Friday.
Today was Friday. Today was the day I get to see my two week old brothers. I was excited - yet, I wasn't. A pit of sharks lingered at my insides, getting ready to shred against the unsettling waves. It was nippy out here, the sun barely set above the line sperating the night from day.
Leaning back against the building, I scroll through i********: searching for other people I may know. The air nipped my cheeks, leaving faint streaks of red, even on the nose.
"Hey."
"I told you you'll have your answer after the weekend." I mumble, turning away.
"I was just going to say whatever you decide, I won't stop trying."
"Yeah, ok. Well you can go now."
"At least take me co-."
"I have my own thank you." I brush him away, stepped closer towards the curve of the road. Awaiting for the gray Honda.
Tugging my coat closer to my body, I glance around only for no one to show up yet. This was ridiculous. He was already twenty-five minutes late and he expects me to wait even longer. Dialing my father's number, not a single answer - I stead I was greeted with a voicemail. Many voicemails for that matter.
It wasn't long before a black SUV with emerald green lining rolled up the drive. Who's vehicle was that? Was it Lilian's? Deedee's? Maybe Andrew's or Alexandria's? Big wheels jacked up the ride, you could tell it was a four wheel drive. There was a lady in the drivers seat...and my father. What?
My brows knitted together as my lips followed action with a pout. Who the hell was she? It hadn't even been long since her death and already he's moving on with that thing? I don't even know the girl, he hadn't even asked for my approval. Was it me? Was he ashamed of her to tell me?
So many questions followed through within my head. The car came to the stop, and I was met with two faces, staring right at me. My father rolled down the window, and waved me over. But instead, I ignored him and climbed in the back of the vehicle. I had so many questions. He was happy though...and the twins. Where are they?
"Where's Bennett and Brandon?" I ask curiously.
"Their at home with their siblings." The red-head chirped, her fair skin glowing. Her blue eyes stared at me from the review mirror, freckles fanning around her face and arms.
"I was talking to my dad."
"Brielle. Attitude please." He started as the vehicle moved forwards.
"Sorry. But why? How could you move on so fast? Where's the other vehicle? What about our place?"
"Honey slow down. This is Fanny. We started talking two days ago, and agreed to try the dating. It's been a few weeks hun." He spoke lightly, turning in his seat.
"But dad. That's not the point."
"I promise if you're uncomfortable we can change stuff while you stay with us." She offered.
"Like what? There's no point since I know last minute. No point in you changing stuff last minute either." I retorted straight to my father.
After that, the ride was silent. I stared out the window for a long while, watching the scenes past before my eyes. I wanted my mom back, everything would have been fine. And to think, I don't even know this chick or where we're going to be living at.
I then scanned the woman in the drivers seat curiously. I had wondered what she was like and was curious to if she was truly a good being like my mom. But no one, no one could replace my mom's place. Glancing over at my father, he was smiling and happy, his hand placed on her knee.
We pulled into a drive, after passing through a security gate which closed with our passing. I sat up in the seat, scanning the beautiful outside. The trees were shaped like cones, and the grass was freshly cut. A high security fence cut around corners. There was even a pony or two grazing the grass - chickens, and a milking cow.
My brow raised, was this a farm or something? Couldn't possibly be. There was no barn or anything except for a little shelter big enough for the animals who wanted to be under there. The drive wasn't long at all up the drive, soon we met with a gray two-story house. Rich in gray and crimson brown.
And to think, I thought it was going to be far away, but it was only twenty-five minutes away. Maybe less. There was a boy maybe my age or younger, with brown hair and blue eyes standing on the porch with a younger girl with red hair and green hazel looking eyes, both with fair complected skin. The girl had freckles, and the boy did not.
The twins were held by the little girl, and the male. Bennett and Brandon sure have grown since the past couple of days I've seen them. "What's their names?" I ask.
"Riley is the seventeen year old boy, and Sandra is the seven year old girl." Fanny spoke with her sweet southern accent.
"Nice."
Making my way towards the twins, I introduce myself to the two. Riley gave me a dirty look, and Sandra couldn't keep her eyes off me. I reached for one of the twins, yet he walked inside instead. "May I see little Brandon?"
The girl nodded, reaching up to hand me the sweet baby boy. Fanny placed a hand on my shoulder apologetic for her son's actions only to chase after him. My father picked up Sandra and walked me in the house, and started to show me around.
Brandon smiled, his fingers curling into the palms of his hands. His little smile, made me smile. He looked so much like mom, Bennett looked just like our father. Laughing lightly, I rock him to keep him asleep.
The house was decent, country like. I liked it. It was definitely bigger than the house we were in before and to me that was ok. After the viewing of the house, I helped put the twins to sleep after they woke up. They slept peacefully. I stayed and read to them, even sang a little song mom used to sing to me.
---------------
Everyone took a seat at the dinner table, and instead of silence and reaching to get your own food, there was talking and plates already portionally made. There was chicken; green beans, mashed potatoes, and some carrot juice on the side for a drink.
I hadn't liked the carrot juice much, but I drank what I could. I had to appreciate something, and it wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be. Everyone talked and asked about there day and I had even gotten to know a little bit about Fanny and her children as well.
Sandra was all over me, but Riley was still silent and very disrespectful towards me. I don't think he's too fond of me, but in a way I can say the same. I wasn't all too fond of him either. But there was some breaking news that got out of the bag, and all I can say is I was not prepared to face Riley everyday at school. Wouldn't mind much if it was Sandra joining me though.
After dinner was finished, Fanny went to check up on the babies, and Riley and Sandra went up and went to bed leaving me down here to clean up the table and get the dishes done. Father helped me a little bit, but he hasn't helped much.
"So, what else has changed?"
"Got a job down the road on a farm. It's nice." He smiled, rubbing my shoulders.
"I see. How much of a pay is it? Fanny's job doesn't exactly pay much from what I understand."
"Honey. Stop worrying it's ok. I'm going to go check on her, but in the meantime I love you sweetie. I hope you can give her a chance." Kissing my tempel, he stepped away and headed up the stairs.
I watched as he left, and after I finished I flipped down on the couch in the living room before grabbing my phone. And as I figured, many messages had popped up.
DoubleD
'Heyy how's it going girl?'
'ok. Found out about his new girl and her family who is sweet but her son.'
'ouch. hey imma have to get off, my brothers starting crap again. Goodnight.'
I sighed shutting my phone off, setting it aside for the night. I miss my friends already. I just wanted a normal family and all that, guess it's what I'm getting. But I'm not getting too much of it. Reaching for the remote I flip it to the Lifetime channel.
Resting my hand on a pillow, I puff my cheeks out when the twins began crying once again. Riley shouted from upstairs which boiled my blood. You can't shout with babies, it'll scare them.
Stupid boy.
