Chapter 7

806 Words
"Sir, should we take action against that lady?" one of the security detail asked respectfully, bowing his head. Normally, if anyone dared to treat the head of the family like that, they would find it completely impossible to survive in the entire financial district, let alone the city. Of course, they would likely also have a few broken bones to show for it. Dominic’s expression was utterly icy. Even with features striking enough to make a model envious, he exuded a bone-chilling aura. "Her affairs are entirely my concern, not yours." "Yes, sir." The guards responded respectfully and escorted Dominic back into the luxury car, leaving behind a small crowd of onlookers whispering among themselves on the sidewalk. "Is this a movie shoot?" "Who is that guy? He's terrifyingly intimidating." "He's incredibly hot, though. I'd sleep with him in a heartbeat." The luxury sedan pulled away from the curb, but the quiet chatter continued. Inside the Bentley, Dominic gently tapped his cold fingers against the leather seat beside him. "Mr. Vance, the corporate restructuring and acquisition plan for the Cole Group has been fully drafted. When would you like to initiate the hostile takeover?" Despite owning a vast international business empire, Dominic stayed constantly buried in work. Even now, on his way back to his estate, his executive assistant was firing off reports. "Kate, if you have to ask me before handling such a trivial matter, what exactly am I paying you for? Do I need to remind you why you're at Vance Corporate?" Kate immediately dropped the hesitation. The compensation package at the Vance Group was undoubtedly the highest in the country. Moreover, as long as your performance was outstanding, the firm didn't care if you never stepped foot in the main office. An ordinary analyst at Vance took home a salary equivalent to a senior executive at most other firms. Kate had no intention of losing such a lucrative position over a single oversight; losing this job would ruin her career entirely. "Mr. Vance, the young lady from the restaurant just submitted her application to Vanguard Media." Kate cleverly changed the subject. "Oh?" Dominic raised his piercing, narrow eyes slightly, a hint of dark interest playing at the corners of his mouth. Kate knew right then that she had successfully read her boss's mind. Serving a ruthless corporate king like Dominic Vance was always like walking on eggshells around an apex predator. "Inform the executives at Vanguard Media that Clara's interview process is a mere formality. Give her whatever position she applied for." A lamb walking willingly into the tiger's mouth. There was no way he wouldn't take a bite. "Right away, Mr. Vance." Consequently, Vanguard Media notified Clara to attend an interview immediately. The onboarding process moved at lightning speed, and she officially became a staff member at Vanguard. At her own firm insistence, she skipped the entry-level assistant tracks and went straight into a junior talent manager role. Yes, she had officially become Adrian Sterling's personal representative. A sudden wave of nervous excitement stirred within her. This was the future global movie star! She was going to meet him tomorrow morning. Clara left the Vanguard high-rise with a joyful, ambitious expression. Meanwhile, back in the sprawling penthouse executive suite of the Vance Corporate headquarters, Kate stood before Dominic's massive desk. "Mr. Vance, Miss Clara has officially signed on as Adrian Sterling's personal talent manager." At the same time, Kate handed a background file on Adrian to her boss. Dominic glanced at it; it was an entirely uninspired profile. The only notable thing about it was the actor's face in the attached headshot. "Tell Vanguard Media to make him their flagship priority talent for this year's slate." He didn't mind giving a massive corporate push to the artist his little captive had chosen. And once that actor reached the absolute peak of fame, he would simply pull the strings from behind the scenes. Thinking of Clara's fierce expression at the restaurant, a rare, genuine smile actually surfaced on Dominic's lips. When Kate caught sight of that smile, she froze, looking as if she had just seen a ghost. "Go take care of your own accounts. If the Cole Group takeover goes through smoothly, your year-end bonus jumps to three million. If it stalls, I'll find someone else who can close the deal." Sitting in his executive leather chair, Dominic exuded the absolute aura of an absolute monarch. Kate bowed at a sharp angle and quickly left the room. Dominic opened an encrypted folder on his phone; the digital album contained dozens of candid photographs of Clara. Many of them were shots she didn't even know existed. His cold, slender fingers gently tapped the screen right over her eyes. "What kind of surprise are you going to give me the next time we meet?"
