A/N: this is a shorter chapter than what most of them will be. Thanks for reading! -CookieK *Zyaire’s P.O.V.*       “Zaydon, we need to get them to the packhouse hospital.” I told my Beta.     Zaydon nodded and went to pick up the girl, Aphrodite, as the boy kept calling her. As soon as Zaydon had her in his arms, my wolf, Blaze, took over, shoving me to the back of my mind, and snarled at Zaydon. He glanced up at me, confused, but handed Aphrodite to me. Blaze gave me back control and I took her gently, trying not to hurt her any further.     “Hey, hey. Hey! What’s your name?” Zaydon asked the boy, who was now screaming for Aphrodite, screaming at us to give her back.     The boy looked up at Zaydon and swallowed, fear written all over his face. “E… Eros B… Blakesley,” he said.     “Eros, hey. We’re taking you two to our pack hospital. We’re not going to hurt Aphrodite. Can you stand?” Zaydon asked him.     “I… I think so…” he said before trying to stand up. But he collapsed quickly and screamed in pain. “I… I forgot they… they broke my leg…” he whimpered.     “Eros, my name is Zyaire. Alpha Zyaire. We want to help. You’re safe with us. Can Zaydon, my Beta, carry you there?”     Eros hesitated and then nodded. Zaydon picked him up in one swift movement, being careful of the visibly broken leg.     We made the trek to the packhouse as quickly as possible after I ordered the warriors to secure the borders. Zayne followed behind us silently.     As soon as we reached the hospital, Dr. Viotto rushed to us, leading us to an exam room where I laid Aphrodite on the gurney. A nurse brought in another gurney that Zaydon placed Eros on. I then explained everything I had observed, and Zaydon filled in the gaps.     “Let me examine them and run tests. I’ll let you know what I find as soon as I know,” Dr. Vi told me.     Zaydon left the room, but Blaze wouldn’t let me leave the girl, so I decided to ask Eros some questions. I walked over to his bed and pulled up a chair and sat down. He looked at me confused.     “Eros, can I ask you some questions?”     He nodded but stayed silent.     “Okay, first, I want to assure you that you are safe here. I can promise you that.”     “Okay,” his voice was a whisper.     “How old are you?” I asked him.     “Um… what’s the date?”     “May 5, 2019.”     “Um… wait…!” his face became unreadable as he thought things over. His eyes slid closed briefly, before he opened them with determination on his face.     “I… I turn 16 today. My… my wolf literally just spoke to me, which means it must be 1818, my time of birth.”     I glanced at a clock before turning to him and nodding. It was indeed 6:18 P.M.     “How old is Aphrodite?”     “She… she’ll be 18 on the 10th.”     “How is she related to you?”     “She’s my sister!”     I nod. “What pack are you from?” I ask him, and his face falls and tears well in his eyes.     “We… we were from the Blue Lake pack, in Six Mile, South Carolina. But… but when our pack was attacked 10 years ago, almost everyone was killed. Including our mom and Dad.”     My heart aches for him. They were kidnapped and held hostage for 10 years.     “Alpha, I need to get some x-rays and draw some blood,” Dr. Vi told me, and I nodded to him.     “Go ahead,” I tell him, but don’t move from my seat. My eyes focus on Aphrodite. She’ll be 18 in 5 days? So, she’ll be able to find her mate then.     ‘We are her mate!’ Blaze yells at me in my head.     ‘How do you know?’ I ask him.     ‘I just know,’ he responds before putting up a block.     I groan inwardly and run my hands through my black unruly hair while Dr. Vi uses the portable x-ray machine to take images of Eros. Dr. Vi documents every bruise, every scar, every cut on Eros before leaving to view the images. A nurse comes to draw his blood.     “Eros, now that you have your wolf, your leg should heal fairly quickly. I do need to set it though, so it heals properly,” Dr. Vi says to him, and he nods.     “Go ahead,” he tells the doctor.     “It’s going to hurt, even with the pain medication I’m going to give you beforehand. The nurse, Nurse Vivianna, also started you on fluids because you are seriously dehydrated,” he says before injecting something into the IV port.     Dr. Vi waits a few minutes for the pain medication to take effect before telling Eros to grip the rails of the bed and to not be afraid to whimper or scream if he needs to. Then he moves the leg into position as Nurse Vivianna comes back in and holds the top of Eros’s right leg still.     Dr. Vi takes hold of Eros’s leg just above his knee. “Ready? On the count of three. One… two… three!” he says and yanks Eros’s leg into place.     Eros’s hands grip the bed rails tightly, his face scrunched up in pain as he whimpers and then screams in agony. But it’s over just as quickly. Eros slowly relaxes bit by bit, still whimpering softly.     Once he’s fully recovered from the pain, I continue my questions. “Do you know who kidnapped you?”     “Y… yes,” he stammered, and I wait for him to elaborate, but he doesn’t.     I sigh. “Who?”     “A… a rogue pack r… run by my m… mom’s sister.”     “Her sister? Why?”     “My m… mom was a w… witch m… mated to an A… Alpha werewolf. My a… aunt wanted him for herself. Sh… she turned to dark magic to try to destroy their mate bond.     “B… but when that didn’t work, s… she gathered a large group of rogues using her dark magic and attacked our very small pack. Some escaped, but not many. We… we were never declared rogues because our pack was never actually disbanded.     “The survivors still live together as a very small pack somewhere undisclosed, slowly rebuilding numbers. So, our pack mark never disappeared. We just smell rogue because we’ve lived among them for so long.”     I nod. “Get some sleep now, I’ll be back to check on you tomorrow.”   *FIVE DAYS LATER*       Eros was released from the hospital after two days under strict order to eat at every meal and eat small, healthy snacks in between meals. He has been staying in a guest room and training with Junior Delta River to become stronger. He has made remarkable progress in just three short days.     I’m on my way now to check on Aphrodite, who still hasn’t woken up from a coma. As soon as I open the doors to the hospital, the most enticing scent hits my nose. It smells like… mahogany, snow, and maple.     Blaze perks up in my head and begins running in circles, shouting, ‘mate!’ over and over again as I follow the scent to Aphrodite’s room. I crack the door open to find that her eyes are fluttering open. As she opens them, she winces, and her hands automatically cover her eyes.     I quickly dim the light. Aphrodite slowly uncovers her eyes and looks around before her eyes land on me. She takes a deep breath and gasps.     “Mate,” she says but her voice hoarse.     “Aphrodite…” I whisper back.     Dr. Vi, Aphrodite is awake, I mind link him. About a minute later, he enters the room with a smile on his face.     “Aphrodite, I’m going to check you over and if everything looks good, I’ll have some food and water brought to you,” he tells her.     Aphrodite nods and Dr. Vi gets to work checking her vitals, her eyes, blood levels, and more.     “I’m Alpha… I’m Zyaire. Aphrodite… I can’t begin to imagine what you’ve been through. But you’re my mate, and I want to be there for you, I want to protect you, I want to love you, and I want to cherish you. Please have faith in me and give me a chance.”     “Zyaire…” she said while looking down, like she was testing the way it felt on her tongue. “Your pack… they will all be in danger if Eros and I stay here. You will be in danger. I… I couldn’t live with myself if you got hurt because of what I am.”     “You mean, a hybrid?” I asked, and she gasped.     “Eros told you, then?” she asked, and I nodded.     After the bloodwork came back, Nurse Vivianna brought in a tray of food for Aphrodite with a pitcher of water and Eros was close behind her. Aphrodite began eating immediately and finished quickly.     “Eros! Oh, goodness, I’m so glad you’re okay! I was really worried… wait, what about your leg?”     “It healed. Wolf speed,” he grinned.     “Wait, I missed your birthday?!” she exclaimed.     “It’s okay, sis. You went through a lot, more than me. I’m just relieved you’re awake.”     “Me, too. Wait, what day is it?”     “It’s your birthday.”     “Waking up is the best present I could ask –” She stopped suddenly and the whole of her eyes turned black. She stayed like that for several minutes before her eyes turned back to their normal beautiful striking amethyst color. She shook her head and gasped, looking at Eros and then me.     “What, what did you see?” I asked, feeling her panic slightly through the small mate bond. She looked at Eros but didn’t say anything.   *Aphrodite’s P.O.V.*       “Waking up is the best present I could ask –” I stopped suddenly. My vision went black for a moment before I was somewhere else.     I was in a clearing surrounded by trees. The sun was out, but the clouds were coming in quickly. There was no sound around, no birds chirping, no frogs croaking, nothing.     I could hear a babbling sound in the distance. I heard growling and snarling all around me, wolves whimpering, snapping jaws, cracking bones, and painful howls filling the air.     My heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest. I turned around and around, my eyes following the one person I was looking for.     I took one step, and then another, and then another until I reached his motionless, lifeless form on the ground. His arms and legs were clearly broken, and his head lie at an unnatural angle, as if it had been snapped. I crouched down, checking for a pulse.     Finding none, I fell to my knees and let out an angry, pain-filled howl. I roared and stood up, my eyes hyper focusing on her.     Suddenly, everything in front of me changed, but at the same time, everything was the same.     Wolves were everywhere, fighting. I could tell which were rogues, and which were my pack. The ground was littered with rogues and a few pack members. But I could tell they were still alive, just unconscious.     Then I noticed the sparking sensation originating from my left hand. I turned my head and realized Zyaire was standing to my left, his hand intertwined with mine. I looked around me, my eyes focusing on a charcoal-colored wolf, and I somehow knew it was Eros.     I breathed a sigh of relief and glanced around until my found her. She was surround by five of our pack members. She had her hands extended and her mouth was moving slightly, as if she were chanting a spell.     I recited something in a foreign language quickly, and she froze in place. The wolves lunged at her and tore her apart while she was unable to move. The remaining rogues dropped dead on the ground.     And then… I was suddenly back in the hospital room, and I looked from Eros to Zyaire who were both staring at me, concerned. I gasped and shook my head as if to clear it of the horrible vision.     “What, what did you see?” Zyaire asked. My eyes flicked to Eros, but I said nothing.     As if sensing what I was trying to portray, Zyaire said, “Eros, maybe you should go finish training with River for today. Then you can come back and talk to your sister.”     Eros’s eyes found Zyaire’s, and he nodded once. He walked the few steps to me and hugged me before leaving the room without a word.     As soon as the door shut behind him, I let out a breath that I didn’t realize I had been holding. “I… I think it was a premonition…” I whispered.     “What was it about?”     “A fight. I don’t know when, but I was in a clearing surrounded by trees. There was running water somewhere nearby. Wolves were fighting, and we were losing. Eros… Eros was dead. Suddenly, it… it changed. You were by my side, and we were winning. Then she was killed, and every rogue dropped dead.”     “She who?”
