A poison maiden

2004 Words
Scarlet was back within a short time just like she had promised. Jade had composed herself and adjusted her clothes. She was now perched demurely on the couch. Her silver goblet was on the coffee table, still untouched. She looked at the door as Scarlet walked in. She was the most beautiful woman Jade had ever seen. Her straight black hair was open and fell in a cascade over her back, not a single hair out of place. Jade could not fathom how it would part naturally at her temple and fall equally over her shoulders. It caught the sunlight near her slender neck and the strands seem to carry the light upto the rise of her breasts.  She was quite a tall woman and had a slim and athletic build. Her breasts were just right, giving her a hint of a cleavage that actually accentuated her neck and made it look long and slender. Scarlet was wearing a fitted grey shirt that hugged the curves of her boobs, straining in the middle. Her black bra visible through the buttons. Jade loved Scarlet's ivory complexion. Her flawless skin had no blemishes, no scars, no spots and was so even that it looked like she was bathed in milk. The contrast of her skin, the black bra and the grey shirt made Jade melt between her legs.  Jade had known that she was a vampire the minute Scarlet had walked into the office.  She had an uncanny ability to recognise poison around her. Vampires were poisonous creatures with an alluring scent of sweet poison. Jade found that very attractive. She had dropped a message to Lucas to introduce Scarlet to her. Jade was sitting listening to the meeting going on in the adjoining conference room and when Scarlet came into the room, she had felt her. Most people in the meeting room weren’t aware that she was a Visha Kanya. Lucas, Leo and Luna Emily knew about it. They were all from Alpha lineages and were able to handle her poison for some time. But other werewolves couldn’t.  When she saw Scarlet, she recognised the woman from her dreams. She had been dreaming about Scarlet for a long time. She clearly remembered the first time she had dreamt about this woman over two hundred years back when she was in her bedroom at the fort in Kangra, at the foothills of the Himalayas. It was a cold winter morning when she had woken up from her dreams and looked out towards the snow-capped mountains.  Her eyes were blue in that dream. The sky was as blue as her eyes and the memory remained etched in Jade's mind forever.  After that, she dreamt about her frequently. Each time the dreams were full of emotions. She felt the emotions that Scarlet was going through in those dreams. She even remembered the dream in which she saw Scarlet being attacked and turned into a vampire. It had been a very stressful night for Jade but she wasn’t sure if those were intuitive dreams or were just figments of her imagination. Someday she would like to ask Scarlet about it. Right now she was not going to miss a single moment of her companionship. She had waited for this day for almost 500 years now. Scarlet walked in and rubbed her fingers on her forehead. The dirt in her nails was in stark contrast to her ivory smooth skin. What was she stressed about? Wondered Jade. “I am sorry! This was a mistake!” Scarlet blurted out and Jade felt her heart drop down to her stomach. “Excuse me? What?” Jade said angrily. She couldn’t believe her ears. This woman who was devouring her a few minutes back, was saying that their kiss was a mistake? It was unpardonable! Jade did request for the kiss but she would have been alright if Scarlet would have disagreed. She had never imagined that after such passion a person could call their moment a mistake. Scarlet looked at Jade and dropped her shoulders seeing her angry face. She hastily walked over to Jade and sat down next to her, “please honey, don’t get me wrong. You had me the minute our eyes met. I wanted the kiss as much as you did. I am grateful that you initiated it. God knows how long I would have taken to realise how much I wanted to taste you.” She ran her hand through her perfect hair. Jade’s heart picked up pace as she contemplated. But she did not lose her composure. She said in a steady voice. “Then why do you call our first kiss a mistake?” “Bloody hell!” Scarlet groaned. “It all came out wrong.” She tenderly took Jade’s face in her hands again, “our kiss was not a mistake, love. I am ready to repeat that mistake over and over again, until the end of my life, unless you want to kick me out. You have just earned yourself an obsessive lover. I am not going to leave your side unless you tell me to.” She sighed with sunken eyes. Her reddish-brown eyes did not look as lively anymore. “What is the matter? What is troubling you? Can I help?” The concern in Jade’s voice was too much for Scarlet to handle. “I am in a relationship. I cannot cheat on her.” “I see.” Jade’s voice turned cold. She hadn’t expected this either. God wasn’t kind to her. After five centuries when she finally met the woman in her dreams, she was already engaged. When she finally had her chance at companionship, it was already not meant to be. He hated her curse of loneliness. “It is not what you think,” Scarlet pleaded in frustration. “Can you give me a moment?” Jade nodded. Scarlet looked miserable. She had gotten up and was pacing the living room. Jade picked up her drink and watched her. “Stop! You are making me dizzy.” After a few minutes, Jade couldn’t take the movement anymore. “During distress, you know what helps me?” Scarlet sat on the recliner chair and lifted an eyebrow, “what? I am ready to try anything now.” “Chanting Aum”. Jade declared solemnly. Scarlet almost fell off her chair. She laughed, “I might try that someday honey. For now, your sweetness has managed to distract me.” Jade blushed, making Scarlet swear again. “Crickey! You are doing it again. If you keep catching me off guard with a blush I will start pashing you again!” Jade looked at her in confusion. “Although I have lived here for two decades, translating that would take some time.” “Oops! I forget that you are not originally from Australia. I ain’t from here either but I have lived here for over a century now.” She looked at Jade, suddenly picking up on what she said. “two decades! That’s a long time. How old are you?” “Before I tell you anything, I want to know more about you. Who is your girlfriend and what are you going to do about the cheating bit? I don’t want to be the reason for you cheating on someone.” Jade stated with determination. No matter how lonely she was, cheating was not her cup of tea. It was a different thing to kill someone under the King’s orders. Those were different times and she was a servant of the court. In this free world, she would follow her heart. She would use her curse the way she wanted, not be a slave to any monarch.   Scarlet took a deep breath. “Six years back I saved a tween from abuse and r**e. I trained her to become a strong fighter. She is a werewolf. We started seeing each other a year back. She hasn’t found her mate yet. She is an Alpha, so she has to find her mate to be able to fully realise her potential. You are quite a cobber with Lucas, so you would know that werewolves find their mates when they turn eighteen. She turns eighteen on the 21st and she had been hoping that I would be her mate. I care for her a lot, even love her but I am not in love with her. I hope I am making sense! So I made sure to invite every eligible unmated wolf to her Alpha ceremony. If everything goes well, she will find her mate. Then I will introduce you to her. This will save her from the heartbreak.” She looked at Jade’s eyes again. Jade smiled. “So all this while I have been waiting for you, dreaming about you and you have been babysitting in Myponga,” she winked and rested her palm on Scarlet’s knee. She wanted Scarlet’s distress to reduce. She wanted her to calm down. She could imagine what a burden she was carrying. “So is this the Alpha Kirra that you were speaking about at the conference room?” “Yes.” Scarlet narrowed her eyes. She was a fighter and very little escaped her scrutiny. “You were in a different room. Only a human! How did you hear that? Do you have special powers?” Jade laughed. Her sensuous soprano voice soothed Scarlet as she said, “I think you deserve to know. But it’s a long story. Do you have the patience?” “Oh, f*****g hell! I have a whole life to hear stories in your sexy voice.” Scarlet rubbed her hand on Jade’s arm. “But first I need a drink. It must be all the stress! I suddenly feel drained.” “I will get it for you.” Jade walked up and went over to the refrigerator kept in the bar area of the room and returned with blood in a silver goblet similar to hers. “You have blood here? In your fridge? Do you entertain many vampires?” “Not many, just one. My cousin, Jono.” “Are you guys kissing cousins?” “Eyeeeww! NO! I can’t think of men the same way. Sorry, I am a lesbo through and through. Are you a bi?” Jade looked at Scarlet with wide eyes, curious to know how much competition she would have to face to win over the woman of her dreams. “Nah yeh… I am a lesbo since I was born. I mean, since I understood s*x. Those were dark days honey, we couldn’t express our sexuality. I am so glad times changed.” “Me too!” Jade was enjoying their small talk. She was stalling, scared that Scarlet would not want to be with her once she knew the truth. Jade was a monster and she did not think highly of herself.  Scarlet waited for Jade to continue. As the silence stretched she prodded, “you can’t stall forever honey. I will not judge you. Hell! I am a monster myself, why will I judge a sweet soul like you.” “Don’t count your chickens until they hatch. You might not want to be with me after I am done talking.” Before Scarlet could interrupt her, she raised her palm stopping Scarlet and continued, “let me say it before I lose my courage.” She exhaled. “I am a Visha Kanya.” Scarlet looked at her dumbfounded. “You are f*****g, what?” Jade closed her eyes and said, “a poison maiden!” ****
