No! I Refuse to Die!
As she cruised down the highway in her red Ferrari convertible, Valdine Stanley couldn't help but smile and hum a tune. The city's neon lights whizzed by, and the highway was bustling with cars. She accelerated, overtaking the car beside her and moving into the front. With a dinner party at a subsidiary company to attend, she knew being late wasn't an option. So, she pushed her speed to 150 miles per hour. Just then, her phone rang. She glanced at the LV bag beside her and slowed down to answer. "Hello, this is Valdine." "Sister, it's Sandy. Can you grab a cake from Millet Coffee Shop for the dinner party?" Sandy's sweet voice replied. "Sure, Sandy, I'm on my way now." Valdine was still getting used to having Sandy as her half-sister, born to her father and stepmother. She was surprised to learn they were only a year apart in age. "Why Millet Coffee Shop, though? Didn't you say their cakes weren't great last time? Why not somewhere else for such an important dinner party?" Valdine sighed, knowing her sister's decisions were never changed once made. Just then, a blue truck appeared out of nowhere, its headlights blinding. Valdine shielded her eyes, unable to look directly at it. The truck honked its horn, getting closer and closer. She instinctively grabbed the steering wheel, trying to escape. But the truck seemed to be under a spell, closing in on her car. She swerved right, but the truck followed, step by step. The distance dwindled rapidly: 50 meters, 40 meters, 30 meters, 20 meters... When the truck finally crashed into her car, Valdine's eyes snapped open, staring at the chaos in front of her. The collision was loud, and her Ferrari flew 10 meters away. "…Help… Help! Help!" she cried, crawling out of the car, covered in blood, and flagging down passing vehicles for assistance. Inside the New Greenwood Private Hospital, the smell of medicine and soda water filled the air. Outside the operating room, the words "Emergency Surgery" had been lit up since Valdine was wheeled in, leaving everyone wondering if the operation would be a success or end in tragedy. In the operating room, several doctors and nurses surrounded the operating table, where Valdine lay under the intense glare of the surgical lights. The instruments on the table - forceps, scalpels, needles, and sutures - were all stained with blood. "Doctor, the patient's heart rate is dropping! What do we do?" a young nurse exclaimed, frightened by the sound of the heart monitor. This was her first clinical experience and first time in an operating room; she was at a loss for what to do. The doctor wiped the sweat from his forehead, gazing at the heart monitor before sighing. "Prepare a cardiac stimulant and get the defibrillator ready. Whether we can bring her back from the brink of death depends on her own luck." Even the doctor felt helpless faced with Valdine's severe injuries. Without a miracle, it was unlikely she would survive, unless she had the strength to pull through. The sound of the defibrillator filled the room - "Beep, beep, beep" - as the doctor applied it to Valdine's chest. The heart monitor continued to beep, its line slowly flattening. The young nurse watched in horror as the heart rate monitor showed Valdine's heart rate weakening. "Doctor, her heart rate is still dropping!" "Increase the defibrillator to 100J," the doctor ordered, applying the device to Valdine's chest again. Her body jerked, and a loud "Thud" echoed through the room. Just then, the instruments on the table began to emit a continuous, urgent tone. The doctor glanced at Valdine's eyes, handed the defibrillator to the nurse, and shook his head. He looked at Valdine on the operating table, sighed, and picked up the medical chart. "Patient Valdine, age 20, time of death 20:35, cause of death - car accident." The white operating table and sheets were stained with blood, obscuring the fact that the patient was once a stunning beauty. The young nurse wiped away tears, walked over, and gazed at Valdine's blood-soaked form. She wept, having never imagined death could be so close. Another nurse approached, nudged her arm, and indicated she should snap out of it. The two nurses exchanged a glance, sighed, and began removing the tubes from Valdine's body. As the operating room doors swung open, the doctor and nurses emerged, and Albert Stanley rushed forward, grasping the doctor's hands tightly. His brow furrowed in anxiety, he asked, "Doctor, how's my daughter? How is she?" The doctor, noticing Albert's distress, frowned slightly and replied, "I'm sorry, the patient's injuries were too severe. We missed the optimal treatment window, and despite our best efforts, she didn't make it." The doctor's words hung in the air as he turned to leave with his team. Albert stood frozen, his eyes fixed on the operating room doors, his hands shaking as he pointed towards them, his face etched with disbelief. "Death? Failed rescue?" Overwhelmed, Albert stumbled backward, repeating the doctor's words under his breath. He lost his balance and fell to the ground, tripping over a blue metal chair. The operating room doors creaked open again, and two nurses pushed the hospital bed out, the patient covered with a white sheet stained with blood. They wheeled Valdine into a nearby hospital room. Albert wiped away tears, struggled to his feet, and made his way to the room. "Albert, dear Albert, how is she?" Sophia Norman asked, entering the room with Sandy, her face etched with concern. Albert lit a cigarette, taking a long drag before speaking. "The doctor said they missed the optimal treatment window... she didn't make it." Valdine regained consciousness, finding herself in a hospital room. She tried to sit up, but her body felt heavy, as if bound by invisible ropes. Panic set in as she realized no one was attending to her. Valdine's eyes widened in fear as she struggled to understand what was happening. Why was she like this? Albert's eyes flashed with a hint of coldness as he extinguished his cigarette. Tears streamed down his face as he turned to Sophia, his voice cracking. "The doctor said they missed the window... she's gone." Valdine's eyes locked onto Albert's, her pupils dilating in terror. She tried to speak, but her voice was barely audible, her eyes brimming with tears. "What did Dad say? What did he just say? That I'm dead?" Valdine's hands grasped the bed rails, trying to sit up, but she couldn't. Remembering Albert's words, she covered her ears and screamed, "Dad, Aunt, please get the doctor! I'm still alive! I don't want to die!" Despite her pleas, no one responded. Valdine continued to beg, "Please, help me! I'm still alive! I don't want to die! Please, save me!" The room remained silent, except for the sound of Valdine's tears falling onto her pillow. Meanwhile, Sophia gazed at Valdine's covered body and sneered, "Finally dead?" Valdine lifted her head, seeing Sophia's cold smile. She had never seen Sophia like this before and was taken aback. Sandy, seeing her mother's expression, walked over to the operating room door, checked that no one was outside, and locked the door. Sophia and Sandy exchanged a glance, their faces cold and calculating. Sophia's expression turned sinister as she gazed at Valdine's covered body. "Valdine, you're finally dead. Do you know how long I've waited for this day? You always had everything, always in the spotlight. Why did you always overshadow me?" Sandy's face twisted in anger, her veins bulging as she screamed at Valdine. Then, a cold smile spread across Sandy's face. "But now, you don't have to answer. You're dead, and I, Sandy, will take everything that was yours. You're just a thing of the past, while I'm the present!"
