much more comfortable than my own, dreading what was going to happen when that door opened. When I was confronted by the most feared Alpha in the world. Another shiver wracked my body. I could feel my heart racing in my chest, and my breathing was anything but even. I knew I needed to calm down, that this wasn’t good for me, but my mind was spinning and my body ached, and I knew this was the last day I would get to call my body my own. The very last thing that was mine, I was losing it. A tear slid from my eye, and I wiped it away before it left any evidence of it’s existence. No one wanted to watch a girl cry while they were looking at her body. I didn’t have experience, but I was sure of that. Footsteps sounded in the hallway, and my heart picked up the pace even more. Something hit the door, making me jump, and a muttered curse came through the heavy wood. Then the knob turned and a man stepped inside. To say that Alpha Black was handsome was an understatement. His black hair was pulled back in a low ponytail. His tunic was loose at the top, showing off the hint of his chest, and it was tucked into trousers just as black as his shirt and hair. He had strong features, and when he finally looked up at me, after stumbling into the room, I discovered dark eyes that seemed to peer straight through me. He frowned at her, tilting his head to one side, as if he was trying to figure out who I was. “I don’t think you’re supposed to be here,” he said, closing the door behind him and moving into the room. His eyes were still cutting through me, but there was something off about them. It took me a second to realize there was a glazed quality to them. Werewolves didn’t get drunk easily, and with a start, I realized he must have been given something. Probably wolfsbane. Too high of a dose, and it was lethal, but the right amount led to a high that lasted longer than anything else. Had he taken it himself? I could only hope so. If my brother had done this to him and then sent him to me. I shuddered at the thought. “I’m sorry,” I muttered, pushing myself off the bed. “I should go.” He stopped me before I could take two steps, and this time when I looked up at him, it was to see a dark hunger raging in his eyes. He stepped closer to me. “Maybe you do belong here. Wearing that, it seems you were in the exact right spot to being with.” I swallowed, my gaze darting to the door. This wasn’t right. He wasn’t in his right mind. I needed to get out of there. “You should probably sleep,” I said, my voice low. “I will leave you to that.” I tried to move around him, but his hand caught my arm and twirled me around, then his lips were on mine. Sensations darted through me that I wasn’t aware were possible from just a kiss. His fingers seemed to spark every nerve in my body as his hand ran down my barely clad side and settled on my hip. My breath hitched when his lips left mine and started kissing their way down to my neck, pausing on a spot that made my breath hitch. “Please,” I gasped. “Alpha, I don’t think…” My words cut off when the hand on my hip moved around and cupped my ass, squeezing gently. His breath was hot on my neck, sending shivers racing down my spine when he spoke again. “You presented yourself as a meal, and now you’re trying to starve me.” My breathing was ragged as he spoke, and my eyes closed when his lips landed on that same spot on my neck. What was I doing? What was the right thing to do? Stay here? Leave? Risk the wrath of my brother if he found out I didn’t do what I was told. One of his hands had found my breast, my n*****s practically visible through the fabric that clad me, and he flicked one, making it harden instantly, and my hands came up to grasp his arms as my legs went weak beneath me. He pulled back just enough to grin down at me. “That’s what I thought. You’re not going anywhere.”
