BRENNAN It wasn’t until Kiera disappeared that I realized how hard it was to catch her scent. In places where she spent a lot of time, like her tent, it was easier, but finding it out in the world? It was nearly impossible. Even the best of my trackers, Tarrin, wasn’t able to tell where she had gone. It took me at least an hour to realize she had followed the path to the lake, and by then, I was frantic. I didn’t understand the driving urge that pushed me forward. I had changed again, to run on four legs, and my paws pounded the ground as I traced the wisp of her scent that was the only thing keeping me moving forward. Asher and Tarrin were the only ones left close to me, and even they were losing ground. There was a knob of fear in my stomach that told me I needed to get there soon.
