Chapter 6

"I think it would be better for you to have dinner with me before leaving." He had never possessed much patience. She had repeatedly shown him nothing but aversion, and he had no intention of waiting around indefinitely for her to suddenly take the initiative. "All right." Clara had no choice but to sit back down. She simply couldn't afford to provoke him right now. The two of them remained in total silence. Dominic picked up a fork and tasted a few bites of the dessert Clara had just been happily eating. He immediately decided the flavor was subpar. Born into a dynasty of extreme wealth, though the struggle for his inheritance had been brutal and blood-soaked, he had always been extraordinarily particular about his food and wardrobe. Consequently, he only took two bites before setting the fork down. He shifted his gaze back to Clara. She rested her cheek in her hand, gazing quietly out the window. The early summer sunlight streamed through the glass, making her skin appear translucent and flawlessly pale. She seemed to be thinking of something genuinely joyful; her eyes were soft, and the smile on her lips, though faint, was completely real. Watching her like this, his heart uncharacteristically skipped a beat. "You're beautiful." Dominic's voice suddenly echoed right in Clara's ear. His warm breath was actually brushing against her skin. Clara turned her head sharply, only to find that Dominic who had been sitting across the booth was now sitting right next to her, incredibly close. She was visibly startled for a fraction of a second. Then, she forced her polite, professional mask back into place. "Mr. Vance is even more handsome." Her voice remained distant and completely detached, yet it was undeniably captivating to listen to. Dominic narrowed his eyes dangerously. Was she subtly mocking his refined, sharp features by calling him handsome? Hmph. This aloof and distant wall she built only made him more eager to tear off her mask of pretense, to break her composure and hear her helpless sighs beneath him. With those thoughts racing through his mind, his body actually reacted. He gently brushed a stray lock of hair away from her neck, his cold lips moving dangerously close to hers. In a low, seductive murmur, he whispered, "Miss, you truly excite me." Clara firmly nudged him away. "Mr. Vance, mind your public image. This is an open restaurant." Damn it! In my past life, I was head over heels in love with you, but after being so thoroughly destroyed by your hands, I have absolutely nothing left for you. What right do you have to take advantage of me now?! Instead of drawing back, Dominic wrapped a powerful arm around her slender waist, pulling her flush against his chest. His low, husky voice carried a decadent allure. "Do you mean that as long as we are in private, I can stop caring about my image entirely?" "Mm..." A soft, frustrated sound escaped her as his grip tightened deliberately, his hand resting firmly against her waist. She smelled incredibly intoxicating. Dominic felt a sudden, dark urge to drag her out to his car immediately, pin her down across the leather seats, and claim her right then and there. "Dominic." Clara suddenly called his name in a sweet, unexpectedly gentle voice. Dominic felt an immediate, rare wave of satisfaction wash over him. "Hmm?" "Please stay the hell away from me from now on." She swung her designer handbag and slammed it directly into Dominic's sharply refined, handsome face. The heavy hardware on the bag left an immediate, stark bruise across his features, instantly ruining his untouchable composure. Dominic’s piercing, narrow eyes widened in sheer astonishment. This lady was utterly savage. Clara stood up and walked out of the boutique bistro, her head held high with absolute pride. Dominic reached up and touched his cheek, a trace of bright red blood staining his excessively pale fingers. His eyes narrowed to slits, and his lips curled into a dark, captivated smile. "Little captive, you will be mine." The moment he stepped out of the restaurant, a personal security detail was already standing by the car door, silently offering him a premium medical compress.
